Steve: ....and we're back from commercial. You're listening to Steve and Steven in the Evening on 101.4 FM.
Steven: Again, our show is sponsored by Bud Light, ESPN.com, and Trojan Condoms.
Steve: Our guest of the day today will be head coach of the newly formed Bloomington Blaze college football team (if you don't know who they are, you can always check out our website at SAS.com), James Guthrie. Welcome James, you're on the Steve and Steven show.
James: .....huh? Oh yeah, sorry, I'm here.
(Laughs)
Steve: So James, you w-
Steven: My turn. So James, what's it like being a coach of a new team?
James: It's challenging, to say the least. We will be one of the worst teams in Division 1, and because of that I gave us the easiest schedule out of any school. That way, we have a chance of finishing 4-8 or 5-7. The worst thing you can do is finish 0-12 in your first season.
Steven: How about recruiting?
James: Is this live?
Steve: No
James: Good, because it's total ****. (Laughs). It's impossible to get anyone to go here. On our list of 35 players, we have five 2 star recruits and the rest are 1 stars. It'll be nearly impossible to recruit anybody. Building this team into a championship contender will definitely be harder than it seems.
Steve: Your first two games are against #15 Cal and Indiana. Give us your thoughts on those games.
James: Indiana is a dominant passing team. They have a great quarterback in Ben Chappell and a plethora of receivers. With our depleted defense, it will be easy for them to throw for 300 or 400 yards. Their running game is significantly weaker than their passing game (no offense to Bryan Payton, their HB), so we should be able to stop them there. On our side of the ball, it will be all up to James Guthrie to pass us to victory. Chris Payne--our running back--is very fast, but I don't think he'll be able to outrun these top-tier teams. Our special teams is main focus for the game. If we can get ourselves into great field position with special teams (or put them into bad positions), we can hang around for a while.
Steven: Dare I even ask what you'll do against Cal?
James: We'll focus on them after our game against Indiana.
Steve: Isn't Indiana one of your rivals?
James: Yea, we'll play in the "Cross-Town Crusades" with the winner winning a metal pistol. I know it doesn't make any sense, but it looks pretty sick. We're going to try to be the first to win it.
Steven: That looks like all of our time today. Thanks for being on our show.
James: The pleasure is mine. (Phone hangs up).
Steve: That was James Guthrie, head coach of the upstart Bloomington Blaze. If you're wondering, the Blaze's schedule will be released tomorrow. People like us already know it, but it wi-
Steven: Suckers.
(Laughs)
Steve: Yea, you'll be able to see it tomorrow on either their website (go to Bloomington.Blaze.edu/football/schedule) or their daily newsletter.
Steven: Well, yeah, we'll see you guys tomorrow at 9:00 P.M. As usual.
Steve: So long, everybody.
