Louisville, KY (AP) - The #3 West Virginia Mountaineers (7-0, 3-0 Big East) won their seventh game of the season and third of Big East Conference play this afternoon against the Louisville Cardinals (2-4, 0-2 Big East) to continue to drive towards a national championship.

The Mountaineers were without starting quarterback Eugene Smith, who will be out for the next three games with an injury, but Coley White filled in well, throwing for 216 yards and two touchdowns. White tossed a couple interceptions in the first quarter and one late in the game to end with 3 interceptions, but all-in-all, it wasn't a bad game for the redshirt-sophomore.

The Mountaineers were also without Heisman contender Noel Devine, who after two carries for three yards, was knocked out of the game. In came backup Tavon Austin, who carried the load with 107 rushing yards on 23 carries.

Despite losing two starters in the backfield, West Virginia still managed to gain 386 offensive yards and 45 points while holding Louisville to 260 yards and 28 points.

The Mountaineers will have a much tougher test next week, as the Mountaineers will #8 South Florida Bulls, who are undefeated thus far in the season.

Morgantown, WV (AP) - The #3 West Virginia Mountaineers (8-0, 4-0 Big East) didn't miss a beat without starting quarterback Eugene Smith as the Mountaineer offense racked up 515 yards of total offense in a pivotal 38-35 victory over the 12th-ranked South Florida Bulls (4-2, 1-2 Big East).

The Mountaineers ran the ball well early and it continued all game as the Mountaineers collectively ran for 270 yards. 196 of those yards came from Noel Devine, who performed great in his first game back after missing the majority of the Louisville game last week due to an injury. Devine carried the ball 27 times for 196 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Backup Tavon Austin also stepped up, carrying the ball 13 times for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Coley White still continued to struggle a bit in the turnover category, as he threw two interceptions, but otherwise it was a solid day for the sophomore quarterback, who threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon. Bradley Starks caught five of his passes for 102 yards to lead the Mountaineers in receiving.

White's job was made easier by the success of the running game early, as Devine reeled off both of his rushing touchdowns in the first nine minutes of the game, one coming from four yards out and another coming off of a 75 yard scamper down the sideline off a toss play.

After continually struggling early in the season, the WVU defense had its third straight game of holding its opponent under 400 yards of total offense as the defense held a very potent USF offensive attack to 362 yards.

West Virginia will get a breather next week against the Virginia Cavaliers of the ACC before wrapping up Big East Conference play with a guantlet of UConn, #6 Cincinnati, and #19 Pittsburgh, who have a combined record of 16-3.

Morgantown, WV (AP) - As expected, the #3 West Virginia Mountaineers (9-0, 4-0 Big East) easily rolled over the Virginia Cavaliers (3-4, 1-3 ACC) to move to 9-0 on the season, just three wins away from a potential berth in the BCS National Championship Game, something the Mountaineers came very close to in 2007 before losing 13-9 to a 4-7 Pitt team at home, a Pitt team that was a 28-point underdog going into the game.

West Virginia only outgained Virginia 415-373, but the key was four Virgnia turnovers compared to West Virginia's one.

Coley White played well, throwing for a career-high 298 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. However, Noel Devine uncharacteristically struggled, only managing 78 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Devine only rushed for 3.7 yards per carry, which considering Devine has ran for 5.9 yards per carry thus far this season, is a bit disappointing.

Whatever the case, the Mountaineers picked up an easy 31-point victory and will travel to Storrs, Connecticut for their game against UConn in one week.
