Player Spotlight: Dane Sanzenbacher
July 29th, 2010

******** type="text/javascript" src="http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.js">If you look up the definition of a "possession receiver", you should probably see a picture of Dane Sanzenbacher. With his great hands, ability to run perfect routes, and a knack of finding the soft spot in the defensive coverage, Sanzenbacher is a player that any offense would love to have.

Sanzenbacher played his High School ball at one of Ohio's most prestigious schools, Central Catholic in Toledo. After his first two stellar season at Central Catholic, Dane started receiving interest from local Ohio colleges. Some of the interested schools included Toledo, Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami Oh, and Ohio. When Sanzenbacher received a call from Dick Tressel, an Ohio State assistant coach and brother of head coach Jim Tressel, Dane's choice quickly became a no-brainier. Ohio State received a verbal commit from Sanzenbacher in July 2006.

When Dane arrived at Ohio State for his Freshman year in 2007, wide receivers Brain Robiskie and Brian Hartline were still Juniors and would limit Sanzenbacher's playing time early in his college career. At the end of his Freshman year, Sanzenbacher had recorded only 3 receptions.

Dane would receive more playing time in his Sophomore year at Ohio State, but still wouldn't be a key piece to the Buckeyes offense. At the end of the 2008 season, Sanzenbacher caught only 21 balls, one of which was a touchdown.

With the graduation of Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline, Sanzenbacher would be awarded his first college starting job at the start of 2009. Sanzenbacher started his starting career off hot with 3 touchdowns in his first three games as a starter.

Sanzenbacher's hot start would eventually slow down, but 2009 was still a success for Sanzenbacher. Dane finished 2009 with 36 receptions, 570 receiving yards, and 6 touchdowns. Dane probably had the best game of his career in the Buckeyes Rose Bowl win when he caught 9 balls for 67 yards.

Although his career hasn't been too flashy to this point, Sanzenbacher is expected of a big season in 2010. Sanzenbacher comes into 2010 as a First Team All-Big Ten wide receiver. Sanzenbacher will be the perfect "quick-couple-of-yards" option that Terrelle Pryor will need in order to progress into a deadly passer, and should become one of the more important pieces to the Buckeyes pass attack.

Player Spotlight: Cameron Heyward
July 31st, 2010

COLUMBUS, OH - NOVEMBER 03: Cameron Heyward #97 of the Ohio State Buckeyes chases down Tyler Donovan #12 of the Wisconsin Badgers on November 3, 2007 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State defeated Wisconsin 38-17. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)
******** type="text/javascript" src="http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.js">In his 3 previous years at Ohio State, Cameron "Ironhead Jr." Heyward has proved to be one of the nations most powerful defensive ends. At 6'6 288 LBS, Heyward has the power to blow up runs in the backfield while still keeping feet quick enough to apply pressure to any QB.

Heyward's career started in High School in Suwanee, Georgia. Heyward left High School as 4 star prospect according to most recruiting sources, and drew plenty of interest from many SEC schools. With scholarships on the table from Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Ohio State, Heyward elected to play for Ohio State mostly because of the playing time he could receive as early as his Freshman year, if he elected to red-shirt his first year on campus. Heyward decided to red-shirt for his freshman year.

After one year as a red-shirt, Heyward entered 2009 knowing the playbook, experienced, and had bulked up since his Senior year in High School. The choice to sit out a year would benefit Heyward in the long run.

Heyward received as much playing time as any D1 player could ask for in his first year on campus. At the end of his Freshman season, Heyward had proven himself as an impact player on a stout Ohio state defense. Heyward's final season stat line included 33 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Impressive numbers for a Freshman at a top caliber school such as Ohio State.

By his Sophomore season, word of Heyward's potential was spreading resulting in a much harder job for Heyward to be a game changer. Heyward only recorded 4.5 tackles for a loss in his Sophomore season, but he still managed to squeak out 3 sacks and 37 tackles.

Cameron's Junior season is when he would explode into the national spotlight. Heyward recorded career highs in tackles and sacks in 2009 with 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and tied his career high in tackles for a loss with 10. Heyward finished 2009 as an All-Big Ten defensive linemen, and enters 2010 as a preseason All-American.

Cameron Heyward is the motor inside that powers the Ohio State defense. Whether it's a run, or pass, Heyward is sure to apply pressure to the ball carrier and come up big in the teams most need times.

I remember Heyward from their bowl game last season. He was causing chaos everywhere. With Rolle and Heyward this D looks very very imposing.

Dude is a BEAST for sure. I have yet to see an OT who can consistently block him 1 on 1 without getting ran over. At 288, he might have to move to DT or play in a 34 in the NFL, but I could EASILY see him being a 1st rounder in the 2011 draft.

UPDATE: I' getting the game early I think. Hopefully if I do, I can start figuring sliders out and be ready to play when roster are released in 2 weeks or so.

Anything else you guys would like to see? These Spotlights are kinda repetitive I know, and I'm willing to listen to new ideas. I got a few other things planned, but anybody want to see something else?
