Re: Not What Your Used To: A New England Patriots Franchise

Week Five Recap

Pats Luck Runs Out, Lose Close one in OT.

Tom Brady, disappointed after throwing his second interception of the day, this one in overtime.

Foxborough, MA--In their third overtime game of the season New England's luck would finally run out, in a 29-23 loss to Baltimore on Sunday. In the

Ravens WR Anquan Boldin catches an 77 yard TD pass early in the 1st half.
game Tom Brady would throw 2 interceptions the last of which came in overtime...Baltimore would win on the next play. The game in typical Patriots fashion saw 6 lead changes, and saw the Patriots down early 10-6 after Ravens QB Joe Flacco hit WR Anquan Bolidin deep for a 77 yard TD throw and catch. The score would be 10-6 going into the 2nd quarter, with New England getting little to nothing going offensively. All that would change 1:12 into the 2nd quarter, in which after a long drive Tom Brady would hit Justin Gage in the back of the endzone for a 9 yard TD, putting New England up 13-10.

The teams would trade field goals later in the quarter, with New England

Justin Gage catches a 41 yard TD as time expires in the second half.
hitting a 19 yard FG with just 1:46 left in the quarter. Baltimore would get the ball back, and about halfway through the drive Joe Flacco be intercepted by Tuly Banta-Cain deep in New England territory. Tom Brady would throw up a prayer with 0:02 seconds left in the half and have it be answered by Justin Gage who would catch his second TD of the day, this one a 41 yarder to put the Patriots up 23-13 going into halftime.

New England would get nothing going in the second half, as Baltimore's D would allow the Pats zero points after half time, with Baltimore scoring 10 of their own. One on a Todd Head 19 yard TD catch in the third, and the other a Billy Cundiff 38 yard FG with only 2:09 left in the game. The Patriots

Todd Heap strolls into the endzone after winning the game for the Ravens.
were prime to win yet another game in the final seconds...but it wouldn't be. The Patriots would get in position for a 49 yard Stephen Gostkowski FG, but after a false start by TE Rob Gronkowski, it would be moved back to a 54 yarder. Gostkowski would have the leg, but miss the FG just right in the 13 mph winds at Gillete stadium...sending the game into overtime. Baltimore would receive the ball first in overtime, but the Pats would force a quick 3 and out, the Pats were driving and almost in FG range on the ensuing drive, when Tom Brady's screen pass to Brandon Tate wold be tipped and intercepted by Ladarius Webb. Baltimore would win the game on the very next play, on a 41 yard Todd Head from Joe Flacco TD. Handing the Patriots their first loss of the season, and propelling the Ravens to 5-1.

Re: Not What Your Used To: A New England Patriots Franchise

Week Six Preview

In a battle bewtween two of the top 5 offenses in the NFL New England travels to San Diego to square off against the 5-1 Chargers. San Diego has been lighting it up offensively, scoring 26.6 PPG, second to only the Patriots. The Chargers also much like New England have struggled on the defensive side of the ball, The Chargers are 23rd in overall D and 28th against the pass. In what is sure to be a shoot out, each team will have to win a few key matchups.

Key Match-ups:
  • Tom Brady vs Himself
Tom Brady is not his usual cool and collective self. Brady usually in the top 5 in virtually every passing category is only 7th in passer rating, 9th in TD's and 12th in completion percentage. The Patriots will need Brady to put up a lot of points if they want to win against the high flying Chargers.

  • Patrick Chung vs Antonio Gates
The Patriots young safety has been playing at a pro-bowl level thus far this season, but is in for a big challenge this week with Antonio Gates. Gates is the premeir TE in the NFL and Chung will need to hold his own against the All-Pro if the Patriots plan on keeping up with San Diego.
Malcom Floyd vs Devin McCourty

The surprise player out of San Diego has been WR Malcom Floyd. Floyd is currently 3rd in the NFL in receptions only to Pats WR Wes Welker and Reggie Wayne. Floyd has added 496 yards to his 39 catches and 5 TD's and has been the Chargers best weapon, but McCourty has been playing shut down ball as of late. Despite the loss not a single catch was allowed by McCourty last week, as the only catch made by WR Anquan Boldin was in coverage by Patriots back up safety Myron Rolle who was released by the team on Monday.

Prediction:

Re: Not What Your Used To: A New England Patriots Franchise

So here's the deal, I really wanted to just get this franchise into the playoffs, and then into the off season so over the last 2 days i have played the remaining 11 games on my schedule. I'm going to do a quick update of the scores, and leaders along with some other things. Then we can get to the playoffs.

I like the effort you put into conveying the details in your updates. If I may offer a suggestion, take all of the photos from head on, rather than at a side angle like you did with this one:

I'm interested in seeing what direction you take the Patriots franchise in with this.
