2010 NORTH TEXAS SCHEDULE

8/28 @ #3 TEXAS

9/4 @ #8 TCU

9/11 VS RICE

9/18 VS #25 HOUSTON

9/25 VS SMU

10/2 @ ARIZONA

10/9 @ UNLV

10/16 @ ARIZONA STATE

10/23 VS #5 BOISE STATE

10/30 @ SDSU

11/6 NEVADA

11/13 @ FRESNO STATE

With 4 Top-25 PreSeason teams including 3 in the Top-10, UNT strength of schedule ranks as one of the nation's best. Now the only question is can Coach Dodge lead this team enough wins to make it Bowl elgible.

Coach Dodge "I don't know if we have the talent to win 10 games, but I do think we can win 5-7, if we can stay injury free and keep our mistakes at a min"

EXPERTS DON'T SEE UNT AS A MWC POWER
(Projected order of finish)

Yeah. I hope Coach Todd Dodge doesn't mind dying in order to open the door for his brother.

I'll be following this for sure. Loved your Boise dynasty. Can't wait to see how Riley Dodge and Lance Dunbar do.

A NEW ERA IS BORN

WEEK 1

@ #3

GAME RECAP

UNT would struggle to get into a offensive groove in the 1st Quarter as SO QB Riley Dodge throws 2 Int's and the Longhorns ground attack was in full force as RB C. Johnson helps Texas to the 14-3 lead. North Texas would also be dealt a blow on offense as starting RB L. Dunbar was forced from the game after a huge hit that left him holding his left shoulder.

In the 2nd Quarter Texas would go to the air as G. Gibert connects on 2 TD passes (9 yd-M. Williams, and 19 yds to B. Mathews) and Riley Dodge would throw his 3rd INt of the game as this turned ugly quick (28-3) Finally UNT would get into the endzone as R. Dodge connects with M. Outlaw on a 39 yd TD strike (28-10). Texas would go back to the ground as C. Johnson runs in from 2 yds out to score his 3rd TD of the game with 1:46 to play. Again R. Dodge would lead his team down the field and with 54 seconds to play T. Dean kicked a 35 yd FG to make it (35-13) Most figured that with a 4 touchdown lead Coach Mack Brown would just run out the clock but after a 15 yd run by Johnson, Brown went to the air completing a 34 yd pass to set up a 24 yd FG with no time left on the clock (38-13)

Down by 4 scores, Coach Dodge's debut wasn't looking to good. At half time he preached fundementals and challenged his Defense to step up and make a play.

The Defense would deliver in the 3rd Quarter picking off G. Gibert twice and limiting the Longhorns to just a FG. Riley Dodge would find his favorite target (Jamal Jackson) 4 times on a key drive including a 32 yd TD pass with 3 minutes to play. Again the Defense would deliver with a 3 and out and T. Deans would come through with his 3rd FG of the night (24 yds out) to make it (41-23) at the end of the 3rd.

The 4th Quarter will go down in the history books as the Mean Green Defense played their hearts out. Forcing 4 punts and keeping the Longhorns out of the endzone. (Texas would kick a 32 yd FG to make it (44-23) Looking to make up for his mistakes QB Riley Dodge showed the nation and his dad what he was fully capable to do. Dodge would rush for 32 yds and throw 2 more Touchdowns both to Jamal Jackson (78 yds and 8 yds) plus set up a 2yd TD run by J. Hamilton as UNT cuts the lead to 44-43 with 2 minutes to play. Coach Dodge would hold up 2 fingers singaling for the 2pt play and Dodge would deliver hitting Outlaw to tie the game 44-44. Again the Defense would deliver forcing the punt and with 58 seconds to play, the Mean Green would take the field with a chance to win. Dodge would connect on 3/3 passes to get the ball to the 50. After a 2 yd run by Hamilton, Dodge again found Jackson cutting over the middle and with 4 seconds to play, Coach Dodge would sent T. Deans out to kick a 44 yd FG. The kick looked good but at the last second sailed left, as the Longhorns went wild. This game was going to Overtime!!!

North Texas would win the toss and elect to play Defense, and again the Defense would step up forcing the FG. Dodge would lead the offense onto the field with a chance to win, but a dropped pass by M. Outlaw on 3rd and 4 would force UNT to kick the FG. Deans would connect sending the game into Double OT. The Mean Green Offense would go first this time and Dodge would deliver hitting Jamal Jackson for this 4th TD of the game (13 yds). Texas would get their chance though but after 2 incompletes and a sack, the Longhorns were looking at a 4th down. Gilbert would drop back but the pressure would get to him as he throws the ball into the stands as North Texas upsets #3 Texas in Week 1 sending Longhorn fans home with sadness and disappointment.
FINAL SCORE UNT-54 TEXAS-47

Glad to have you along for the ride. As you will see it was a successful debut for Coach Dodge, but a struggle at first for both Riley and Dunbar.
