TEAM REPORT

DODGE AND JACKSON ARE IN THE RECORD BOOKS.

I am sure Riley Dodge made his dad proud on Sat night as he pass for a school best 551 yds in the Overtime win over the #3 Longhorns. With 3 1st half INT's, there were some whispers that SR QB N. Tune should've entered the game as Riley dealt with the emotions of losing his father just 1 month earlier.

The man who was on the other end of over half those yards was SR WR Jamal Jackson. Jackson finishe the night with 273 yds another school record well catching 14 balls. He also scored 4 TD's which is 1 TD shy of the record 5 TD's by Casy Fitzgerald in the 2007 game against Navy.

(Jackson was also named MWC POW)

L. DUNBAR TO START AGAINST TCU.
RB L. Dunbar rushed for 1400+ yds last year and 17 TD's but against Texas he was held to just 5 yds on 9 carries before leaving in the 1st Quarter with a left shoulder injury. However team doctors give him a clean bill of health as the Mean Green look to take on #8 TCU this week.

WR M. OUTLAW IN COACH DODGE'S DOGHOUSE
If you just look in the stat boxscore you would think SR WR M. Outlaw had a good game against Texas (6 catches 130 yds), but what you don't see is his 3 drops including 2 on 3rd downs, and that is what has him in the doghouse. SO W. Taylor and FR TE A. Fitzgerald are expected to get more PT in the 5 WR sets that were seen frequently on Sat.

TOP-25 RESULTS WEEK 1

#5 vs #4

With the changing of conferences, several teams had to make changes to their schedules. One of those teams was Boise State. Instead of playing #7 Virignia Tech on the road in Week 1 the Broncos instead went to #4 Oregon in a rematch of last year's Week 1 matchup.

The Broncos would destory the Ducks 42-23. With the win Boise State would move to #3 in the Top-25 Poll, well Oregon would drop to #12

#17 @ #22

LSU-6 UNC-23

"Les Miles has 1 foot out the door and a suitcase packed"

#8 vs

Like BSU, TCU had to change their schedule and instead of playing Oregon State, the Horn Frogs hosted a different Pac-10 team as TCU wins easily 40-10. Moving up to #6 in the Poll

#16 vs

Like TCU and BSU, Pitt aslo had a change in their schedule. Orginally planning on playing Utah, Pitt instead took on their MWC replacement ASU, and they would struggle as the Sun Devils pull off the upset 34-30 dropping the Panthers from the Top-25

GAME PREVIEW

After last week's upset win over #3 Texas, the North Texas Mean Green Machine rolled into Forth Worth with some swagger. Some believe that UNT will be able to use the loss of their beloved Coach to help them defeat 2 Top-25 opponents in back to back weeks. Well others believe that going up against the #6 Horn Frogs will give UNT the reality check they might need.

Keys to the victory on Offense- Cut down on turnovers, catch balls especially on 3rd down, establish a running game.

Keys to victory on Defense-Keep Dalton and Co, out of the endzone, create turnovers, stop the running game.

GAME RECAP

Like the Texas game, North Texas would struggle to get into a offensive rythem early and Riley Dodge would throw 2 Int's. Penalties however would kill TCU's chance to score as well as 2 different touchdown runs were called back due to clipping. The Mean Green's "D" would step up and force a fumble as well as the 1st Quarter ended with a 0-0 tie.

North Texas would actually get on the scoreboard first in this game as T. Deans connects on a 49 yd FG to make it (3-0), but TCU would drive down the field and A. Dalton would scramble in from 3 yds out to make it (7-3) with 6 minutes to play in the half. North Texas would try and establish the run game but after getting the ball past the 50 their drive would stall and T. Dean again would come out onto the field connecting on a 45 yd FG to make it (7-6) Again A. Dalton would why he is considered among the nation's best as he takes the Horn Frogs down the field capping off the drive with a 6yd TD pass to J. Young (14-6) with 2 minutes to play. Dodge would connect on 3/4 pass's but a key drop on 3rd and 8 would force T. Deans to come out and attempt yet another 49 yd FG. This time the kick would fall short and TCU would get the ball back with a minute to play. Not wanting to waste a scoring opportunity, QB A. Dalton would drive his team down the field and get them into Field Goal posistion with 3 seconds to play. The 36 yd FG was good as TCU takes the (17-6) lead into the half.

