Re: A New Committment II: NFL Head Coach 09

Tue 4/28/2009 (90 days until training camp)
The NFL Draft is over, and every team in the league feels great about their draft. The Washington Redskins are no different, landing DT Thaddeus Cheeks and RB Kendrick House in the first round. House reminds is a little bit of the San Franscisco 49ers Frank Gore in that there are question marks due to injury, and reports out of his individual work outs indicate he may have lost a bit of lateral quickness. Everything worked out well for Gore, so the Redskins are banking on the same result out of House.

DE Emeka Mourning dropped a lot further than anyone would have guessed just a few months ago, after a terrible showing at the senior all star game, but the Redskins took a shot. If he lives up to what scouts expected of him before the All Star game, this could be the steal of the draft. CB Suger Dillon should be a solid #3 corner in time and will contribute on special teams, G Sylvan Thompson and QB LeMarcus Jackson are project players and will likely not see the field in 2009.

The Redskins landed several undrafted rookies immediately following the event; FB Mike Durfee, CB Marvin Barbour, DE Colby Carswell, P Marvin Potts, and RB Amos Kerry.

NOTE: Since OTAs and other team events are some of the few aspects of pro football not represented by NFL Head Coach 09, the game flies through 3 months in the span of about 2 minutes here. I'll be skipping forward to the start of training camp.

Re: A New Committment II: NFL Head Coach 09

Tue 7/21/2009 (6 days until training camp)
Washington Redskins Head Coach AJ Dembroski spoke with the press Monday morning to address the team's plans heading into training camp. Siting the number of inexperienced players on the team's roster, Dembroski predicted a "rough" season, but he felt the team could be competitive.

Asked if he would refer to this year as a rebuilding season, Dembroski responded, "No, you're always building, and you're always trying to win. Have we begun refreshing and renewing our roster? Yes. Have we done our best to eliminate excessive contracts? Yes. Are we less talented than we were before? Perhaps; but none of this is an excuse to not do everything you can to win football games."

Dembroski also announced that #4 overall pick, DT Thaddeus Cheeks, had signed a 5 year, $41.3 million dollar deal.

Washington Redskins Signings, Post Draft
Jacob Jeffries, 2nd year WR from Iowa State

Re: A New Committment II: NFL Head Coach 09

Tue 7/27/2009 (10 days until Preseason Week 1 (@ Indianapolis))
Training camp got underway yesterday for the Washington Redskins and it got underway without 1st round draft pick HB Kendrick House, who reportedly walked away from the table during negotiations last week and hasn't been in contact with team officials since. Head Coach AJ Dembroski declined to comment.

The Redskins made their final training camp roster additions last week and among them was WR Antonio Bryant. Bryant is expected to push Antwaan Randle El for playing time, and Randle El's cap number makes him a potential cut. This should be a tight race for the #4 WR spot.
