Late Touchdown Propels Tigers Past Illini
Clutch drive upends Illinois

Last season the Illini and Tigers battled it out in a tough 14-10 game, which saw all the points scored in the second quarter, and Illinois coming out on top.

After a big first play sack, the Illini seemed to get on track, easily moving down the field on the young Missouri defense, who seemed a bit shell shocked early.

The Missouri offense was not, moving the ball methodically down the field, capped by redshirt freshman Jaleel Clark's first collegiate catch, a 15 yard touchdown. Both teams would again exchange touchdowns on their next drives to end the quarter at 14 all.

Missouri would hold Illinois to a field goal, the first real sign of defense in the game, but then Missouri would be held to a 47 yard attempt by their freshman kicker, but it fell 10+ yards short with the wind.

Derrick Washington, who missed 10 games last season with an injury was carted off the field in the second quarter with what appeared to be a broken left elbow. That will more than likely end his season and career. Both teams would fail to score late, and that would do it for the first half.

After a DeVion Moore fumble set up a short Illinois touchdown, Blaine Gabbert led the Tigers down the field and pulled them within 3 on his own, running it in from 9 yards out.

Illinois would tack on a long field goal to extend the lead to 6, but Blaine Gabbert and the Missouri offense would march down the field over the final four minutes of the game, methodically killing clock on a beautiful drive, capped off by a one yard run from third string back Kendial Lawrence, his first career touchdown.

The defense came to play after the first quarter, getting to Eddie McGee five times, and hitting him four other times to really disrupt the Illinois attack.

The defense started shaky, but dominated late

Missouri Rides 31 Unanswered Points to Roll Heels
Gabbert nearly perfect

Missouri plays its best football at Faurot Field, but with a top tier North Carolina team coming in, it would take a total team effort to come away with a W.

Missouri would come out strong, scoring on their opening 11 play 67 yard drive on a 1 yard run by DeVion Moore. The Tigers converted on a 4th and 5 from the UNC 27 before moving into position to score. UNC would waste little time getting back even, scoring on their opening possession as well.

The back and forth battle would continue into the second quarter. The UNC defense would continue to shut down the Missouri run, but the passing game would still work to perfection for the Tigers, as was evident on their second scoring drive.

UNC would respond with a score of their own, but after a Jaleel Clark fumble the Tar Heels would capitalize and take their first lead of the game midway through the second. In a reversed role, Mizzou seemed to drive down the field with ease for the tying score with 40 seconds left in the half.

After UNC was forced to punt the ball away, the first punt by either team, Missouri went to work, mixing up their passes with goal line runs, finally being capped by a Blaine Gabbert to DeVion Moore 30 yard touchdown pass.

Gabbert, having the best game of his career by far, started 19 for 19 for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns before throwing his first incomplete pass, in the fourth quarter. The onslaught would continue, after Carl Gettis picked off a Tyler Yates pass, DeVion Moore who started slowly but have a great game drove the dagger through the heart with an 11 yard touchdown run to cap a 31 point run.

Gabbert had a career day in defeating UNC

Thanks, I thought it was going to be a repeat of last season, but the defense finally came up big and kept Illinois from moving the ball.

Led by Aldon, Missouri Rolls Bulldogs
Six sacks sink Fresno

The Bulldogs of Fresno State are known for knocking off big time conference opponents, so when Missouri scheduled them to come into Faurot Field they knew it wouldn't be a cake walk.

Fresno State would strike first, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by captain Carl Gettis, who let his man get wide open behind him. That would be all the space the Bulldogs would need as they quickly capitalized and found the end zone.

Missouri would quickly respond, with a 7 play 76 yard drive, finished by a 7 yard run by Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert and the offense would just be getting started, scoring two more touchdowns before half, including a bomb to Jerrell Jackson with 3 seconds left from 60 yards out to take a 14 point halftime lead.

The Tigers looked as if they'd take a 17 point lead on their opening possession of the second half, but freshman kicker D White missed from 24 yards, pushing it right. Two plays later the defense would erase the mistake, as Kenji Jackson would fall on a fumble at the Fresno State 29. A solid effort from the Bulldog defense would force a Missouri punt.

It wouldn't be long before the Mizzou offense would strike again. After a Fresno State punt went into the end zone for a touchback, Gabbert would find Jaleel Clark for 80 yards, most of it after the catch, and a 21 point lead.

Finally Fresno State would stop the run, cutting the lead to 14 as Colburn would find Lindsey from two yards out. It wouldn't be long before the lead was back up to three scores, as DeVion Moore provided the spark, leading the driving and capping it with a 2 yard dive on third and goal.

Fresno would pull back within 14 on their next drive, capped by an amazing catch by Stewart on 4th and 12, just after it looked like their drive would be killed by back to back sacks from Aldon Smith. They would also recover the onsides kick.

Smith would be just as big on the next drive, sacking Colburn on both 3rd and 4th down to kill another Fresno State drive. On the afternoon it seemed as if Smith was unblocked, as he brought down Colburn 6 times, and hit him 7 other times.

Lost in Smith's epic game was freshman
WR Jaleel Clark's career performance
