Week 2: Purdue Boilermakers vs Western Illinois Leathernecks Preview

1-0 vs

Western Illinois will be making their way to West Lafayette, IN to take on the 1-0 Purdue Boilermakers. Western Illinois is a FCS team. Purdue should have no troubles with this team.

Game Preview
After giving up almost 300 yards through the air to Notre Dame in week 1, Purdue is given an opponent in which they will be able to blitz heavily without having to worry about them finding open receivers.

As for Purdue's offense, they are coming into this game looking to their running game off the ground. They were held to just over 100 yards on the ground in Week 1. As a result of the lack of a running game the passing game really never got going to its full potential. Though Purdue gained close to 200 yards through the air they were only able to put points on the board because of the great help they got from their defense. On paper this shouldn't be a close game in any way.

Prediction: Purdue 52 Western Illinois 6

Week 3: Purdue Boilermakers vs Ball State Cardinals Preview

2-0 vs 1-1

Ball State will be making their way to West Lafayette, IN to take on the 2-0 Purdue Boilermakers. The Boilermakers are coming off a big win over Western Illinois. Whereas Ball State were the victims of an upset. Liberty upset Ball State 30-23 in an OT thriller. They will be looking to rebound from that embarrassing loss to an FCS team, but Purdue isn't going to make it easy for them.

Game Preview
Purdue is coming off the 77-0 victory over Western Illinois in week 2. They were able to show that they are able to run the ball effectively. They rushed for 307 yards. Bolden was the main runner on the day. He had 92 yards on 16 carries. Doesn't seem like that good of a day until you add in his 5 touchdowns. Purdue comes into this one with the #12 rushing offense in the country.

The passing game was more effective in week 2 as well. Unlike week 1 against Notre Dame, Purdue put up more then 200 yards through the air. Coming into the season Purdue was seen a pass heavy team. But so far after 2 games they have the #76 pass offense.

Ryan Kerrigan is going to a force once again in this game. He is going to be the main factor in shutting down the outside run of Ball State. He is also going to not let Ball State's qb sit in the pocket and pick apart his defense. Look for Kerrigan to get into the backfield often in this one.

Player to Watch: Purdue QB: Robert Marve

Prediction: Purdue 42 Ball State 13

Ball State came into West Lafayette looking for a huge upset. They came out very fast moving the ball with ease through the air against the young Boilermaker team. They marched all the way down to the Purdue 27 yard line. But the drive halted there as they took a gamble and went for it on 4th and 2, but were stopped in the backfield. Purdue took the ball and ran all over Ball State down to their 27 yard line where they were forced to take 3 points. 3-0 Purdue after 1.

In the 2nd the story was pretty much the same as the first. Ball State went right back to moving the ball through the air with ease. They got back into Purdue territory only to be halted again, but this time it a fumble that stopped the drive. Purdue continued to run the ball against the poor Ball State defense. Ralph Bolden would take it in off a swing pass from Robert Marve. 10-0 Purdue. Later in the 2nd Bolden would once again find the endzone this time on the ground from 14 yards out. At the half 17-0 Purdue.

The 2nd half was almost a mirror image of the 1st half. Ball State would continue to get deep into Purdue territory but would miss an opportunity and give the ball back to Purdue. Bolden capitalized on the Ball State mistakes, scoring two more touchdowns in the 2nd half. Bolden carried the ball 18 times and gained 169 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. Purdue improves to 3-0 on the year with the 31-0 win over Ball State. Toledo is up next for Purdue. That is their last non-conference game before Big 10 play starts up.
