Chiefs score 17 straight to end game,
hand Jacksonville first loss of year
Jacksonville, Fla. (AP) — After beginning the season against two teams with two very inexperienced quarterbacks, the Jaguars were faced with the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs and Drew Brees in week four.
The Jaguars led 20-7 late in the fourth quarter before the explosive Kansas City offense finally came alive and rallied to win 24-20.
“It’s tough to lose a game like that after holding such a solid lead but the truth of the matter is that the Chiefs just weren’t playing very well yet,” head coach Crusader said. “We forced them to stall their drives a few times early in the game but it wasn’t going to be easy to keep it up.”
While Brees is the anchor of the Chief offense, he is surrounded by some pretty good talent too. His top three receivers are Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt and Andre Johnson and his tight end is Tony Gonzalez, not to mention Willis McGahee toting the rock around.
The offense fire power was just too much for the Jaguars at home. McGahee got the comeback started with a 42-yard touchdown run with 2:20 left in the third quarter to make the score 20-14.
McGahee finished with a historic game for himself gaining 219 yards on 30 carries.
The Chiefs then started the fourth off with a bang when Brees hooked up with Holt for a 45-yard strike.
The Jaguars could not amount any offense in the final quarter despite some pretty good overall performances from Rex Grossman and Larry Fitzgerald.
Grossman threw for 239 yards and two scores with Fitzgerald being his favorite target making 12 grabs for 101 yards and a score in the game.
Jacksonville will get a chance for an easy win next week as they are to play the pitiful New York Giants (0-4) who start Craig Krenzel (65 OVR) at quarterback.
