Re: A Georgia Bulldogs Dynasty

Weekly Interview with Head Coach Mark Richt

#25 vs. #18

Grant Beck: Hey coach. Thanks for being here.
Mark Richt: Good afternoon. Thanks for having me.
GB: How did you prepare for the 18th ranked team in the nation, the Arkansas Razorbacks?
MR: Well, defensively, we know that Ryan Mallett has a cannon arm, and can throw the ball accurately, so we're going to keep fresh legs in the secondary. Offensively, we want to get ahead quickly, so the defense won't have to start out the game with their backs against the wall.
GB: How did the team react when they dropped to number 25 in the coaches poll?
MR: They weren't happy to say the least. We put the poll up all around the school, and encouraged the student body to come out and support the team. They will definately be playing with a chip on their shoulder. Also, we will be having a blackout, because this is such a big game. It will put us at 2-0 in conference play, and that is huge in the SEC.
GB: A blackout? Last time you had that, Alabama beat you.
MR: Yes, but this is a new year, and a new team. Plus, we're playing with a chip on our shoulder. We are trying to prove all of the voters wrong.
GB: You haven't spoken much about recruiting this season. How is that going?
MR: Well, it's still early in the year. We've got a couple of recruits coming to visit us in Week 7, against the Vanderbilt Commodores. We are pretty high on most of our recruits list's.
GB: Week 7? Why so late?
MR: Because we ask the recruits what game they would like to come to, and also I like bringing them in near the end, so that they don't forget about our school.
GB: I like your philosiphy coach. Good luck against Arkansas, and I look forward to seeing you next week.
MR: Thanks Grant.

The Georgia Bulldogs take on the #18 Arkansas Razorbacks, this Saturday at 3:30 on CBS. I think it is going to be a shootout, because Arkansas has a gunslinger quarterback in Ryan Mallett, and Georgia has a balanced offense that can light up the scoreboard. Georgia, however, has been tested more though, since playing South Carolina, and Arkansas has had a pretty easy schedule. The stadium will be packed, because of the build up created by the athletes, coaches, and the blackout.

Weekly Player Interview: A.J. Green
Grant Beck: Hey A.J. Thanks for taking the time for this interview.
A.J. Green: Thanks for having me Grant.
GB: Are you getting frustrated, still not having any touchdowns this year?
AJ: No, as long as we're winning, I don't have a problem with not having a touchdown.
GB: How would you grade freshman quarterback, Aaron Murray's performance this year?
AJ: Well, he is going to be a very good quarterback, maybe even better than Matthew Stafford, but so far I would have to say a B-. He is a very good leader, and even though he is only a freshman, he takes control of the offense, and makes throws when he needs to.
GB: Wow, better than Matthew Stafford? That's saying alot.
AJ: Yeah, I played with Matt his junior year, and don't get me wrong, he was a great quarterback. Aaron has the arm strength, he just doesn't show it during games. By the time Aaron is a junior, unfortunately I will be gone, but he will be as good, if not better than Matt.
GB: Speaking of gone, will you be entering the NFL draft this year?
AJ: Honestly, I haven't though about it. I will do what is best for me and my family, but I definately want to bring a national title back to Athens.
GB: Okay AJ, thanks for your time.
AJ: Thanks for having me Grant.

Re: A Georgia Bulldogs Dynasty

Bulldogs win, but with a cost

Athens, GA - The Georgia Bulldogs got off to a slow start against the Arkansas Razorbacks. They only had 22 rushing yards on 14 attempts. It looked as if nothing was going to go the Dawgs' way. Georgia went into halftime, only leading by 10 points. Whatever Coach Richt said in the locker room got the Bulldogs fired up. They came out on the first play and ran an isolated pass to Kris Durham. It was a man coverage play, and one missed tackle later, Durham was celebrating in the end zone. Two plays after that, Brandon Boykin read a pass and took it to the house to put the Bulldogs up, 26 - 3. From there, it was all about the men in black. Coach Richt said after the game, "I am concerned with Blair missing all of these P.A.T.'s, it's just not like him."

Coach Richt's thoughts - First, I want to say, we caught a huge break when Ryan Mallett was sacked and injured on the first play of the game. If he was in there, this would have been a different game. However, I tip my hat to backup quarterback, Tyler Wilson. He played one heck of a ball game and would be a starter for most teams. The Razorbacks have a bright future ahead of them with all of that young talent. Now, my thoughts on how the game was.It wasn't the best performance by this team, but we showed up in the second half, and jumped ahead by a few touchdowns. Our offensive line did not create any running room for our running backs. Thankfully, they were saved by the performance of Aaron Murray. He was making NFL throws down the field. This is by far his best performance of the season. I recieved word that A.J. Green had a severe back spasm, and will be out indefinately.

