Football is Life...The Rest is just Details. (NCAA 11)

Some of you may remember my NCAA 10 dynasty with WKU. Well, folks it's that time again.

I will start off at Michigan State and then who knows what will happen from there.

Michigan State Spartans 2010 Preview

Spartans Offense

Quarterbacks
1.) Kirk Cousins 6'3'' 202lbs (RS)Junior
2.) Keith Nichol 5'9'' 185lbs (RS)Junior
Joe Boisture 6'6'' 202lbs Freshman

Grade - B-
Cousins is a very smart Quarterback with a good arm and is the undeniable leader of this offense. With MSU's receiver corps Cousins could light up some teams through the air this year.

Halfbacks

1.) Larry Caper 5'11'' 220lbs Sophomore
2.) David Spears 5'10'' 200lbs (RS)Sophomore
3.) Andre Buford 5'8'' 184lbs (RS)Sophomore
4.) Tony Lippett 6'3'' 185lbs Freshman
Eric Baker 5'9'' 199lbs Sophomore
Nick Hill 5'7'' 179lbs Freshman

Grade - C
Larry Caper is a back that NFL scouts look for, he can run defenders over or juke around them and he can catch pretty well also. The Spartans have a lot of depth here which will make their running game deadly in 2010.

Fullbacks

1.) Nick Bendzuck 6'2'' 245lbs (RS)Senior
2.) Adam Setterbo 6'3'' 228lbs (RS)Junior

Grade - D+
Bendzuck will play a key role in MSUs running game this year, as he has to lead the way for the backs.

Wide Receivers
1.) B.J. Cunningham 6'2'' 206lbs (RS)Junior
2.) Mark Dell 6'2'' 197lbs Senior
3.) Keshawn Martin 5'11'' 185lbs Junior
4.) Chris D. Rucker 5'10'' 175lbs (RS)Junior
5.) Fred Smith 6'2'' 228lbs Junior
6.) Donald Spencer 6'2'' 205lbs (RS)Freshman
Jeremy Langford 6'0'' 185lbs Freshman
Bennie Fowler 6'1'' 206lbs Freshman
Keith Mumphery 5'11'' 195lbs Freshman

Grade - C
MSU has a solid group of young receivers and they are explosive too. Cousins will have a good year if these receivers don't take plays off and drop passes.

Tight Ends
1.) Charlie Gantt 6'5'' 255lbs (RS)Senior
2.) Brian Linthicum 6'5'' 240lbs (RS)Junior
3.) Dion Sims 6'5'' 275lbs Sophomore

Grade - B
Gantt, the 2nd team preseason All-American, will be the go to man in the Spartans receiving group and he will also be one of the biggest threats in the red zone.

Tackles
1LT.) John Deyo 6'6'' 294lbs (RS)Sophomore
1RT.) D.J. Young 6'5'' 315lbs (RS)Senior
2LT.) Zach Hueter 6'6'' 330lbs (RS)Sophomore
2RT.) JMichael Deane 6'5'' 312lbs (RS)Senior
Skyler Schofner 6'7'' 276lbs Freshman

Grade - B-
A very good group of you men solidify this O-line and will be the biggest reason Capers and company have a good year. Also, most of them will be back next year, so they will only get better.

Guards
1LG.) Joel Foreman 6'4'' 306lbs (RS)Junior
1RG.) Jared McGaha 6'6'' 295lbs (RS)Junior
2LG.) Ethan Ruhland 6'5'' 290lbs (RS)Sophomore
2RG.) Chris McDonald 6'5'' 295lbs (RS)Sophomore
3LG.) Micajah Reynolds 6'5'' 302lbs (RS)Freshman
Travis Jackson 6'4'' 265lbs Freshman

Grade - C
There are some very good run blockers in the middle of the Spartans line and will need to be bring their A game if MSU wants to score in the redzone. Most of these players are young and have a bright future in the next year or two.

Centers
1.) John Stipek 6'5'' 292lbs (RS)Senior
2.) Nate Klatt 6'4'' 290lbs (RS)Freshman

Grade - B
Stipek is the hands down leader of this young O line and will play a very important role in assigning blocks and keeping Cousins standing up.

