Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

For the 3rd straight year these 2 teams seperated by just 8 miles would meet for the Battle of the Palouse.

WSU would take a commanding 24-7 lead into the half as Idaho struggled to pass the ball through the air. Idaho would be the only team to get on the scoreboard in the 3rd Quarter as QB C. Halliday thew 2 INT's, but the newly revamped Cougar rushing attack would dominate the 4th Quarter as WSU scored 3 more TD's on the ground.

Coach Dodge Comments

I am very happy with today's results. Obvisouly to see us rush for 187 grounds was a great thing. I would love to see D. Williams step up and carry the ball 20-25 times a game, but he struggled missing most of the 1st half with back spasms. Hopefully the trainers can get that under control for next week when we face #12 Missouri. I was also very happy to see M. Wilson step up big in his 1st game back after sitting out last year as a redshirt. He has the big play ability that we grew to love with Barton. The Defense also stepped up big picking up 3 sacks and that huge INT that stopped a scoring drive.

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

Week 2 offered us 2 Top-25 loss's. Last year USF made noise in the BCS climbing all the way to #4 with a undefeated record during the regular season only to lose to in the CUSA Championship game. This year they won't have to wait that long for their dreams to end. The Bulls fell in to #6 Wisconsin 23-7 falling from #20 to #25.

#18 Florida made a statement beating instate rival #10 Miami 45-21. With the win the Gators move to #14, well the Hurricanes fall to #18

#19 Florida State keeps their dreams alive of finally making it back to a National Title game after beaing #13 West Virginia 23-7 as well. The Seminoles move up to #16 with the win well WVU falls to #19

Rutgers started the year #24 in the nation but lost to Wymoning falling out of the Top-25. They showed that ranking was probably overated was they lose for a 2nd straight week (32-31 to N. Illinois)

Arkansas State battled #8 Arkansas to the wire but the Razorbacks pulled it out winning 33-28

The Razborbacks were not the only Top 25 to struggle to win. #7 Virginia Tech aslo struggled kicking a FG with 39 seconds to play to beat ECU 24-21

TCU used back to back wins over FCS schools to propell them into the Top-25 at #24. Well Washington State sits at #29 after their win over Idaho.

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

(1-0) VS #12 (1-0)

The College Gameday crew was onhand in Pullman as the Cougars hosted #12 Missouri in Week 3. The Tigers defeated South Missouri State (FCS) 52-7 in Week 2. Making most believe this game would be a offensive shootout.

This game started out liking no one expected as both teams Defense stepped up in the 1st Quarter. Missouri would pick off C. Halliday 2 times, well the Tigers struggled to move the ball behind backup QB T. Gabbert who came in to replace starting QB J. Franklin after he was forced from the game with a back injury. (Tyler Gabbert is the little brother of former Tiger and Heisman winner Blaine Gabbert)

Gabbert would continue to struggle in the 2nd half as throws a "Pick 6" as Casey Locker returns the INT 33 yds for the first score of the game.
The Tigers would rebound quickly though as RB M. Murphy ties the game with a 5 yd run less then a minute later. C. Halliday would also continue to struggle as the throws his 3rd INT setting up another Murphy TD run, with just over 2 minutes to play in the half. Coach Dodge would make bold move benching his starting QB and putting in SO J. Roland. Roland would move the offense down field but on a 3rd an 4 from the 22 yd line, Roland's pass would be tipped as the Tiger "D" gets their 4th INT of the game. Gabbert looking to make the turnover count would take the field looking to put his team into FG range with less then a minute to play. Instead his ball would find the hands of A. Smith (27 yds) as Missouri takes a commanding 21-7 lead into the half.

