Canton NFL

Because the history of the game is so important and also because I am a little disapointed because Madden 11 got rid of the Hall of Fame players, I am creating an NFL dynasty that includes some of the best. I took the ratings of Hall of Fame players from Madden 10 and created the players in 11 as well as adding a few favorites of my own. So the current NFL will add over 60 HOF players, in order for certain franchises not to dominate I have made the allocations even. Each team recieves one offensive and one defensive player on their roster and no more.

Here are the allocations:

Chicago Bears
Walter Payton HB
Dan Hampton DT

Cincinnati Bengals
Jim Thorpe HB
Bill George LB

Buffalo Bills
Thurman Thomas HB
Deacon Jones DE

Cleveland Browns
Otto Graham QB
Lemo Nomellini DT

Tampa Bay Bucs
Larry Csonka FB
Lee Roy Selmon DE

Arizona Cardinals
Ron Wehrli CB
Jackie Smith TE

San Diego Chargers
Dan Fouts QB
Fred Dean DE

Kansas City Chiefs
Jim Taylor FB
Derrick Thomas LB

Indianapolis Colts
John Mackey TE
Gino Marchetti DE

Dallas Cowboys
Tony Dorsett HB
Bob Lilly DT

Miami Dolphins
Bob Griese QB
Willie Davis DE

Philadelphia Eagles
Steve Van Buren HB
Chuck Bednarik LB

Atlanta Falcons
John Stallworth WR
Jack Ham LB

San Francisco 49ers
Joe Montana QB
Deion Sanders CB

New York Giants
Frank Gifford WR
Harry Carson LB

Jacksonville Jaguars
Fran Tarkenton QB
Mel Blount CB

New York Jets
Bob Hayes WR
Herb Adderley CB

Detoit Lions
Barry Sanders RB
Elvin Bethea DT

Green Bay Packers
Paul Hornung HB
Ray Nitschke LB

Carolina Panthers
Michael Irvin WR
Reggie White DE

New England Patriots
John Hannah G
Andre Tippett LB

Oakland Raiders
Fred Biletnikoff WR
Ted Hendricks LB

St. Louis Rams
Charlie Joiner WR
Jack Youngblood DT

Baltimore Ravens
Jan Stenerud K
Rod Woodson CB

Washington Redskins
Gale Sayers HB
Paul Krause S

New Orleans Saints
Jerry Rice WR
Rickey Jackson LB

Seattle Seahawks
Steve Largent WR
Mike Haynes CB

Pittsburgh Steelers
Franco Harris HB
Jack Lambert LB

Houston Texans
Earl Campbell HB
Randy White DT

Tennessee Titans
Paul Warfield WR
Mike Singletary LB

Minnesota Vikings
Chris Carter WR
Allan Page DT

So who improved the most? Who will win the rushing title? Defensive player of the year? and most of all, who will win it all?

Preseason News and Notes

Michael Irvin Breaks Hand

The Carolina Panthers recieved a hard blow to their chances this preseason when Michael Irvin became the first Hall Of Fame Player to go down with a significant injury. Michael Irvin broke his hand making a play in practice and will need 8 full weeks to heal. With Irvin missing half the season the Panthers offense is back to its mediocore self and will need veterans like Steve Smith to step up.

"Michael is one of the toughest players you could ever coach" said coach Fox this week, "but he cant catch the ball without his hands, its something we just have to sit back and let heal."

Irvin who practices harder then anyone will be healing but in the meantime will be a vocal leader on the sideline as the Panther chances in the division have definatelly fallen off.

Phillip Rivers The New Kurt Warner

The Arizona Cardinals wasted to time in signing free agent quarterback Phillip Rivers this week. Rivers was out of favor in San Diego after Dan Fouts was given the starting job. The Cardinals with weapons like Larry Fitzgerald needed a proven quarterback at the position and that is exactly what they got.

"Its a perfect fit" said Rivers upon his arrival at camp, "I now feel like we can build on what the super bowl team of a couple of years ago did."

Rivers fills in for retired quarterback Kurt Warner and the Cardinals may again be major players in the NFC West that have the likes of Joe Montana in the division.

Other Notes
  • Jack Lambert will miss the Steelers opening game after breaking his thumb this preseason. Lambert is keen on coming back for week two and has no intention of missing a prolonged period of time.
  • The Miami Dolphins signed free agent linebacker Keith Bulluck to upgrade their defense. Bullock was highly touted and will help replace Jerry Porter in sout beach.
  • The St. Louis Cardinals are giving Isaac Bruce another chance as he has made the final cut for the Rams and will open the season as a third wide reciever.
  • The Vikings and Saints open the season this week.

