2010 Offensive Preview

Quarterback: The biggest question on the team is who will be the starting QB at the end of the season. Coach Bo has stated that Zac Lee the senior signal caller will be getting most of the snaps at the beginning of the season but did not commit to saying that Lee was his going to be starting any games after the opener. Opening at 2nd string for the Cornhuskers is sophomore Cody Green. Green has great size at 6'4 and 225 pounds and has great ability to throw the deep ball, however he sometimes trusts his arm strength too much and makes bad decisions. Finally Coach Bo's possible QB of the future Taylor Martinez aka T-Mart is a redshirt Freshman that stands at 6'1 and weighs 210 pounds. T-Mart has a decent arm but Coach Bo is impressed with his ability to run the ball. Don't be surprised to see multiple QBs in the early games of the season however by mid-season Coach Bo said that he will want to give the team stability and have one man running the show.
Grade-B

Running Back: Roy Helu is the unquestioned starter at Half-back he is also the offensive team captain. He is a 6' 220lb physical runner that will get in your face and run you over however he has enough burst to also run by you if he needs to. Rex Burkhead is Helu's backup he is ten pounds lighter but also a little bit faster he is also a pretty physical back. Dntrayevous Robinson is the 3rd string back but don't expect him to get to many carries this year he is a 6'1 230lb dynamo that needs to develop more before Coach Bo will trust him in game situations. Braylon Heard the freshman speedster has been red-shirted for the season. The junior Tyler Legate will be handling the full-back duties he is a pretty good blocker that will get the job done most of the time.
Grade-B+

Wide Receivers:Niles Paul is the most veteran receiver on the squad he has some good speed and looks the be the deep ball threat for whoever is going to be throwing the ball. Brandon Kinnie while not the speedster that Paul can be is 6'3 and 220lbs providing a big target for the QB to go to. Rounding out the core are the slot receivers, Mike McNeill and Curenski Gilleylen. McNeill might have the best hands on the team and offers another big target at 6'4 235 while CG is more of a burner and might be the fastest player on the team. At tight end Senior Dreu Young(6'4 255) is number one however with multiple two tight end and even three tight end sets be ready to see Ben Cotton(6'6 255) and Kyler Reed(6'3 230) get time. All of the tight ends are pretty athletic with decent hands and decent blocking ability.
Grade-B

O-Line: From left to right Mike Smith, Keith Williams, Mike Caputo, Ricky Henry, and Marcel Jones offer decent ability but nothing too troubling for opposing defenses hopefully the group grows as a unit as there is not too much depth at any of the positions.
Grade-C+

2010 Defensive Preview

D-Line: Cameron Meredith(6'4 265) and Pierre Allen(6'5 265) will both get the start at D-end. Allen can create havoc on the pass rush often inducing bad passes, while Meredith who is not quite as quick can also cause disruption. Jason ANkrah and Josh Williams will be the back-ups while they are not yet superstars they provide very capable 2nd stringers. The biggest loss on D for the Cornhuskers is for sure Ndamukong Suh who was invited to New York as a Heisman Finalist, his pupil Jared Crick(6'6 285) will need to be able to take over games like Suh did for this defense to be as good as last year's version. Baker Steinkuhler(6'6 290) will be the 2nd DT, while the back-ups will be Terrence Moore and Thaddeus Randle. For Nebraska to be able to make a run Allen and Crick will both have to be able to put up big numbers.
Grade-A

Linebackers: LOLB is the biggest question mark going into the season for the linebackers. Will the starting spot go to the bigger and more powerful Sean Fisher who is 6'6 235 or Matt Holt the faster smaller 6'0 210 junior. The question marks stop there though as Will Compton(6'2 225) will start in the middle and Junior Rs Mathew May(6'1 215) will start at ROLB. While it would probably be nice to have a better corp of 'backers Coach Bo said that the main job of these guys will be to clean up after the d-line and help a little in the passing game.
Grade-B

Secondary: Prince Amukamara(6'1 205) will be looked to to be a shutdown corner for the D this year starting opposite of Prince will be the junior 5'10 195 pounder Alfonzo Dennard. Senior Dejon Gomes will be handling the nickleback duties. Senior Ricky Thenarse(6'0 210) gets the start at free saftey while not the fastest player he uses his brains to make plays and is great in zone coverage. Finally sophomore PJ Smith gets the start at strong saftey he is 6'2 and 210 pounds he has pretty good speed and also plays zone defense very well so there will probably be a lot of cover 2 situations for the defense.
Grade-B+

Kicker/Punter:Senior Alex Henery will handle both duties with his powerful leg and mostly accurate he will be counted on when a special teams play is needed.
Grade:A

Big 12 Preview

East:
OSU looks like the team to beat after last season's Rose Bowl victory Terrelle Pryor looks to lead the team to another BCS game.

PSU with Daryl Clark gone there is a huge question mark at QB however there is some hope with Evan Royster back for his senior season.

Michigan entering another season of Rich Rod football he needs to have a good season if he expects to remain as head coach at Michigan.

Michigan State Sparty is always a dangerous team for an upset Greg Jones might be the best linebacker in the country.

Purdue Miami transfer Robert Marve will look to see if he can get Purdue back into a contending team.

Indiana looks like another bottom of the barrel team from Indiana if only they could get Antwaan Randle El back.

West:
Nebraska welcome to the new Big 12 lets see how well Coach Bo does being in a new conference with that said his team comes in as maybe the most athletic team in the league.

Iowa how will Kirk Ferentz team do this year will they be able to duplicate another BCS season?

Wisconsin John Clay last years Big Ten offensive player of the year is looking poised for another big year.

Minnesota first full year in their new stadium lets see how this affects this team being at home outside a dome.

Northwestern can QB Persa have a breakout season like last year's Kafka?

Illinois losing Arrelious Benn early to the draft and Juice Williams your two most athletic players can only hurt you.

Coach Bo was pleased with the opening day performance offensively however he did note that he would prefer to have thrown a shutout and allow less passing yards in his post-game press conference.