Spartans Defense

Defensive Ends
1LE.) Colin Neely 6'1'' 258lbs (RS)Senior
1RE.) Cameron Jude 6'3'' 265lbs (RS)Sophomore
2LE.) Tyler Hoover 6'7'' 270lbs (RS)Sophomore
2RE.) Taylor Calero 6'3'' 230lbs Freshman
3LE.) Marcus Rush 6'3'' 225lbs Freshman
William Gholston 6'7'' 237lbs Freshman

Grade - C
There are some very good run stoppers here, but MSU will need to find a way to put more pressure on the opposing QB.

Defensive Tackles
1.) Oren Wilson 6'3'' 294lbs Senior
2.) Jerel Worthy 6'3'' 298lbs (RS)Sophomore
3.) Kevin Pickelman 6'4'' 278lbs (RS)Junior
4.) Blake Treadwell 6'3'' 277lbs Sophomore
Anthony White 6'3'' 305lbs Freshman

Grade - C
Wilson is one of, if not the strongest person on the team and he will be a leading force in disrupting opposing offenses.

Outside Linebackers
1LOLB.) Eric Gordon 6'0'' 228lbs (RS)Senior
1ROLB.) Chris Norman 6'1'' 225lbs (RS)Freshman
2LOLB.) Jon Misch 6'3'' 206lbs (RS)Senior
2ROLB.) Steve Gardiner 6'1'' 220lbs (RS)Sophomore
3LOLB.) Jeremy Gainer 6'1'' 230lbs (RS)Freshman
Justin Wilson 6'0'' 217lbs Freshman

Grade - C
The Spartans are a little weak here, but have some solid players in Gordon and Norman, Both are solid tacklers and decent in coverage. Coach Young will need to getting recruiting immediately to fill this weak spot on MSUs defense.

Middle Linebackers
1.) Greg Jones 6'1'' 235lbs Senior
2.) Tyqaun Hammock 6'0'' 250lbs (RS)Freshman
Max Bullough 6'3'' 225lbs Freshman

Grade - B-
Greg Jones is one of the best linebackers in the country and has earned his preseason 2nd All American status with his solid tackling and very good leadership skills.

Cornerbacks
1.) Chris L. Rucker 6'2'' 195lbs Senipr
2.) Johnny Adams 5'11'' 170lbs Junior
3.) Mitchell White 6'1'' 172lbs (RS)Sophomore
4.) Chase Parker 5'9'' 177lbs (RS)Freshman
Mylan Hicks 5'11'' 182lbs Freshman
Kurtis Drummond 6'2'' 198lbs Freshman

Grade - C
This is the Spartans weakest position on defense, but Rucker brings some talent to it. These guys will need to play very well if MSU wants to be the Ohio States and Penn States of college football.

Free Safeties
1.) Trenton Robinson 5'10'' 190lbs Junior
2.) Isaiah Lewis 5'11'' 190lbs Freshman

Grade - C+
Robinson is a very good safety with great speed and coverage skills, but will need to play some very good football if MSU doesn't wanna get lite up through the air.

Strong Safeties
1.) Marcus Hyde 6'0'' 202lbs (RS)Senior
2.) Jairus Jones 6'1'' 215lbs (RS)Freshman

Grade - C+
Both of these guys are MSUs hardest hitters and will more than likely make receivers hear footsteps in 2010.

Spartans Special Teams

Kickers
1K.) Dan Conroy 5'10'' 185lbs (RS)Sophomore
1P.) Aaron Bates 6'0'' 192lbs Senior

Grade - B
Conroy is very accurate kicker, but gonna need to be spot on with all of his field goals so the Spartans can win close games. Bates is a big legged punter and very good at pinning teams inside their own 20.

Kick Returners
1KR.) Isaiah Lewis 5'11'' 190lbs Freshman
1PR.) Keshawn Martin 5'11'' 185lbs Junior

Grade - C
Lewis is the fastest person on the team and pretty agile, also Martin has solid hands and good speed. Look for MSUs kick returning to be explosive this year.

Overall - C+
MSU has a realistic shot at the Big Ten title this year if their secondary plays very well and Cousins has solid QB play. This year look for Caper too surprise some critics and he could even lead the Big Ten in rushing or maybe even the country.

Re: Football is Life...The Rest is just Details. (NCAA 11)

CMU 0-0(0-0) vs MSU 0-0(0-0)

Overall Rating: C+ ----- B
Offense Rating: C ----- B+
Defense Rating: C+ ----- B

Lee = MSU
Kirk = MSU

Preview
MSU 2010 season opener is against the in state foe Central Michigan. CMU is team that should be taken lightly though, but if MSU plays some decent football they will come out on top.
