Re: Football is Life...The Rest is just Details. (NCAA 11)
Battle for the Megaphone
The Megaphone Trophy is awarded each year to the winner of the football game between the University of Notre Dame and Michigan State University. It was introduced in 1949. The Notre Dame side of the trophy is blue, while the Michigan State side is green. The rivalry includes many great games, such as The Game of the Century, arguably the greatest college football game ever played. Notre Dame currently leads the all-time series 45-27-1.
MSU 1-0(0-0) vs ND 2-0
Overall Rating: B ------ B
Offense Rating: B+ ------ B+
Defense Rating: B ------ B
Preview:
MSU vs ND is one of the most heated rivalries in college football and this year is no different. The keys for MSU too win are going to be solid QB play from Cousins and starting a running game, with Caper out for 3 more weeks. Also, the Spartans defense needs to step it up in the red zone because Notre Dame is not a CMU kind of team and will lite up MSU if they can't stop the passing.
Review: This was a classic MSU vs ND rivalry game, with each team swapping the lead many times. ND played a great game but MSU played an even better one, the defense stepped up and D. Spears carried the offense on his back a couple times during those long drives. Also, K. Cousins did his part by finishing off two long drives with short TD passes. This win puts MSU at 2-0 on the season and has the MSU fans getting more and more excited to see some more MSU football, next up Virginia.
C. Gantt(#83) catches this 4 yard toss from K. Cousins to put MSU up 7-3 2:12 before halftime.
F. Smith(#6) celebrated with M. Dell(#2) after catching a 2 yard touchdown pass to put MSU up 14-10 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
D. Spears(#26) runs in from 1 yard out for the game winning touchdown.
Preview: This should be a good game to watch as both of these teams are about equal on paper, although MSU having home field advantage tilts everything too the Spartans favor. Hopefully, D. Spears can put on a show like he did last week and K. Cousins keeps on playing good football. If the Spartans do that they will walk away with and easy win.
Review: This was a battle for the ages, MSUs defense stepped up when Cousins had an off day. MSUs defense had a very good day causing 3 turnovers and only allowed 1 red zone touchdown, on the other hand Cousins had a very inconsistent day tossing 2 touchdowns and 3 picks. All in all, MSU is off to a great start at 3-0 but is about to collide with the juggernaut called Wisconsin. So fans grab your gear and tickets the Spartans are gonna need all the help they can get.
K. Cousins(#8) didn't have a day to remember tossing 3 picks.
T. Robinson(#59) intercepts this pass to stop an UVA drive dead in it's tracks.
C. Gantt(#83) catches this short pass and runs in for a touchdown on MSUs first possession in overtime.
