Ute's Keep Rolling on Last Second Field Goal
Asiata out up to a month

For the second week in a row Utah would travel to take on a top 15 opponent with a funky field, this time the multi-colored surface of Autzen Stadium along with the Ducks of Oregon awaited the Utes, who made easy work of Boise State last week.

With the rain pouring down the defenses would shine early, holding both offenses in relative check through the first quarter. The only score came on a long field goal by Utah's Ben Vroman, who just barely connected from 44 yards.

Oregon wouldn't stay down for long as they mounted a spectacular drive their next time out, capped by a LeGarrette Blount one yard run, which capped a 10 play 70 yard drive which spanned the balance of the first and the first few seconds of the second quarter. Utah found themselves down for the first time all season.

Utah would take a huge blow as Matt Asiata, who had 54 yards on 11 carries before being knocked out of the game with what is being called a grade 3 sprain of his right elbow. He will miss up to a month with the injury, placing the load squarely on the broad shoulders of junior Eddie Wide.

Wide would shoulder the load well, keeping the rushing attack moving, and contributing through the air as well. After Oregon scored to retake the lead with under a minute left in the first half Utah managed to take all their momentum away as Corban Louks hit wide for a 13 yard touchdown pass over the middle with no timeouts left and :05 left on the clock. The defense bit on the play going to the left, then Wide slipped out of the backfield unmanned before receiving a touch pass from Louks for the score.

Oregon would tie it up on their first possession of the second half, marching down the field before settling for a 44 yard field goal. They'd regain the lead on the next Utah possession, as Corbin Louks was hit as he threw. The ball fluttered in the air for a second before being picked off by defensive end Will Tukuafu who returned it 55 yards for the score.

Utah would stop the bleeding on their next drive, capping a masterful 8 play 52 yard drive with a three yard touchdown run by third string running back Sausan Shakerin. Wide and Shakerin would combine on the next drive to bring the ball down the field into field goal range for Vroman, who connected from 18 yards as time expired to give Utah their third straight win, and second against a top 15 opponent on the road.

Browns Overcome 17 Point Deficit to Shock Broncos
Defense comes alive in time

Coming off what could be described as an upset against the Vikings, the Browns traveled to Denver to take on the Broncos, who were without starting center Casey Wiegmann, who dislocated his knee in the Broncos on the road to the Bengals 28-24.

It looked good for Cleveland from the start, with an 8 yard run on their first play from scrimmage, but on their second Jamal Lewis was nailed by rookie Chris Baker, and was scooped up at the Browns 38 yard line. Two plays later Knowshon Moreno broke free down the right sideline for a 30 yard touchdown.

Before anyone could blink Denver had extended the lead to 17 with a long Matt Prater field goal, and a beautiful pass from Kyle Orton to to Eddie Royal, who had beat the man defense down the left sideline for 64 yards.

The Browns would finally wake up on their last possession of the first half, and Brady Quinn completed 4 of 5 passes for 58 yards to set up Jamal Lewis for a 15 yard run to get
Cleveland within 10.

Denver would answer right back with Knowshon Moreno's second big run of the game, this time a 72 yard run down the right sideline, in which he broke just one tackle on his way to pay dirt.

Free Agent pickup Dewayne Robertson made his presence felt for the first time for
Cleveland, intercepting and errand Kyle Orton pass in Bronco territory. Cleavland wouldn't pick up a first down, but Phil Dawson would hit from 47 yards, barely, to pull within two scores.

The rest of the first half saw Denver not pick up a single first down, Brady Quinn throw a pick, and Steve Heiden fumble after a 15 yard gain. until the final minute. After a big completion to Mohamed Massaqoui, Quinn loaded up a bomb for Braylon Edwards. After it was tipped by Champ Bailey, it deflected off Edwards' hands into the hands of Massaqoui who side stepped Bailey and took it 47 yards to the house to pull Cleveland within a score at the half.

After trailing 24-7, and being completely outplayed the Browns turned it on, scoring 24 straight points between the second and third quarter to overtake the stunned Broncos. Quinn and Massaqoui seemed on the same page as they hooked up once more for a 10 yard strike.

The biggest play, literally and figuratively was Shaun Rogers' 34 yard interception return for a touchdown, which put Cleveland out front 31-24. Kyle Orton was pressed by Kenyon Coleman, and hit as he threw a wobbler into the waiting arms of Rogers who leaped over a down Orton and rumbled, slowly, for 6.

It seemed as if Denver had finally ended Cleveland's scoring run, but a Matt Prater 57 yard field goal, which was good by 10 yards at least was wiped off the board by a holding call, forcing the Broncos to punt.

The Browns would extend it to 31 straight points as Jamal Lewis led a 12 play 68 yard drive which took 7:12 off the clock in the fourth quarter. Lewis would cap it off with his second touchdown of the game on a 4 yard run, which put it out of reach for Denver.

