2009 MIAMI DOLPHINS ROSTER
Quarterback
Chad Pennington (85)
Pat White (71) *ROOKIE*
Chad Henne (66)
Chad returns as starting QB for the Dolphins. Though he doesn’t have a gunslinger like White or Henne, he has far superior accuracy. A big question is his health; White or Henne will probably have to make a couple of starts at some point this year. The addition of White means the Fins have a natural QB as they use the Wildcat for the second season.
Halfback
Ronnie Brown (92)
Ricky Williams (76)
Patrick Cobbs (75)
Ronnie Brown is quickly ascending to become a top-notch back. A strong focus on the run game will benefit him, as well as an offensive line skilled at prepping the run.
Fullback
Lousaka Polite (67)
Without any blocking ability, don’t expect Polite to be around long.
Wide Receiver
Ted Ginn (87)
Davone Bess (79)
Greg Camarillo (75)
Patrick Turner (68) *ROOKIE*
Ernest Wilford (66)
Brandon London (65)
Ginn, in addition to being our clear #1 returner, is also the top receiver. Though Bess and Camarillo do not have the speed Ginn brings to the table, they have solid hands. Watch for Patrick Turner to try to break into the group in the preseason.
Tight End
Anthony Fasano (71)
David Marti (64)
Joey Haynos (62)
Fasano came to prominence last year with 7 TDs and a 13.3 yd/rec average. He is in the final year of his contract, so we expect to see him work for bigger money.
Offensive Line
LT Jake Long (90)
LT Brandon Frye (69)
LG Justin Smiley (87)
LG Andy Alleman (76)
C Jake Grove (83)
C Al Johnson (49)
RG Ike Ndukwe (70)
RG Donald Thomas (68)
RT Vernon Carey (86)
RT Nate Garner (44)
All of our O-Line have several years of experience except for Jake Long, last year’s #1 draft pick. Expect them to support the run well.
Defensive Line
LE Kendall Langford (79)
LE Tony McDaniel (74)
RE Randy Starks (81)
RE Phillip Merling (79)
DT Jason Ferguson (83)
DT Paul Soliai (68)
DT Joe Cohen (67)
The D-Line is led by Jason Ferguson, who is 34 and in the final year of his contract. The front office may be looking to replace him in the offseason as he’s showing signs of his aging. Defensive end starters are tentative; look for a shakeup in the preseason.
Linebackers
LOLB Jason Taylor (86)
LOLB Matt Roth (74)
LOLB Quentin Moses (57)
MLB Channing Crowder (86)
MLB Akin Ayodele (79)
MLB Reggie Torbor (70)
MLB William Kershaw (62)
ROLB Joey Porter (93)
ROLB Charlie Anderson (70)
Miami’s experience linebacking core is a force to be reckoned with. The depth chart at LB should remain the same following preseason play.
Secondary
CB Vontae Davis (76) *ROOKIE*
CB Will Allen (74)
CB Sean Smith (71) *ROOKIE*
CB Jason Allen (71)
CB Eric Green (70)
CB Nathan Jones (56)
FS Gibril Wilson (85)
FS Courtney Bryan (61)
FS Chris Clemons (61) *ROOKIE*
SS Yeremiah Bell (81)
SS Tyrone Culver (72)
Our secondary is in transition, leaving us susceptible to the long ball. Don’t be surprised if the Dolphins sign someone from the outside to upgrade this area.
Special Teams
K Dan Carpenter (80)
P Brandon Fields (72)
KR Ted Ginn (99)
PR Ted Ginn (99)
Carpenter and Fields both have strong legs, meaning a push to the red zone isn’t necessary just to get a field goal. Ted Ginn is going to score touchdowns this year as a returner; the only question is how many.
Captains
Joey Porter (with Dolphins for 2 seasons)
Jason Taylor (with Dolphins for 11 seasons)
Chad Pennington (with Dolphins for 1 season)
