Re: Rebirth of the "Iron Dukes" a Duke Blue Devils Dynasty (ncaa 11)

A Surprisingly Close Battle
Duke looses a 28-21 heartbreaker to Alabama

WR Josh Trezvant provided an early spark to jump start Dukes offense.
Durham, NC -- A game in which nobody in the nation predicted would be as closley contested as it was. The Duke Blue Devils 2-1 (1-0) played host to the heavily favored Alabama Crimson Tide 2-1 (0-0). The Crimson Tide walked into Wallace Wade Stadium with complete arrogannce, this arrogance gave them the scare of their lives as they found thereselves in the middle of a very competetive and close game with the Blue Devils of Duke.
Early in the game, Alabama came out very aggresive jumping out to a 14-0 lead. Led by Heisman running back Mark Ingram who absolutly had his way with the Blue Devil defense. But Duke would answer right back with a touchdown, led by 4th string Wide Reciever Josh Trezvant. Trezvant was completly dominant, having mismatches as 'Bama would often stick linebackers on him gave him the oportunity to make plays. Trezvant who previously had trouble securing catches had his best game of the season, and on no better stage then against nationally ranked Alabama. Alabama, had put thier hopes behind back-up Quarterback A.J. McCarron as Starting QB Greg McElroy was out with an injury. McCarron showed moments of a poised and controlled Qb then as the game played out his inexperience showed when he threw an interception late in the 4th Quarter with only a 1 possesion lead. Duke then proceeded to make a valient attempt at a drive that was stalled on the 5 yard line thanks to a fumble from HB Scott. That funmble was recovered by Alabama and with a little over 1 minute left in the game they ran the clock out preserving a 28-21 win.

Coach Cutcliffe was asked on his team performance after the game, he had this to say "Well, everyone hates to lose. And its hard to talk about the positive in a loss. But I strongly Believe that we played our asses off. We left it all on the feild no doubt about it. I wouldnt have had my team play any different then they did today. Early we were scared, then as the game went on we realized that damn, you know what? we can play with these guys. We got after them and competed till the clock hit 0:00. And thats all a coach can ask for. Im Proud of my teams performance today, they battled and fought when the world was against us. But today the dice didnt roll in our favor and unfortunatly we loss a heartbreaker. But our season isn't over and we got alot of football to play."

Folling this loss Duke falls to 2-1 on the season and Alabama goes to 2-1 as well with a win. Dukes next game will be at home against the Black Knights of Army. Fans come out and support you Blue Devils!
