Detroit Lions Missing After Trip to Bermuda
Lions last seen flying over the "Bermuda Triangle"
April 29, 2010

After a 2-14 season, Lions' head coach Jim Schwarts thought it would be a good idea to take the team and coaching staff on a vacation to help build chemistry and get some relaxation before the start of training camp and the 2010 season. Something told Schwarts to take the team to the little island of Bermuda which is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Little did the team know that this vacation would be the last time they were ever heard from again.

At 12:43 PM on Wednesday, April 28th, all signals with the private plane carrying the team to the town of Hamilton on the island of Bermuda was lost. The plane phones and connection with the pilots became soft fuzz and panic began to set in. Soon after the signals were lost, the coast guard and helicopters were on the scene looking for evidence on exactly what happened, but when nothing was found and questions began to arise. What happened to the connections? Did the plane crash? Where were the Detroit Lions?

Bermuda is a secluded island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but is most know for its mysterious connection in the "Bermuda Triangle." Mainly thought of as a myth, the "Triangle" is known for planes or boats that never seem to make it out of its imaginary boundaries. These supernatural occurrences have been allegedly happening for years and it seem to be alive and still kicking to this very day.

Once news of the disappearance hit the mainland, panic and questions arose. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had many thoughts racing through his head as he was bombarded with questions of the leagues future, new teams or even if there would be a season in 2010. Goodell did address the media but made it short and to the point.

"There will be football in 2010. As more information of the disappearance and the future of the league come out, I will be sure to comment at a later time."

Goodell seemed very nervous at his press conference which led reporters to think he was withholding information. Whatever the case maybe, news of the Lions and the league have led to a ton of discussion on whether or not the team would be saved and return home. As the search continues, prayers and hearts go out to all involved in the disappearance.

The coming days and weeks look to be packed with information, questions and anything else related to the "Bermuda Triangle" disappearance or the future of the league. If the team has truly vanished and Goodell said there will be football, what does that mean for the NFL? A new team? A smaller league? A Lions team with new faces? All of these questions will be answered and with the season mere months away, it better be quick.

Creative angle. Potential for some unique storylines (some players finally being found, Matt Stafford coming back a volleyball for a best friend, etc). I'll be keeping an eye on where you go with this.

Goodell Unveils Big News to Press
One week after Lions disappearance, Goodell speaks
May 5, 2010

It has been one week since the mysterious disappearance of the Detroit Lions and with little evidence of where they may be, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell held a press conference to announce some big news for the upcoming 2010 season. This news shocked the sporting world and proves to be an exciting, yet rough, journey in the coming months.

Goodell started the press conference off with a moment of silence for the missing Lions and then cut right to the chase of why he gathered everyone together. "As I've said before, there will be football in 2010. It is under unfortunate circumstances that I announce we will be adding a new football team to the regular 32 team format and will place it in the NFC North division."

The location of the new team is unknown, but Goodell stated the team will be decided upon in the next couple of days. Kentucky, Iowa and Michigan are all the leading states that could use a NFL team and also fit inside the area of the other NFC North teams. Each location has pros and cons, but the decision must be made soon in order to get the coaching staff, players and all other necessities of a team finalized before the start of preseason.

Soon after the news of a new team was announced, former NFL defensive end and current Fox commentator Howie Long was soon on the phone making calls to the commissioner enquiring about a head coaching job for the new team. After an interview on ESPN, Long stated, "I'm getting sick of talking about what teams should do every Sunday. I want to get back on the field and as sad as the Lions situation is, it's open a big door for me to get back in there. Goodell didn't say much, so I really have no idea if I have an honest shot."

There will be many candidates for the new head coach of the NFL's new team, but whoever it will be has a tough road ahead of them. In Goodell's press conference, he also when on to say that the new team will not be an expansion team and a draft will not be held. He is looking to sign undrafted college students. Once the team is finalized, the building process can begin. Until then, we have to wait and see what Goodell’s next step is.

Football Comes to Davenport
Professional sports arrive in Iowa
May 10, 2010

Few days after commissioner Roger Goodell announces there will be a new football team to join the ranks of the NFL, news broke of the teams location and the commissioner decided to send the team to Davenport, Iowa. Located just on the boarder of Iowa and Illinois, Davenport seemed to be the best location to being a new football franchise.

Until now, Iowa has not had the privilege of having a professional sports team. Football, basketball and baseball has always been focused around the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, but now the NFL is pleased to announced the Davenport Sharks. Davenport is one of Iowa's bigger cities and is not close to the college cities of Iowa City or Ames and that is why Goodell decided to place the team there.

"We have thought about which location would best benefit the league and pull in the most fans," stated Goodell. "Iowa is know for it's huge fan base of their beloved college teams, so we thought it would be an easy transition to the professional level."

In order to pay homage to the Lions' disappearance, the Sharks logo, uniform, and team colors will match the same color scheme as the Detroit Lions. Reebok will provide the uniforms for Davenport and will add a small Detroit Lion logo on the back of each jersey.

The Sharks will play their preseason and regular season games for the 2010 football season at Iowa University's Kinnick Stadium. Iowa's president Sally Mason was more than welcome to the idea. "We would be more than happy to host the Sharks in their inaugural season," stated Mason. "It was so unfortunate about what happened on that plane and a few of our alums were on that flight. So we can do whatever it takes to help because we believe that's what our alumnus would like."

The Lions featured two Iowa Hawkeye's players in defensive end Jared DeVries and corner back Amari Spievey. President Mason also stated that both players numbers will be retired at the Hawkeye's first home game of the 2010 season.

So there you have it. Football has come to Iowa and the Davenport Sharks are ready to begin building their team. Davenport's next move should be to find a head coach and Goodell seems to be narrowing in on his selection. More news of the Sharks will come in the next few days.

Breaking News: Detroit Lions Plane Recovered
Plane found floating off the cost of Puerto Rico
May 12, 2010

It would only be time before some clue or evidence of the tragic Detroit Lions' plane disappearance would surface and it literally did last night as the plane that was carrying the team showed up off the coast of Puerto Rico. Officials on the scene were amazed at what they saw.

FBI head director
Robert S. Mueller made a statement late last night of the found plane. Here is what he said.

"Upon getting the plane on land and confirming its identity, we boarded the plane and were shocked to see no one. No one, living or deceased, were aboard the plane that included the players of the Detroit Lions, it's coaching staff or the pilots. Strangely, all luggage and personal property were left untouched and unmoved.

We have recovered clothing, cell phones, mp3 players and a variety of other personal effects and have brought them in for evidence. We are currently looking for more information of what may have transpired on that tragic day. We will be sure to report with whatever we can find from the plane and any other news we receive."

Speculation has begun on to what happened to the players and coaches of the Detroit Lions. Why wouldn't anyone grab something anything if the plane was going down? There seems to be a missing piece of the puzzle and as the FBI continues it's investigation, answers are sure to follow.
