Chiefs Overhaul Front Office In Midst of Scandal

Kansas City - The Kansas City Chiefs today accepted the resignation of General Manager Scott Pioli and Head Coach Todd Haley after it was discovered that Brett Favre sent them several text messages and pictures of his private parts in an attempt to seduce the duo into a warped romantic rendezvous.

Until a similar tactic used on former New York Jets employee Jenn Sterger, it appears both Pioli and Haley were receptive to Favre's overtures.

Meanwhile, left shellshocked, the Chiefs have replaced both men with one man, virtually unknown Canadian Demery Thomas.

"It is every person's dream to be a part of their favorite football team," Thomas said. "Today, I start living that dream. I have a firm plan to get this team to the top of the NFL. We have some very good pieces here today, and will be looking to add more through free agency and especially through the draft."

Thomas also said he hopes that players and fans can put this strange offseason behind them and focus on the upcoming season, which starts with a Monday Night matchup with division rival San Diego.

Volek's Late Heroics Lead Chargers Past Chiefs
Backup QB's TD With 0:37 Left Wins It

Kansas City - Billy Volek's touchdown pass to Malcom Floyd with 37 seconds left in regulation lifted the San Diego Chargers past the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 to open the NFL season on Monday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

Volek, playing after Phillip Rivers was knocked out of the game late in the third quarter, led his team on a 6 play, 34 yard drive in the final minute after Darren Sproles had returned a kickoff back to the Chiefs 34 yard line. Ryan Succop had kicked a 50 yard field goal with 1:46 remaining to give the Chiefs a 20-17 lead before Sproles returned the kickoff and set up Volek's touchdown drive.

Matt Cassel and Jamaal Charles struggled mightily for the Chiefs (0-1). Cassel completed just over 41% of his passes (12 of 29) for 206 yards and a touchdown, while Charles was hounded all day by the San Diego defense, gaining only 16 yards on 13 carries.

It was revealed after the game that Philip Rivers will miss the next two weeks for San Diego with a sprained back.

The Chiefs now travel to Cleveland to play the Browns (1-0), who beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-19.