Coach Bobo's thoughts - Aaron Murray played an excellent game. He was hitting recievers at will. As far as our offensive line play, well, let's just say it's going to be a long day Monday. Washaun had no holes, and he showed how great of a back he was, gaining 65 yards, on 21 carries. Kris (Durham) did one heck of a job, filling in for A.J. Let's hope he can keep it going for the rest of the year.

Coach Grantham's thoughts - Our defense had a pretty good performance. We stuffed the run at the line of scrimmage. Our linebackers did an excellent job of closing the holes. The linebackers just need to get better at coverage. There were multiple times that a slot reciever would be running wide open down the sideline, and our secondary would have to chase the recievers down. We will work on that this week a lot. If we can get that down, we will be the best defense in the country.

Notable Injuries
  • A.J. Green, UGA - back spasms, out at least four weeks
  • Ryan Mallet, ARK - Seperated Shoulder, out for season

This weeks matchup:

@

Weekly Interview with Head Coach Mark Richt
Grant Beck: Hey coach.
Mark Richt: Hey Grant.
GB: How has the team looked without A.J. Green?
MR: Well, everyone has looked good, except for our offensive line.
GB: What seems to be the problem?
MR: Well (laughs), they seem to have lost focus, and hang their heads too often. And as a coach, I believe that it all starts up front with your big men. Somethings got to give sooner or later, whether I have to make some changes or yell at them everyday to remember what their job is. Aaron Murray has been getting sacked way to much, causing him to throw a lot of interceptions, and we can't run the ball between the tackles, and without that you aren't going to be able to win in the SEC. I would say that about 75 % of his interceptions this year have not been his fault, which is why he is still our starting quarterback.
GB: How are you preparing for Mississippi State?
MR: There really isn't a way to prepare for the spread offense that they run. We have been running the fast paced offense that they run, and our defense has looked good. We've given up a few deep balls down the field, but other than that we have look good. We can't overlook this team, because they have a great head coach, and a young talented team. They are an explosive team, and can hit you with the big play at any time.
GB: Have you ever thought of running an offense like that at Georgia?
MR: No, but so many teams are switching to it, and it seems to work, so I could see us running it in the future with the right kind of players.
GB: One last question before I let you go. Do you have any news for next years schedule?
MR: Yes, as you know we have a contract to play Georgia Tech until 2016, and we have a home and home series with the Louisville Cardinals, but have not agreed to the years that we will play them. We are also talking to an ACC team that I am not allowed to name, because we have just started negotiating a home and home contract.
GB: Is there a timeline as to when we will know?
MR: No, but if we reach an agreement, we will let everyone know.
GB: Okay coach, thanks for your time.
MR: No problem. Thanks for having me.

Re: A Georgia Bulldogs Dynasty

Weekly Player Interview: Orson Charles

Grant Beck: Hey Orson. Glad to have an oppurtunity to interview a potential All American tight end.
Orson Charles: (laughs) Thanks for having me.
GB: How is the chemistry between you and Aaron Murray?
OC: It's great. We picked up where we left off at high school.
GB: Did you two talk about going to Georgia together?
OC: No. I think we both just liked it a lot. It's such a great school with such devoted fans and a great coaching staff.
GB: How was this weeks practice without A.J. Green?
OC: Well, it definately feels different, but we have such depth at the recievers position, our guys can pick up where A.J. left off.
GB: Are you excited to go up against such a good linebacker, in K.J. Wright?
OC: Definately, because I get a chance to say, "wow, I can't believe I had such a good game against an All SEC linebacker."
GB: Is the offense getting frustrated with the way the offensive line has been commiting so many penalties and not blocking very well?
OC: Well, it hasn't gotten to the point of arguing with each other, which I doubt it will because coach will hand out some suspensions, and probably kick some players off, but you can tell that the backfield is getting frustrated by their body language.
GB: Would you switch to offensive line?
OC: If coach wanted me to, and it put the team in a position to win, you bet.
GB: Thanks for your time, and good luck against Mississippi State.
OC: Thanks.

Re: A Georgia Bulldogs Dynasty

Not enough people are following this dynasty so i'll probably stop updating this one and start a new one or just quit altogether.