North Texas would get the ball to start the half, and Riley Dodge would take his team down the field to the 20 yd line before throwing his 3rd INT of the day as Tejay Johnson picks it off and runs 84 yds for the TD to make it (24-6) Finally with 4 minutes to play in the 3rd, North Texas would get their 1st TD as FB M. Mosley rumbles in from 3 yds out (24-13) After a huge defensive stop, NT would go to the ground again this time getting RB L. Dunbar his 1st TD of the season as he runs it in from 6 yds out to cut the lead to 4 (24-20) at the end of the Quarter.

Energized with the thought of another upset, the Mean Green "D" would again force a punt situation, but Riley Dodge would end their hopes of taking the lead throwing his 4th INT. The Horn Frogs would go the ground looking to run off some clock and E. Wesley would deliever with a 2 yd TD run to make it (31-20) Coach Dodge would remove his nephew at QB and replace him with SR N. Tune. Tune would start out well running 21 yds for a 1st down, then completing his first pass for 8 yds before throwing 6 incomplete including his own INT (the 5th of the game for NT). However the "D" would not give up and CB R. Hill would recover a E. Wesley fumble to give the ball back to the offense. With Tune struggling, Coach Dodge would reinsert Riley Dodge. On the 1st play he was sacked for a 5 yr loss. Then on 2nd and 15 he would find WR M. Outlaw wide open on the sideline, but the reciever would drop the pass, getting a automatic benching by Coach Dodge. After completing the 1st down on a pass to J. Jackson. Dodge would hit backup WR W. Taylor on a 11 yd slant to make it (31-26). NT would go for 2pt but Jackson would drop the pass.

North Texas would line up hoping for the onside kick recovery like in the Texas game, but instead the return team would hold on, and with only a 1:31 to play the feeling was this game was over. TCU however wasn't ready to just kneel the ball down, as A. Dalton hits WR J. Kealy on a 53 yd TD pass on a broken coverage play putting the Frogs up (38-26) with 30 seconds to play.
FINAL SCORE NORTH TEXAS-26 TCU-38

FS Tejay Johnson 10 tackles (8 solo) 2 INT's 1 returned 84 yds TD

POST GAME INTERVIEW

Coach Dodge "Yeah it's disappointing, I feel bad for the Defense. They played their hearts out and the Offense let them down. Do we have a Quarterback controversy? No we don't Riley is our guy, I know some people might think we should remove the redshirt from Derik Thompson, but I am not ready to give up on Riley yet and I think with the proper practice, that N. Tune can be a decent backup. He wasn't prepared to play tonight and it showed. TCU has a amazing defense and A. Dalton and E. Wesley are 2 very good players."

QB Riley Dodge "Did I try to hard? What do you think!!! I take full blame for my mistakes but the thing that upset's me is we still had a chance to win that game. If it wasn't for some key drop pass's and the inability to run the ball late in the game, I think we could've done it"

Forbes FIELD 2010 HOME OPENER

WEEK 3

(1-1) VS (1-1)

GAME PREVIEW

For the first time all year, North Texas would be playing at home and would be favored to win (7 point spread). Rice opened the year with a loss to Houston at home, before going on the road last week and pulling out the 18-17 win over La Tech.

The Eagles are coming off a disappointing loss to #6 TCU, but that road win over #3 Texas in Week 1 has fans excited here in Denton as close to 20,000 show up for the Home opener.

Coach Dodge "I am disappointed we couldn't sell out, especially being how we are playing a instate rival, but thats life. In Texas unless you are winning and winning big, some people are content with watching high school football on friday"

Key's to victory-Cut down in INT's. Establish the run (100 yds+) and catch the ball..

GAME RECAP

Neither team would start strong as fans got to know the punters on each team by first name. Finally with 4 minutes to play Rice put together a drive that took them down to the 6 yd line. Running out of a wildcat formation HB T. SMith hit L. Wilson on a slant pattern to give the Owls the (7-0) lead. UNT would get the ball and on the 1st play hand off to RB L. Dunbar who would break 3 tackles on his way to the endzone (73 yds) and the game was tied. (7-7). Rice however would answer right back as QB N. Fanuzzi destroyed the Mean Green secondary passing for 88 yds including a 1 yd strike to P. Randolph. (14-7)

