BATTLE IN THE ISLANDS

#18 (8-3) @ (6-5)

GAME PREVIEW

With both teams already headed to a Bowl game, this game meant more to issues what where brewing off the field.

Since Coach Dodge's arrival, WSU had used the Hawaiin Islands as a hot bed of landing recruits (Pipeline State) with WSU having 6 players on the roster from Hawaii including WR's T. McCoy and R. Mack, plus having secured committments from 2 players in this years class. OLB D. DeAngelis and CB W. Jones.

GAME RECAP

WSU would play well in the 1st half taking a 17-9 lead. (Hawaii scored a TD but missed the 2pt coversion).

In the 2nd half, the Cougar "D" would shut down the Warriors (Rainbows) limiting them to just 2 FG's and C. Halliday would throw his 3rd TD pass of the day as WSU secured their 9th win of the season.

FINAL SCORE WSU-24 HAWAII-15

KEY PLAYERS

QB C. Halliday 23/41 332 yds 3 TD 2 INT
RB D. Williams-19 carries 58 yds (3.0 avg)
WR M. Wilson-12 rec 141 yds
TE C. Jackson-4 rec 110 yds 1 TD
Cougar "D"-4 INT's

POST GAME COMMENTS

It was great to see our Defense play so well. Hawaii did a great job of putting 8 guys in the box and stopping Donte Williams from having a good day, but Halliday came through and made some big throws when it counted. I probably shouldn't have kept the starters in so long and it did bite us in the butt when we lost CB/KR A. Patterson to a broken toe. He won't be able to play in the Bowl game now. Also starting Left Takle A. Reitnour has a broken tailbone and starting SS L. Burton has a broken hand. Both players claim they can play through the pain but at this point (listed as Probable and Questionable), I don't see them suiting up.

Weeks 1-10 gave us some great games and bigtime upsets. Week's 10-15 was not different.

#1 Michigan National Title dreams ended in Week 10 when they lost to unranked Nebraska 35-21, however they looked to get their revenge in Week 14 in Ann Arbor against the new #1 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ohio State however would pull out the 34-17 win and hold onto the #1 Ranking putting themselves back into the National Title game. North Carolina surprised the nation as they defeated Virginia Tech in Week 14 to stay undefeated (12-0) and earn the #2 Spot in the BCS Rankings. However they must beat #12 Maryland in the ACC Championship Game before they can start packing their bags.

The BYU Cougars beat previous undefeated Colorado State in Week 11 38-13 to secure the WAC Championship as well as remain undefeated (12-0) and finished the year #6 in the BCS securing a BCS At-Large berth.

Boise State needed Overtime to beat Northwestern in Week 15 (26-23) for their efforts the Broncos finished 11-1 and ranked #19 in the BCS, but a loss to Conferene Rival and MWC Champs #16 Fresno State (10-2, 8-0) leaving BSU head to the Poinsetta Bowl to take on a 6-6 Iowa Hawkeye team.

7 Teams will be going Bowling from the Pac-10 as Utah picked up their 6th win of the season over Colorado in Week 14.

(6-6) Utah vs (7-5) FIU

Oregon secured the Pac-10 Championship finishing the year 10-2 Overall and 8-1 in the Pac-10. They also finished #10 in the BCS Polls.

Tell me about it. I was very sad to see them lose to Fresno and not get a big time bowl. At least they should be able to beat Iowa. So hopefully Coach Pete has the working at getting back into the Top-25 PreSeason.

POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH DODGE

I am very proud of this team. We played hard all year and to be able to cap it off with a big win that gets us our 2nd Bowl victory plus a 10 win season is a huge statement for this program that just 3 years ago was the laughing stock of the Pac-10. I am so excited to see what the next chapter in WSU Cougar Football holds.