After throwing 4 INT's in the first half, WSU looked to hold onto the ball as Donte Williams carried the ball 9 times before a pass was attempted. Then it was Williams again scoring on a 10 yd run to make it 21-14. The Cougar "D" would do their part holding the Tigers out of the endozne for the entire half as Mizz kicks 4 FG, but the Tigers "D" showed they too could make plays stopping the Cougars on 4th down forcing a turnover and then with 1:13 to play picking off another Halliday pass (4th INT) and again with 12 seconds to play (5th INT)

QB-C. Halliday-14/35 256 yd 5 INT
QB-J. Roland-2/5 29 yd 1 INT
RB-D. Williams-16 carries 59 yds (3.6 avg) 1 TD
RB-R. Mayfield/C. Winston/P. Smith-7 carries 11 yds
WR-B. Ratliff-5 rec 108 yds
WR-M. Wilson-4 rec 45 yds

QB T. Gabbert-11/21 199 yds 1 TD
RB M. Murphy-14 carries 62 yds 2 TD
WR A. Smith-6 rec 124 yds 1 TD
Tiger D-6 INT
PK-M. Williams 4/4 FG

Erin Andrews-Coach this was a bigtime game for you and your program. Hosting the #12 team in the nation. Does that make this loss even more disappointing then let's say a loss on the road?

Coach Dodge- I think anytime you get the opportunity to host a Top-25 on your own turf it's a big deal, so yeah when we lose the game like we did it's very disappointing.

EA-Coach in Week 1 you ran the ball very well. What kept you from using that same gameplan today?

CD-I don't feel like we did. We tried running the ball, but the Tigers "D" was ready then when we had to go to the air, they did a excellent job of disguising their coverage and creating INT's.

EA-Coach Conner Halliday threw 3 INT's in the 1st half which led to his benching. However you put him back in to start the 2nd half. Why?

CD-I felt like Conner was pressing to much. I felt like taking a series off would allow him to settle down and realize the entire team and myself are behind him.

EA-After his 4th INT in the 2nd half, why didn't you go back to Roland on the last series?

CD-Again because Conner his our leader and starting QB. He has the stronger of the 2 arms and I felt like if we were going to beat the Tigers "D" deep he was our best bet.

EA-So after his 5 INT performance are you saying he is your clearcut starter next week against #22 UCLA?

CD-Of course. We are going to continue to stick with our gameplan, working on balancing out our offense by getting all 4 RB's carries as well as throwing in J. Roland on a series here and there to get different looks.

EA-Okay Coach, well good luck with your game next week against the Bruins.

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

Week 3 continued to give us some bigtime games. Including #2 Alabama vs #8 Arkansas. Last week the Razorbacks struggled barely pulling out the win over Arkansas State, this week they wouldn't be so lucky as the Tide rolled them 52-10. With the win Alabama jumps over Michigan to take the #1 Ranking well the Hogs fall to #12.

Normally #7 Virginia Tech struggles in Week 1 however this time they showed they can struggle every week, after getting by ECU on a last second FG, the Hokies were not so lucky as they fell to ACC rival Georgia Tech 49-33. With the loss VT drops to #16 well GT moves into the Top-25 at #20.

Last year #15 Oregon climbed to #8 before losing back to back games in Week's 4 and 5. This year the Ducks wouldn't get the chance to make a move into the Top-10 as they fell 34-20 to #9 Tennessee. The Vols move to #7 after the win well the Ducks fall to #21.

#19 West Virginia looking to make up their 2nd week loss to FSU, took down #11 Washington 30-13 as both the Top-2 teams in the Pac-10 fall. WVU moves to #14 with the win and the UW drops to #17

Here is a look at the new Top-10

#1 Alabama
#2 Michigan
#3 Penn State
#4 Texas
#5 Ohio State
#6 Wisconsin
#7 Tennessee
#8 Oklahoma
#9 Missouri
#10 Auburn

Well I am not sure that much else could have been expected against such a strong team as Mizzou, but 5 Ints? Did Halliday forget that Crimson is the color that his teammates wear. And less than 50% passing, ouch!

Bounce back against Cal? Gotta win those conference games...

I am not sure what the issue is but Halliday is known for throwing INT's. For his career he has now thrown 24 TD and 24 INT. He has a 64 in Awareness, so I don't know if that is the issue or the fact I have QB Accuracy set at 15 for myself.

I actually have UCLA next on the road. They are ranked #19 so it's going to be a tough game. Then I return home in Week 5 against Utah, then at Oregon State before hosting Cal and Oregon in Week 7 and 8, then a bye week before hosting USC in Week 9.