Louks Dreadful as Utes Fall
Cain lousy aswell

With Matt Asiata on the shelf with an elbow injury, junior Eddie Wide would make his first career start at home against #22 Kansas. Coming into the game Wide had carried for 133 yards on 29 carries, a games load for Asiata, but it would have to do for the Utes, who despite being at home were 6 point underdogs to the Jayhawks and their middle of the road defense.

Todd Reesing and the Jayhawks would come out firing, scoring quickly on a 5 play 80 yard drive, while the Utah defense looked stunned and awed by the first big offense they'd seen all season.

The Utah wasn't in awe of the Kansas defense, marching right down the field, mainly on the shoulders of Eddie Wide to tie the game up at 7. Wide carried 6 timed for 38 yards on the drive, and punched it in untouched on the goal line.

Kansas' D would finally be the one to step up, as Corban Louks was sacked and fumbled the ball. On the first play following the fumble Todd Reesing would hook up with Dezmon Briscoe for the 44 yard touchdown.

Louks would atone for his fumble on the next drive, improvising on a broken play, rolling left and taking off, receiving a key block from Aiona Key on his way to a 32 yard touchdown scamper.

Reesing was on fire early, starting the game with 11 straight completions for 199 yards and two touchdowns. After the incompletion the Utah defense finally forced their first punt of the game, a beautiful punt downed at the Utah 8.

The Utah drived looked headed for a quick return to defense, but on a gutsy 4th and 1 the Ute's converted on a fake punt at their own 28 yard line. The drive would later end on a Corban Louks interception, but the defenses finally showed up midway through the second.

Both offenses would show one more sign of life before half, as both connected for long touchdown passes in the final minute, the Utah strike set up by a 59 yard kickoff return by RJ Stanford.

The defenses would get the scoring started in the second half, as Maxwell Onyegbule would pick off the third Corban Louks pass of the evening, racing 58 yards for the touchdown. And it wouldn't stop there. Four straight interceptions were returned for touchdowns, an NCAA record as Kansas quickly turned a tight contest into a laugher.

Utes Considering Removing Redshirt from Wynn
Unsatisfied with current Quarterback Play

With a bye week in the offing, and catastrophic quarterback play in the first four games of the year, the Utes have begun discussions on whether or not to remove the redshirt of freshman quarterback Jordan Wynn.

Wynn, Utah's top recruit in 08 has been enrolled at Utah since January, and has participated in all offseason activities. There is much to gain, and little to lose for the Utes, who have thrown a combined 13 interceptions in four games, including 7 against Kansas in their embarassing 63-28 loss at home, highlighted by four interception returns for touchdowns in the second half.

Lewis' Broken Hand Overshadows Browns Victory
Cleveland loses NFL leading rusher for up to 2 months

The Browns came into their divisional rivalry game at Baltimore riding high on the coat tails of their come-from-behind victory at Denver last week. Baltimore couldn’t have been happier to be home after a tough loss on the road against San Diego.

Cleveland would open up the scoring with an impressive opening drive, mixing the pass with the run well keeping the Baltimore defense off balance. Until they reached the five yard line. Jamal Lewis would get it to the one on second down, but Lawrence Vickers would be stopped in the back field on 3rd down, forcing Phil Dawson to attempt a gimme field goal.

The Browns defense would make their presence felt on the first offensive play of the game for Baltimore, as Brodney Pool picked up his second interception of the year as he stepped in front of Derrick Mason on a quick hook. Cleveland would move the ball well again, but once more the Ravens defense stood tall inside the five yard line, forcing Dawson to hit another short field goal.

On their next possession the Ravens would finally get it going, but on Joe Flacco’s 8 yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Williams Flacco would be dropped by Shaun Rogers and be forced to leave the game with a chest injury, Flacco would not return before half, leaving the Ravens with former Ohio State Buckeye Troy Smith under center.

On Smith’s first drive the Ravens would go three and out quickly, handing the ball off to Ray Rice twice before passing on 3rd and 2. Both defenses would come up big in the next few possessions, as Brodney Pool would pick off his second pass of the game, but on the next play Ed Reed would step in front of an ill-advised pass by Brady Quinn.

Two plays later Troy Smith would throw his second pick in as many drives in the red zone, placing one right into the hands of Kenyon Coleman, who dropped back from his right end position into coverage. Dominic Foxworth would pick off another Quinn pass in the final seconds of the first half to end hope of taking the lead.

After the Cleveland defense forced a quick three and out to start the second half, with Joe Flacco back at quarterback, the Browns offense went to work to try and retake the lead. Carried down the field by Jamal Lewis and James Davis, the Browns were finally able to punch it into the end zone as Brady Quinn threaded the ball between three defenders to Braylon Edwards in the end zone.

