Week 3 Game of the Week Highlights Two Undefeated Teams

The AFA will feature two undefeated teams in their Game of the Week for Week 3. The Scranton Miners will travel to Richmond to face the Gorillas in a battle of 2-0 teams.

What we know:

Richmond has won the turnover battle in each of its first two games, and have been led by the steady performance of QB Jerome Gardwin. Defensive End Pete Whitman has been a force, and the Gorillas have been solid in all aspects of the game to date.

For Scranton, the quarterback position has been shaky, with four different players already taking snaps on the year. The running game, however, has been solid, with HB Anthony Trapp leading the way.
Richmond has been more impressive to date, and being the home team should be the slight favorite in this one.

Prediction: Richmond 30, Scranton 21

Re: The American Football Association

Miners, Gorillas Go Down to the Wire

In a Game of the Week that lived up to the hype, visiting Scranton upset Richmond 17-16 to remain unbeaten on the season.

The Gorillas struck first, using this fumble by Anthony Trapp to scoop and score for a quick 7-0 lead.

Richmond extended their lead to 10-0 later in the first quarter on a field goal, but Scranton quickly responded with a TD to cut the score to 10-7 with a few minutes left in the half. The Miners worked their way down the field in the final seconds of the first half, but with no timeouts, could not get their kicking team on the field. This last second attempt to score was stopped by the Gorillas, and Scranton came away with no points despite moving the ball all the way down the field:

As the game progessed, Richmond would take a 16-14 lead into the fourth quarter. With less than two minutes left, Miners RB Anthony Trapp busted off this huge run to put Scranton in position to kick the go-ahead field goal.

Gorillas QB Jerome Gardwin would make several clutch passes, including this 4th down pass to keep Richmond's final drive alive:

But time would run out on the Gorillas, and this desperation heave was bobbled, and then dropped, to end the game.

Scranton will face Portland next week, and the Gorillas will battle the Pirates.

Week 4 To Begin Bye Weeks

Several teams will have a bye week beginning Week 4, meaning the week's slate will be a little lighter than in previous weeks. Boise, Omaha, Santa Fe, and Tulsa all have the week off.

* Also, I didn't upload any videos for this week, so there will not be a Game of the Week recap.... I'll post a new one for Week 5 after the league-wide update....