Saints Open Title Defense With Demolition Of Vikings

Minnesota Vikings (0-1)......7
New Orleans Saints (1-0).....35
player of the game: Drew Brees (18/25, 313 yards, 3 TD)

The New Orleans Saints saw their championship banner go up and then went out and put some hurt on the Minnesota Vikings. The Saints held Adrian Peterson to under 50 yards rushing and dominated the game on all phases. Brett Favre didnt turn the ball over but didnt look his best as he felt pressure and failed to sustain a long drive, the ability not to run the football was crucial.

The Saints offense was awesome. Piere Thomas ran for two touchdowns and 138 yards while Reggie Bush ran for 97 yards including a 25 yard run for a score. Jerry Rice only had two receptions for 58 yards but that was ok as he was not overly needed in the blowout. Drew Brees does a great job of sharing the wealth with everyone. Lance Moore and Devery Hernderson had touchdowns on the night.

"We had it all going tonight" said Sean Peyton, "the emotion of the night and the crowd carried us into the opening kick."

The Saints scored 14 points in the first quarter and never trailed in the game.

Chris Carter for the Vikings caught the only score for Minnesota on a 42 yard pass from Favre.

NFL WEEK 1

Thomas Fumble The Diffrence

Miami Dolphins (1-0)....14
Buffalo Bills (0-2)......7

Thurman Thomas fumbled and Channing Crowder picked up the loose ball to retrun in 89 yards for a touchdown as the Dolphins beat the Bills upstate New York.

Thomas ended the game with 72 yard rushing as was part of a wildcat package that saw him get most of his touches. Brian Griese played like Don Shula was the coach and only threw the ball 10 times but included was a 10 yard touchdown to Sal Fasano in the 4th quarter that put his team ahead. The Dolphin defense was impressive on the afternoon
-------------------------------------------------------------
Colt Comeback Downs Texans

Indianapolis Colts (1-0)......23
Houston Texans (0-1)..........20 OT

Down by four points with 1.25 left on the clock the Texans and Matt Schaub never quit. A 2 yard touchdown pass to Bo Scaife gave the homeside the temporary lead but Peyton Manning still had time to work.

Manning had a nice typical game despite the pressure including a 5 yard touchdown pass to John Mackey. Manning threw for 308 yards and two scores but more impressive led his team down the field and stopped the clock at the perfect time for Adam Viniateri to kick the tying field goal as time expired.

In overtime the Texans won the toss but Earl Campbell was having a tough day running the ball and ended wtih only 57 yards. Schaub went to the air and was intercepted sat the worse time by Deshea Townsend. Manning and the Colts added a firast down and Viniateri ended the close game with the winnint kick.

A tough loss for the Texans who really had high hopes of getting off to a fast start in the division.

NFL WEEK ONE

Cutler and Payton Carry Bears In Big Win

Chicago Bears (1-0)......34
Detroit Lions (0-1)......14

The Bears offense was all over the field on Sunday and it was the passing game and the running game that produce. Jay Cutler looked very comfortable as the Lions kept an extra man on the liner to watch Walter Payton. Payton ran for a 51 yard touchdown on a sweep to put the Bears up 10-0, he would end the game with 123 yards.

Cutler was in tuned and Greg Olsen was the player of the game with 8 receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Cutler ended up throwing for three scores and 323 yards. In truth the Lions really had little chance in this one. Barry Sanders had 68 yards on the other side of the ball and caught a 43 yard screen for a touchdown.

But at Soldier Field today, the Bears flexed their muscles.

Defensive Battle Goes to Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0).....10
Atlanta Falcons (0-1)..........7

A great game at Hines Field between tewo teams that smashed heads and played physical. The game went into the 4th quarter scoreless and Michael Turner as well as Franco Harris couldnt seem to get anything going.

The Falcons thought they had the chance but Matt Bryant missed a 43 yard field goal. On the very next play Franco took a handoff and burst up the middle past a huge hole and was gone. Franco rumbled 61 yards for the first touchdown showing everyone the value of a Hall of Famer.

The Falcons however were not done. Matt Ryan unleashed his arm and fired a 59 yard touchdown pass to Roddy White with close to tewo minutes remaining to tie the game. The Falcons defense then stoned the Steelers and forced a punt.

Eric Weems fielded the punt but after a few moves lost the ball at the worse possible time. A scramble proved to go the Steelers way and they had the ball at the perfect spot with 1:20 left to play. Jeff Reed then cooly stepped up and kicked a 35 yard field goal as time expired.

A great win for the Steelers.
