Re: Washington State Cougars(NCAA 11)

Cougars Crush Rebels in 35-6 Rout

vs
Martin Stadium, 2:00 PM. Pullman, Washington. September 3, 2011
PULLMAN, WA- UNLV came to Martin Stadium this time around, as the Washington State Cougars opened up the 2011 season with high hopes. Jared Karstetter returns after being injured for all of last year, and he returned with a bang. Midway through the first, Jeff Tuel found Karstetter on a corner route for 51 yards to put in the first score of the game.
Things were already looking good against a weak UNLV team. The offense was flowing, the defense forced some turnovers, it had the makings of a perfect game. Nearly a minute into the second quarter, UNLV throws a pick that is taken 43 yards by Tyree Toomer for a pick six! He edged out several players as he neared the goal line, but nonetheless, he crossed without any trouble.

UNLV would get a solid drive soon after that, culminating in a 1 yard TD run by their HB. However, their kicker missed the extra point, and eventually 2 other field goals, effectively killing off a lot of their momentum. Later, Isiah Barton would score on a huge 74 yard pass beating three defenders before heading to the end zone and putting WSU up comfortably 21-6 late in the second. Jump ahead to about :30 to go in the first half, Jeff Tuel throws an unnecessary pick in WSU territory. UNLV could have a chance to score just before the half ends and changing the entire game.
First 2 downs yielded an incompletion and a stuffed running play, leaving only 7 seconds left. UNLV goes all out, spreading the field. Snap the ball...The QB feels heavy pressure from WSU's front 4, eventually forcing a bad throw in the flats, where the ball lands in Daniel Simmons' hands who takes it back 74 yards for the second pick six of the game, that's more than WSU had all year in 2010.
Daniel Simmons celebrating on his way to the endzone as the first half expires.

WSU would hang on to win easily, 35-6 over UNLV. The Rebels fall to 0-2 and WSU goes to 1-0. The Cougars take on #17 Oregon next week at Martin Stadium.

Re: Washington State Cougars(NCAA 11)

Revenge Tastes Like Duck
Cougars Upset Ducks in Pac-10 Opener
vs
Martin Stadium, 8:00 PM. Pullman, Washington. September 10, 2011.
PULLMAN, WA - A beautiful fall evening in Pullman gave way to an incredible display on the football field. Washington State was looking for revenge after a 41-13 thrashing from Oregon last year, as the 17th ranked Ducks came to town. The game lacked offense early on, the punters probably saw more field time than the QBs!
Neither defense was willing to give an inch, but early in the second, Oregon broke the scoring drought with a solid 35 yard field goal to take the lead.
It wasn't much longer until WSU got on the board, when Jeff Tuel threw a long ball under pressure, finding who else but Jared Karstetter in stride. Karstetter found the end zone a few steps later, completing the 45 yard TD bomb. Oregon would get another field goal to narrow the score to 7-6 Cougs.

With under a minute to go in the first half, WSU wasn't being too risky knowing they'd get the ball to start the second. However, they were able to get within field goal range at around the 28 yard line. With around :40 to go, they handed it off to HB Carl Winston, who found some great blocking up the middle to go 28 yards, untouched, for 6! Washington State went into half time with a confident 14-6 lead.
A lackluster 3rd quarter would give way to an exciting 4th. WSU would score on a huge 3rd and goal pass play, 5 yards from Tuel to Barton. Barton dove across the back of the endzone to make the grab and give the Cougars a very comfortable 21-6 lead.

Isiah Barton makes it 21-6 early in the 4th quarter with an acrobatic catch.
Still, too much time remained and Oregon proved that on the following drive, that lasted 12 plays and culminated in a LaMichael James 7 yard TD run. Following the run, it was 21-12, Oregon had to go for the 2 point conversion to have a legitimate shot a coming back. Oregon went to the air, QB had plenty of time, had a man wide open in the end zone. But the pass was simply dropped by Senior WR Keanon Lowe.
Oregon would get 2 more drives to try and come back, including a missed field goal that had the distance, but just missed to the left on the first drive.
WSU would run the clock out in the final minute, giving way to a huge win, their first in conference play this year and improving the overall record to 2-0.

Love the thread. WSU is my 2nd favorite team next to BSU. Let's hope you can turn things around at WSU before you bolt to bigger and better things.

Thanks! WSU has been a team I've followed since I did my first dynasty with them back in NCAA 2003 and I thought it'd be cool to do one with them now, especially since they're nowhere near as good as they were then.
Things are looking good already, I hardly expected to beat Oregon, yet somehow things just fell into place. We'll see as the season progresses, it won't get any easier from this point forward.

lol yeah I know, the roster set I have isn't entirely re-worked so there are some inaccuracies that I haven't bothered to change.