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

(1-1) @ #19 (2-0)

The Bruins have started the year off with a bang defeating Western Michigan 42-21 in Week 1 and Oklahoma State 31-17 in Week 2 both on the road. So it was a sellout crowd as UCLA hosted WSU for the opening game of the year.

UCLA is lead by SR QB Darius Bell and SR RB Malcom Jones (6'0 229 lbs)

UCLA would get on the scoreboard early as RB M. Jones carries 3 defenders over the line with the ball on a 1 yd dive play. (7-0)

WSU would answer back in the 2nd Quarter as R. Mayfield scores from 2 yds out to tie the game (7-7) WSU would get a huge break recovering the fumble on the kickoff to help set up a 41 yd FG by R. Parrish at WSU takes the lead 10-7. However it was then all UCLA over the last 5 minutes of the half as M. Jones scores 2 more TD's (39 yds and 10 yds) and after a J. Roland INT, Darius Bell throws a 5 yd TD pass to R. Mcrae to make it 28-10 at the half.

Conner Halliday would show his big play ability hitting M. Wilson on a 87 TD bomb to open the half (28-17) but with a minute to play in the 3rd it was Bell to Mcrae (25 yds) as UCLA goes up (35-17) Playing in a hurry up offense, Halliday again would show his ability to make plays as he takes the Cougars 76 yds in 40 seconds capping the drive off with a 4 yd QB kepper to make it (35-24)

In the 4th Quarter both teams "D" showed up as UCLA forced WSU into 3 4th down situations as the Cougars failed to convert each time. The Cougar "D" would play well even though they spend alot of time on the field holding UCLA to just 2 FG's, but in the end WSU just couldn't find away to get back into the endzone.

QB C. Halliday 18/45 389 yds 1 TD
QB J. Roland-0/2 1 INT
RB D. Williams-13 carries 42 yds (3.2 Avg)
RB R. Mayfield-2 carries 10 yds 1 TD
WR AJ Brooks-7 rec 86 yds
WR M. Wilson-7 rec 171 yds
WR B. Ratliff-3 rec 109 yds

QB D. Bell-16/28 285 yds 2 TD
RB M. Jones-39 carries 156 yds 3 TD
WR J. Manning-5 rec 107 yds
WR R Mcrae-2 rec 30 yds 2 TD

I am disappointed with our play. We just didn't produce any points in the 2nd half. We had 6 huge drops 3 on 4th down and 3 on 3rd down. I don't know what to do.

Rushing-16 carries 52 yds 1 TD
Passing-9/25 115 yds 1 INT

Rushing-7 carries 8 yds
Passing-9/20 274 yds 1 TD
I realize we got away from the run, but our passing was successfull minus the drops and when you are down by 3 TD's you don't have much choice.

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

So far we have had 3 pretty exciting weeks of Football. Week 4 was no different as we highlight 2 Top-25 showdowns.

#13 VS #16

The Seminoles entered the game Avg 38 PPG, but the Hokies "D" was to much as Virginia Tech bounces back from their disappointing loss to G.T. with a 17-13 win. With the win V.T. jumps up 5 spots to #11, well FSU drops to #19

#11 VS #7

Tennessee was coming off a huge win over Oregon 34-20 well the Gators had just defeated instate rival Miami FL 45-21. Leading the nation in scoring at (52 PPG) Florida's Offense was just to much as they win 39-14 With the win, Florida takes Tennessee #7 spot in the Top-10 well the Vols fall to #13.

#8 VS

Notre Dame fell from the Top-25 after their Week 1 loss to rival Navy, but an amazing Defensive effort against the Sooners gave the Irish the victory 16-9 and a spot back in the Top-25 at #21. With the loss Oklahoma falls from the Top-10 down to #15.

The Top 5 teams remained unchanged this week. Missouri climbs up 1 spot to #8 with the Sooners loss, and Arkansas moves up 2 spots from #12 to #10 to get back into the Top-10.

WSU wasn't the only team to take on their 1st Conference loss as Week 4 offered matchups through the Conference.

#14 Stanford-38 Colorado-13
#16 Washington-35 Oregon State-10
USC-31 #21 Oregon-7

With the loss Oregon drops from the Top-25 for the 2nd straight year after back to back loses.