North Texas would open the 2nd Quarter with a nice drive of their own as Riley Dodge hits Jamal Jackson for a 18 yd TD pass to tie the game (14-14), then 5 minutes later it was Dodge to Jackson again this time on a 3 yr Quick slant as the Eagles took the lead with 2 minutes to play in the half (21-14) After another huge stop by the Mean Green "D", the Eagles would get the ball back with 48 seconds to play. Again it was Dodge to Jackson setting up the 33 yd FG by T. Deans (24-14) However a pooched squib kick would leave Rice in excellent field posistion and after 2 completed passes. The Owls would line up for a 21 yd FG as time expired. (24-17)

Riley Dodge would start the 2nd half throwing his 2nd INT of the game and Rice would take advantage of the turnover as N. Fanuzzi hit D. Clark on a 16 yd pass to tie the game (24-24) North Texas would answer back though rushing for 2 TD's (1 yd by FB M. Mosley and 2 yd by L. Dunbar) as they take the 38-24 lead into the 4th.

QB N. Fanuzzi however would continue his solid play as he hit P Randolph on a 9 yd TD pass and helped set up a 25 yd FG by C. Boswell after a 3rd INT by Riley Dodge with 2:52 to play it was (38-34). UNT would stick to the ground looking to take as much time off the clock as possible but backup RB J. Hamilton would break a 19 yd run for the score with 1:20 to play making it (45-34) Again Fanuzzi would find success through the air and with with 30 seconds to play on a 3rd and 12 he finds RB S. McGuffie over the middle for a 14 yd TD pass (his 4th of the game). The 2pt play was good as the Owls got ready to line up the onside kick down (45-42) The Mean Green would recover the kick and after 2 kneel downs, the ball game was over.

FINAL SCORE NORTH TEXAS-45 RICE-42

QB N. Fanuzzi-32/53 470 yds 4 TD's

WR D. Clark 8 catches 119 yds 1 TD
WR P. Randolph 4 catches 32 yds 2 TD's
WR L. Wilson 2 catches 20 yds 1 TD

POST GAME INTERVIEW

Coach Dodge "It was ugly, very ugly, but it's still good to win, even if it is ugly. Fanuzzi destroyed our defense tonight. I felt like we got good preassure on him, but he was a warrior staying in the pocket making the pass and taking the hit.

I am really proud of how Dunbar ran tonight. Take away his 73 yds on his 1st carry and he still had a solid night. Riley and Jamall showed they can be one of the most dangerous duo's in College Football, but we still need to find another WR who can consistantly hold on to the ball. (Stradford-2 drops, A. Lott-1 drop)"

WEEKLY TEAM REPORT

RILEY DODGE #2 IN THE NATION IN PASSING YARDS
With 420 yds against ASU, Boise State's Kellen Moore overtook Riley for the most yards after week 3. (1244 vs 1190). Dodge also has another NCAA record and that being tied for the lead with the most INT for the first 3 weeks of thes season with 10 (Miss State C. Relf aslo has 10)

JACKSON'S 200 YD PERFORMANCE MAKES HIM #1
Another close battle for the top spot in the nation is at WR. However after Jamal Jackson's 2nd 200 yd performance he has taken a pretty good lead in the race for the #1 WR award. with 681 yds to A. Pettis (BSU) 451 yds. TCU's J Kerley is 3rd with 435.

Jackson is also tied with J. Boykin(VT) and Michigan's K. Kroger with the most TD receptions with 6.
FS D. COOK AMONG NATION'S BEST
The Offensive skills are not the only one's being noticed around the nation as JR FS Dawaylon Cook is tied with 16 solo tackles for #1 in the nation, and is 3rd in Total tackles with 26.

COACH DODGE LANDS HIS FIRST RECRUIT

Going into the year North Texas had very little needs, so Coach Dodge concentrated on finding players who wanted to be at Denton and had UNT high on their list. The move payed off as he lands a 2* CB in Week 3.
Rated #156 6'1 Deon Cleveland from Greenville TX was the 1st player to committ to the Mean Green. Cleveland was being recruited by (Rice, SMU, Baylor, Houston,Texas Tech and UTEP)
Coach Dodge on his new CB "Cleveland has great size and his a hard hitting CB. With 5 returning CB, we will probably redshirt Deon next year, but I expect him to be able to come in and challenge for a starting role in 2012 when we lose our top 3 corners."
