Miami, FL - The Miami Hurricanes are coming off the first repeat of National Championships since the 2003-2004 USC Trojons. The program is once again the king of the college football but, how long they can stay there is the question for the 2012 Miami Hurricanes. Today we will preview the offensive and tomorrow the defense and special teams. The Canes return 5 starters on offense. The biggest question mark is new starting quarterback, sophomore Jerome Perkins, who has the task of replacing the 2-time National Championship winner Jacory Harris.
Perkins though is no scrub, he is a former 5-star quarterback from the 2011 recruiting class. Also going for Perkins is 4 of the 5 returning starters are offensive linemen. Lamar Miller is the 5th returnee at the running back position, were he ran for 1264 yds. and 7 TD last year.
Another positive for the offense is the signing of 5-star wide reciever Lance Parker and also in the wide receiver mix seniors Tommy Streeter and Kendal Thompkins. Possibly the biggest news for the offense though is the returning of offensive coordinator Mark Whipple, who was offered the head coach position at Vanderbilt this off-season but, turn it down after there were rumors he was going to accept the offer.
With Whipple still at the helm he should be able to adopt his offense to the talents of the team and get the best out of every player. Hopefully in fall camp the players can start to come together and shape into what the 2012 Miami Hurricanes offense will look like. Here are my predictions for the depth chart:
Miami, FL - Yesterday I previewed the Canes offense, today I will preview the Canes defense and special teams. The defense will return 5 starters from last year's National Championship team. The leader of the defense will be 3-year starter Marcus Forston at defensive tackle. Forston is projected to be the next great Miami defensive tackle taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, joining the likes of Warren Sapp and Cortez Kennedy. Next to Forston will be senior Curtis Porter and at left defensive end will be returning starter Oliver Vernon.
At right defensive end it will be either sophomore Tony Bracken or 5-star defensive end Sabbath Al Ghaffar. Al Ghaffar is another member of the 2012 recruiting, and possibly the most highly touted. Standing 6-6ft 240lbs many are comparing him to Julius Peppers and that comparison could be spot on by the athleticism Al Ghaffar possess. If he plays this year it will come down to him adopting to the speed of the game and learning to stick to his assignments.
The position hit the hardest this year on defense is linebacker with no returning starters and the players there have little to no experience. Shayon Green, at middle linebacker, is the lone senior of the group and will have to step up this year due to the possibility of having a sophomore Travis Williams and freshmen Blake Hadley at the other two linebacker positions. In the secondary Ray Ray Armstrong, Jamal Reid, and Latwan Anderson return. The other conerback position will be filled by senior Brandon Mcgee, who was the nickelback last year. Replacing him will be sophomore Micheal Hollins.
On to special teams the punter and kicker position will be filled by Jake Wieclaw. While for the returner spot it looks like a combination of Zach Moore and Storm Johnson. The defense has been the strength of this team for the past 2 years but, now that all those players have left its now up to the new guys to come in carry the torch. This is what i project the depht chart to look like:

Miami Hurricanes - 2012 Depth Chart - Special Teams
Miami, FL - Fall practice has ended and the questions that we had about this Miami Hurricane team have been answered. The biggest news coming out of camp is that Sabbath Al Ghaffar will start at right defensive end this fall. The highly touted freshmen has made an impressed his coaches and teammates. When asked about Al Ghaffar head coach Randy Shannon had this to say, "He was wrecking havoc in the backfield the whole camp but, most importantly he did everything we told him to do, he was discipline and played under control."
On the other side of the ball quarterback Jerome Perkins started off the camp slow but, as camp when on he started to get in rhythm with the offensive. By far Perkins favorite target is freshmen wide receiver Lance Parker. The 6-4 Parker, is reminding fans of Miami great Andre Johnson, with his great size and being able to still run by conerbacks.
The biggest problem coming out of camp was the linebackers. The whole group were out of position and hesitate at times to make plays. The leader of the group Shayon Green said this about the current state of the linebacker play, "We have to step up, every single one of us or else its going to bring down the team and we won't reach our goals this year." This is not the same team as last year, its going to be an uphill climb if they are going to get a chance at their third National Championship. If this team figures it out and plays up to their potential they have a chance. But how fast they can figure it out is the question and if it takes too long Canes fans could be in for a long season.

Miami Hurricanes Wk.1 (BYE) next week @Boston College
Recruiting Trail (Wk.1)
#7 QB ESPNU 150 Paul Benson committed to LSU
#1 RB ESPNU 150 Reggie Grant committed to Ohio St.
#4 WR ESPNU 150 Will Cowan committed to Florida St
#3 SS ESPNU 150 Kevin Perkins committed to Rugters
Recruiting News
The biggest need for the Miami Hurricanes in recruiting this year is defensive tackle. With the departure of both seniors Marcus Forston and Curtis Porter the Canes will have to add a few. The staff waited no time the first name on there board was local prospect #1 DT ESPNU Jaquez Gooden.
The 6-4ft 300lbs prospect has been known for awhile locally for his play since his sophomore year of high school. The Canes have also taken notice and are rumored to be an early favorite for Gooden. If the Canes could land him it would go a long ways in replacing Forston next year.

Game Preview Miami at Boston College
Miami, FL -
Analysis: The season is about to begin for the 2012 Miami Hurricanes, tomorrow they visit Boston College. This game will shows us just what the 2012 season will have in store for the Canes. These two teams are pretty evenly matched, Boston College is led by senior quarterback Dave Shinskie and a pair of talented receivers.
While on defensive they are led by middle linebacker Luke Kuechly and two huge defensive tackles who are able to keep the offensive linemen off of Kuechly. The major weakness of Boston College is their secondary which, quarterback Jerome Perkins is going to have to attack tomorrow to have success on offense.
Key Match-up: DE Sabbath Al Ghaffar vs. LT John Wetzel
Wetzel is one of the best offensive tackles in college football if Al Ghaffar can beat him and get pressure on the quarterback, Miami could shut down Boston College offense.
Prediction: Mia 24 BC 14 I expect the Canes to come out and be able to attack Boston College secondary and get an early lead, so they can send pressure at Shinskie to keep him from getting into rhythm.