Willis McGahee would quickly change that. On his first rush of the game, McGahee broke free of a group of Browns defenders and broke free into the open field for a 44 yard touchdown. The lead wouldn’t last for long, as Brady Quinn would pair up with his rookie receivers, and Jamal Lewis for a 7 play 77 yard drive.

Cleveland would extend their lead after D’Qwell Jackson stepped up in front of a lazy Joe Flacco pass. Quinn and the offense wasted no time getting into field goal range, and Phil Dawson connected from 41 to put the Browns up 9.

Jamal Lewis would attempt to put the nail in the coffin, breaking an Ed Reed tackle on his way to a 41 yard touchdown, his longest rush of the season to date. The further Baltimore fell behind, the more chances Flacco took with the ball.

Lewis would not finish the game in one piece, as he would break his hand when he was leveled by Ray Lewis. Lewis is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, and will be replaced by James Davis and Jerome Harrison. That wasn’t the only injury for the Browns, who lost Eric Barton to an Abdominal Tear. He will miss 2-3 weeks.

Davis Shines in First NFL Start
Browns Improve to 4-0

Leading the AFC North isn't a common occurrence these days, but that's exactly where the Browns found themselves when divisional rival Cincinnati came barging into town.

For the second time this season the Browns opened the game with a scoring drive, as rookie James Davis, getting the start in place of the injured Jamal Lewis powered the drive carrying three times for 51 yards on the opening series.

Jon Runyan would be the latest Brown lost to injury, as he went down on the second series with a high ankle sprain. X-Rays were negative, but Runyan may miss next week.

Cincinnati finally got on the board in the second quarter after a Brady Quinn interception at the goal line. Carson Palmer led the Bengals down the field, but the Brown defense came up big in the red zone, forcing Cincinnati to settle for a short field goal. The Bengals would close the gap a bit more, as Graham would connect from 49 yards as the first half expired.

The half started well for the Bengals, as D'Qwell Jackson stripped Cedric Benson, but after a quick three and out Phil Dawson shanked a 35 yard field goal which would have put the Browns back up by a touchdown.

Josh Cribbs set Cleveland up with amazing field position after Shayne Graham's 53 yard field goal barely cleared the goal line. Cribbs fielded it and nearly took it all the way back, being tackled by Graham and the holder on the Bengal 44. Cleveland would take advantage, putting three more points on the board as the third ended.

The defense would step up on the next Bengal drive, as D'Qwell Jackson, who forced the fumble earlier jumped a curl route and picked off Carson Palmer, breaking a tackle attempt by Chad Ochocino before bring it back 46 yards for the score.

Cincinnati would finally score a touchdown on their next drive, as the Browns defense would bite on the play fake, leaving Ochocino open behind the defenders. Palmer would find him in stride for a 28 yard score, cutting the lead to just 7.

Eric Wright would help extend the lead, as he stepped up and picked off Carson Palmer, setting up a 38 yard field goal and a slightly more comfortable 10 point lead for the Browns. That would prove to be the difference, as the Bengals added a touchdown from Palmer to Coles, but were not able to stop the Browns from running out the clock.

Quarterback's Rebound, Utes Hold Off Rams
Louks Out for Month

With the uncertainty surrounding the play of the two quarterback's on the current Utah roster, it wasn't known whether Jordan Wynn would stay redshirted, or become the starter. Wynn will have to wait at least another week, as Corban Louks was given the start on the road at Colorado State.

Utah came out passing, to the surprise of many in attendance. Louks looked better than any other point in the season, but neither offense got much going until the second quarter, when Utah marched down the field and punched it in to open the scoring at 7.

The normally run heavy Utes fired down the field early and often, as the Rams shut down the running game for the most part. The was the first time since Matt Asiata went down that Utah truly missed his presence.

As the game progressed Louks looked more poised in the pocket, but it was his feet that helped move the Utes down the field. Louks scored on an 18 yard run to put Utah up 14, but on the ensuing kickoff Leonard Mason took it back 92 yards for the score to cut the lead to 7.

For Louks, that would be the end of his day, as he went down with a sprained pectoral muscle. Louks may miss up to a month, leaving the Utes with just one quarterback on the active roster. Terrance Cain picked up where Louks left off, firing a touchdown pass late in the second to give the Utes a 21-7 halftime lead.

That lead wouldn't last for long, as the Rams came out in the second half and scored two quick touchdowns to tie the game. It wouldn't be gone for long, as the Utes would go 64 yards on 5 plays, capped off by a 23 yard touchdown run by Eddie Wide to put Utah back up by 7 at the end of the third.

Cain was efficient, and protected the ball well, throwing just one interception, but it was a big one. Colorado State would take the ball 40 yards for the score to tie the game at 28 with just 2 minutes to play in the fourth.

Cain would atone for his mistake, leading a 7 play, 67 yard drive in the two minute drill, and finishing it off by finding Brad Clifford in the back of the end zone for the winning touchdown.
