Thanks. I played the National Title game tonight. Hope to get it posted tomorrow, but between the BSU game and watching the Apple Cup. Not sure how much time I will be at the computer.

Great job getting Washington State to the BCS National Championship! Also, looks like Wheeler had a pretty good Freshman season.

Good Evening and Welcome to the "College Football Awards" Show. I am your host Ryne Dezaron. The 2014 season was a exciting one, as the Washington Cougars dominated the season going a perfect 12-0 and claim the #2 spot in all 3 Polls earning a spot in the National Championship Game against #1 Alabama. The reason for that starts with 1 man on the Defense side of the ball.

RS SO Marlon Owens. Owens saw limited action as a Freshman for Boise State and decided to transfer North to WSU. After sitting out a year, Ownes burst onto the scene leading the Cougars Defense and the Nation with 16.5 Sacks. Owens also finished the year with 36 solo tackles (30 TFL) and had 3 Forced Fumbles.

For his efforts Owens takes home the Lombardi, Bednarik and Nagurski Tropheys, and was named to the NCAA All-American team as well as the Pac-10 1st Team All-Conference.

Owens wasn't the only Cougar to be noticed in the voting.

WR M. Wilson-90 rec 1553 yds 11 TD's

#1 vs #2

GAME PREVIEW

Playing for a National Title is nothing new to the University of Alabama. The Tide have 13 National Titles to the name, and most recently lost to Michigan in the 2012 game (38-24). This will mark on the 2nd time in school history that Washington State has made it to the Championship game but the first in over 100 yrs (won in 1915)

Some experts feel that Alabama took the easy road this year though. Even though the SEC is the most dominate conference in College Football, the Tide loaded their Non-Conference schedule with 3 FCS schools. Well their Washington State started the year playing Top-25 teams like Boise State and BYU. Never the less both teams are here now and ready to battle it out for the National Title.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

RS SO DE Marlon Owens vs FR RT Ian McLaughlin.

Owens was a force this year racking up a Nation leading 16.5 Sacks winning almost every trophey you can get.

McLaughlin was a SEC 2nd Teamer and NCAA All-American Freshman as he recorded 31 Pancakes and has given up only 5 sacks.

RS SR WR M. Wilson vs FR TE TJ "The" Deuce

Wilson has been a force this year catching 90 balls for 1553 yds and 11 TD's. He had broken 2 school records (most yards in a career and most receptions)

TJ "The" Deuce had a monster Freshman year winning the Mackey Award, being named to the 1st Team All-American, Freshman-All American, and 1st Team All-SEC, after catching 100 rec for 1338 yds and a outstanding 20 TD's.

RS SR QB C. Halliday vs SR W. A Atkins

Halliday has been amazing since coming to Pullman, where WSU had become somewhat of a QB factory with the likes of D. Bledsoe, Ryan Leaf, Jason Gesser, J. Tuel.

Halliday has a chance today to break the school record for most passing yards in a career, having already thrown for 3641 yds 30 TD and 12 INT this year.

Atkins played as a FR throwing for 1673 yds 13 TD's and 2 INT but then took a backseat as a SO and JR. Now a SR, Atkins had a breakout year and was named a NCAA All-American, throwing for 3848 yds 48 TD's and just 4 INT.

RS SR RB D. Williams vs RS SR RB J. Fowler.

Williams transfered from Oregon and broke onto the National spotlight rushing for 1216 yds and scoring 14 TD's as a JR last season. After missing 4 games to injury this season, Williams came in with fresh legs over the final 8 weeks of the season rushing for over 200 yds in 2 games and finishing the year with 986 yds and 13 TD's. With only 14 yds today he will break the 1000 yd mark yet again.

Fowler like Atkins didn't get a chance to start until his SR year but has made the most of it rushing for 1280 yds and scoring 13 TD's.

THE GAME RECAP

Alabama would get on the scoreboard 1st as J. Fowler breaks a run 74 yds for a TD. WSU would answer back as D. Williams runs in from 2 yds out to tie the game (7-7) Then with 2:42 to play in the 1st Q, ROLB C. Mizzell would pick up a fumble and go 49 yds for the score to put WSU up 14-7

The Tide would tie the game on a W. Atkins to D. Wright pass (6yds) but with 1:49 to play in the 2nd Q, D. Williams would run in his 2nd TD of the day (1 yd) to give WSU the lead. Alabama wasn't ready to give up though and with 25 seconds to play Atkins would hit R. Joseph with a 7yd scoring strike (21-21). Coach Dodge had 2 choices with 18 seconds to play. Run the ball and go into the locker room tied, or look for a big play to put some points on the board. He choose #2, and C. Halliday would hook up with R. Jiles on a 85 yd TD bomb to give WSU the the 28-21 lead going into the half.

Both teams would struggle on Offense in the 3rd Quarter as, Alabama turned the ball over with their 2nd Fumble and C. Halliday would throw a INT. Alabama would however get to FG's (46 yds and 29 yds) to make it 28-27 going into the 4th.

M. Wilson would show his big play ability taking a 8 yd pass over the middle 86 yds for paydirt to give WSU the 35-27 lead with 6:52 to play. Alabama would not go away and with 4 minutes to play Atkins would throw his 3rd TD pass of the game. The Tide would line up for 2pt to try and tie the game but the Cougar Defense was ready getting their 3rd Sack of the game to keep the lead (35-33) Coach Dodge knew that they needed to keep the ball out of the hands of Atkins and the Tide Offense, using D. Williams and C. Halliday to run 13 plays over 3 minutes that lead to Williams 3rd TD of the game from 2 yds out. WSU would go for 2pt to make it a 10pt game but miss making it 41-33 with 56 seconds to play. Alabama would get their chance to score quickly but R. Joseph would drop a 80 yd TD bomb, the the Tide would never recover as time would run out.
FINAL SCORE WSU-41 ALABAMA-33

POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH DODGE

Normally I am not a man short on words, but today is one of those days. I am so proud of how this team played this year. You couldn't have asked for a better end to this year. We have a great group of Seniors and they deserved to go out winners..
