Lions Headed to Lambeau with Streak-Ending Intentions

Aaron Smith, Detroit Free Press

Green Bay-You know what's amazing? The fact that ever since my son was born the Lions have never won a game at Lambeau field. Funny thing is my son is 19. So, basically the Lions have not won a game at Lambeau in 20 years. What that means is for 20 straight years we were destined to lose at this historic stadium. I wish I could defend them in this, but it's hard to. Honestly there is no excuse for letting a team pound on you like this for 2 decades. Because of history the Packers and Lions are suppose to be rivals, but if you look at the past 2 decades of the Lions playing like less than an NFL team you get the feeling the only reason that this is still a rivalry is because these teams are in the same divisions. The Lions need to take that next step and end this streak if they even want to be considered as a real contender.

Last week the Lions disposed of Minnesota, why not make it two division games in a row? If we beat Green Bay, we put ourselves in a position for success. To make it a little more easier, the Packers starting Quarterback, a guy by the name of Aaron Rogers won't be playing this game. So why not take advantage of this and end the streak and put more of a choke hold on the division?

"This game means a lot too us as the not only a team looking to make the playoffs, but as Lions periods." said Coach Schwartz. The team seems so pumped on winning this game as a personal vendetta against the Packers, for pretty much dominating the Lions for a while. Look for a rivalry-type game this time.

Thanks man! The Pack seem like they are missing Aaron Rogers a little in this Chise. Once he comes back I think they will streak to first, I picked them to win it all haha.

Streaking the Past

Aaron Smith, Detroit Free Press

DETROIT--The Lions haven't won in Green Bay since Week 16 in 1991. After that the Lions dropped 20 straight games to the Packers at Lambeau. That was before October 2, 2011. The Lions finally won in Green Bay for the first time in two decades.

It wasn't an easy game by any means. The Lions had much trouble finding the endzone, as did the Packers. It was a field goal game up until the 4th Quarter. When the Lions answered early with an Aaron Brown 8 yard touchdown run to make the game 19-3. The Pack answered back with a touchdown of their own, but failed to connect a crucial two-point conversion, which would later haunt them. Detroit started to run clock as they realized a victory was in grasp. Green Bay stopped their time-consuming drives a few times only to be held to a field goal, that wouldn't help their cause much.
"We won this game by being in control and turnover free" Jim Schwartz said. The Lions have not turned the ball over all season.

Even though it wasn't easy Detroit controlled the game for most of the time, both in time of possession and lead. Don't be fooled by the score, it was really 22-12 in my eyes. The Pack scored on a last second play in which Chase Daniels through a hailmary and connected a with James Jones in the endzone on a stat boosting score.

The quarterback play was interesting as well. The Pack was without Aaron Rogers, who is out with a dislocated ankle. So in comes Chase Daniels who, despite the score, passed for 343 yards with 2 TD and only 1 interception. "We wanted to put a lot of pressure on Daniels, that's was our defensive message for this game." Louis Delmas said. On the other side, Matthew Stafford had a pretty rough game, he had 213 yards, but no finished the game with no touchdowns for the first time in 13 games.

What would seem like bad news for the Lions is the fact that Kevin Smith went out with an injury late in the second quarter. This didn't seem to effect the ground game as second string back Aaron Brown came in and rushed for 64 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. "I wanted to make sure I got out their and continue the running game that we established early" Brown said after the game. Smith is out with a broken jaw and can miss from 3 to 5 games. This might be a big blow to the Lions offense, and clock-control gameplan.

You would have thought these players won the Super Bowl with a the way they celebrated. "Man it feels too good to walk away with victory like this. Hopefully, we can write a new chapter in the history of our rivalry" Coach Jim Schwartz said while his player toasted champagne in the locker room. Regardless to say, the Lions Franchise needed this victory, it seems like they are escaping that futility that is associated with them.

With the win the Lions are now 4-0, and and still hold a big lead in the NFC North. The Vikings beat the Bears, and make the NFC title race more interesting with the Bears and Pack without a win this year.

Re: Detroit Lions: The Heart of a Lion

Looking good. A 3 game lead is pretty nice, eh?

If you do transfer to a 3-4, Avril would be a pretty solid OLB (if you still have him). I think he played OLB in college or something.

Lions Look to Continue Streak vs. the Bucs

DETROIT--(AP) The Detroit Lions are 4-0 and in Week 5 they will be hosting the 1-2 Buccaneers, who are coming off a bye week. In recent years the Buccaneers have feel back to the leagues basement, and the Lions seem to be climbing out of it.

The Buccaneers are playing their 4th road game of the season, and have one more left vs. the Falcons left on their road trip. They have yet to play a home and game and will not do so until, they host the Panthers in Week 7. During this trip, they made a visit to Jacksonville, where they feel short vs. the Jaguars, then dropped to the Titans. Their win came against the Redskins, who have yet to win a game.

The Lion on the other hand have been impressive. They are 4-0 for the first time since 1980. They beat a couple of quality opponents with the Vikings, Packers and Saints. The Lions also have been brilliant in not turning the ball over. In all four games this year, they have yet to throw a pick or lose a fumble. This will be an important factor for this game, since the Lions are without star running back Kevin Smith.

Just Buckin' By

DETROIT--(AP) In an extremely wild game the Lions prevailed over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite the three turnovers from Matthew Stafford. This game had to be decided in overtime for a winner.

The first half of the game was fairly quiet with no touchdowns and just a field goal fest going on. The Lions came out the third quarter with guns blazing after forcing a Tampa Bay three-and-out. The Bucs soon answered back with a quick scoring drive. The game was 19-13 in favor of the Buccaneers coming into the 4th Quarter. The Lions took the lead early, only to have it stripped again. With 3 minutes to go the Bucs had to punt the ball, then Stafford led the Lions on a game-tying drive with less than 2 minutes to go. Josh Freeman led the Bucs down the field into field goal range, but the Barth failed to secure the victory and missed it wide left.

With the game going to OT, the Bucs won the coin toss and received first, but they were forced to a three-and-out. With this the Lions scored two plays later on a 80 Yard pass to Calvin Johnson. The pass was short, but Johnson broke a key tackle and ran free to win the game.

"It was a great play, I didn't think Calvin would be able to get loose like that. I saw him open, and just tossed it hoping to keep the drive alive. I wasn't expecting a touchdown play, but of course we'll take it." Matthew Stafford said during the press conference.

The Lions now move to 5-0 and are tied at the top of the NFC.
