A Carolina Panthers Dynasty: Blueprint for Greatness

Coach Fox Settles on his Depth Chart

By Turd Furgeson
Roar Senior Writer

Charlotte, N.C - Coach John Fox has settled on his depth chart and there aren't many surprises.

Aside from rookie Brandon LaFell beating out perennial underachiever and former USC standout Dwayne Jarrett for the starting job opposite Steve Smith, there really wasn't anything earth rattling.

We expected Matt Moore to win the starting quarterback job, and he did. He was clearly the best quarterback in camp at the moment, and he manages the game extremely well.

On the defensive line, coach Fox has said he implement a rotation of Tyler Brayton, Charles Johnson, Everette Brown and Greg Hardy at defensive end. At the defensive tackle spot Ed Johnson and Louis Leonard will see most of the playing time, with Tank Tyler and Nick Hayden getting some snaps.

Here is how the depth chart breaks down:

Despite winless preseason, Panthers confident

By Turd Furgerson
Roar Senior Writer

Charlotte, N.C - After finishing 0-4 in the preseason, coach John Fox and his staff weren't about to resort to gloom and doom.

Fox said after this mornings practice "Look, we start anew on Sunday and these guys know they need to show up to play. I'm not sugarcoating it for them, they know our performance in the preseason was unacceptable, they realize they need to step it up fast."

Quarterback Matt Moore added "Yea we need to take it up a notch or two, but this week in practice has been encouraging, guys are taking the preseason losses seriously and working toward correcting the issues. We have this fire about us right now we hope can carry over against the Giants"

On Sunday, the Panthers (0-0) travel to the New Meadowlands Stadium to face the Giants (0-0) in the stadiums first regular season game.

The Giants are coming off a less than stellar preseason performance, going 1-3. Both teams are relatively healthy heading into the season.

Injury Report
The Giants (0-0) will be without RG Chris Snee for the first three weeks of the season with a fracture toe, Coach Tom Coughlin said Mitch Petrus will fill in until Snee is fully healed.

The Panthers (0-0) do not have any players listed on their injury report.

vs.
20 9
Week One

East Rutherford, N.J - The Panthers opened their season with a 20-9 victory over the Giants, in a game where the rain came down from beginning to end.

Offense was hard to come by as both defenses created alot of pressure on the quarterback and pretty much held eachothers running backs in check.

The key for the Panthers was their redzone defense, holding the Giants to three field goals and a turnover on their four trips inside the 20.

The Panthers lost MLB Dan Connor to a torn labrum, and will miss the next four weeks.

Panthers look to build on week one performance

Turd Furgeson
Roar Senior Writer

Charlotte, N.C - The Panthers(1-0) are home for a week two matchup with the rival Bucacaneers(0-1), and look to get off to a 2-0 start.

Coach Fox is hoping that his running game can get it going early this week, especially Jonathan Stewart, who only averged 1.9 per carry for 30 yards against the Giants last week.

Fox said earlier today that "We live and die by the run game, we need it to be succesul if we plan on making a run this year. I have full confidence in Matt Moore's ability to put up points, but it's no secret that our bread and butter is the ground game"

When asked how the Buccaneers stack up against his run game he said "They have some solid young players on the defensive side and we should have our work cut out for us. It'll be a struggle, but our guys are up to the task."

The Buccaneers are coming off a 30-13 loss to the Browns in the opener, but held running backs James Harrison (8 att, 26 yards, 3.2avg) and James Davis (14 att, 10 yards, 0.7avg) in check all game.

Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris did point at this week that "Without being offensive to the two talented backs from Cleveland, these two guys in that Panthers backfield are another animal. It's hard to contain one of those guys alone, but containing both is what has kept me up everynight this week"

Re: A Carolina Panthers Dynasty: Blueprint for Greatness

AT
Week Two
20 - 13

Charlotte, N.C - It was something Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris preached all week in practice, stop the Panthers(1-1) ground attack and keep it close.

That's exactly what his team did today when the Buccaneers(1-1) held DeAngelo Williams to a measly 42 yards on 23 carries, although they did allow Jonathan Stewart to go for 70 yards on 15 carries, 21 of those coming on one rush.

Tampa Bay kept it close all game and was able to break a 13-13 tie with 1:20 left after Cadillac Williams scampered into the endzone for a 23 yard score. Carolina, behind Matt Moore managed to move the ball downfield to Tampa's 19 in the closing minute, but were unable to get the touchdown they needed to send the game into overtime.

To make it worse for the Panthers, they lost their defensive captain Jon Beason for the next 3 weeks with an abdominal tear. Coach Fox said after the game that "The tests revealed a tear and he's gonna be shelved for a couple weeks. It's tough, Jon's a great player but injuries are part of the game and every team has to deal with them. Now some of our backups will need to step it up."

The Panthers are now without LB's Dan Connor and Beason for the next two games, leaving rookie Eric Norwood and Jamar Williams as the starters alongside James Anderson.

Carolina hopes to rebound against Bengals

Turd Furgeson
Roar Senior Writer

Charlotte, N.C - The Panthers(1-1) host the Bengals(1-1) this week in Bank of America stadium.

The Bengals arrive in Charlotte fresh off a 21-10 win over Baltimore in week 2. They managed 400 yards of offense on the day and held the Ravens to only 247 total yards.

Bengals star wide receiver Chad Ochcocinco, who had 10 catch for 111 yards last week and now has 20 receptions, 270 yards and 2 TD's through two games was quoted as saying when asked if he could keep up this kind of production against Carolina "Why wouldn't I be able to? Did the Panthers sign Deion Sanders when I wasn't paying attention? Of course I can, and will continue this production. As a matter of fact I can do more."

The Panthers on the other hand, without starting linebackers Jon Beason and Dan Connor, are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Tampa Bay (1-1) in the final minutes of the game. They hope to get their heralded running game going against a team that has only allowed 63 yards on the ground through two games, it's going to be a challenge to say the least.

DeAngelo Williams said today "I'm trying not to get frustrated, but you can't help but be frustrated when things aren't going as expected, and you know you're not playing to your full ability. I just have to keep working hard and it will come, I know it will"

Bengals - J.T O'Sullivan - Out 4 weeks - Fractured Foot
