Re: Oregon Ducks (NCAA 11)

Darron Thomas gets screwed by the C-USA Title game

Great season though, and every win against the Buckeyes is a good one.

Re: Oregon Ducks (NCAA 11)

Will LaMike fly to the NFL?
Oregon's 2000-yard man has a big decision looming

EUGENE, OR - With the 2010 season wrapped up and a newly minted Rose Bowl Championship Trophy sitting in the trophy case in Eugene, all eyes in the Oregon football program now turn towards the offseason. For the coaches, that means recruiting their tails off until the bell, preparing offseason workouts, and eventually the looming expectations for 2011.

For a few players, the future is much more immediate.

It's almost hard to imagine LaMichael James outperforming his 2010 numbers in 2011. 2003 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns are astronomical numbers, and considering the Ducks lose three starters from their offensive line, they are numbers unlikely to be duplicated.

That combined with the naturally short-term lifespan of a running back's career, and Oregon's explosive back may have played his final down as a Duck.

"It's a big decision, definitely," James said. "There are a lot of pros and cons I have to weigh."

James has been compared to Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans, even though he is slightly smaller than Johnson (5'11, 190 compared to 5'9, 185).

Other Ducks who have hinted they may at least test the draft waters to evaluate their prospects include QB Darron Thomas, DE Terrell Turner, and safeties John Boyett and Eddie Pleasant.

Re: Oregon Ducks (NCAA 11)

Ducks lose three
James, Turner and Pleasant fly to the pros

EUGENE, OR - It wasn't unexpected in the halls of the athletic department in Eugene, but that doesn't mean it's not painful. LaMichael James has donned the Oregon uniform for the final time.

The redshirt sophomore back made it official, announcing he is foregoing his final two years at Oregon in favor of the NFL Draft. Joining him as early entrants from the Ducks' roster are junior defensive end Terrell Turner and junior safety Eddie Pleasant.

James ran for 2003 yards and 24 touchdowns this past season. Turner had a breakout year with 62 tackles and 10 sacks. Pleasant won the Bednarik and Thorpe Awards while accumulating 93 tackles and five interceptions.

While losing James certainly hurts, it could've been worse for the Ducks on offense. Darron Thomas flirted with the idea of leaving, which would've been disastrous. And the Ducks remain loaded at running back with Kenjon Barner returning, Lache Seastrunk and Dontae Williams ready for action, and Shannon Scott coming in next year.

The losses of Pleasant and Turner, on the other hand, are not welcome news, as an Oregon defense that finished 112th nationally in yards allowed now faces the prospect of losing eight starters, including the entire defensive line. The "close but no cigar" recruiting battles the Ducks fought last year with Dominique Easley (Florida), Gabe King (Cal) and Owa Odighizuwa (UCLA) will come back to haunt them in 2011.

Re: Oregon Ducks (NCAA 11)

Ducks have their eyes on late bloomers
The final push in recruiting begins in earnest

EUGENE, OR - With 10 commitments in the 2011 class, the Ducks have about a dozen scholarships left to give out, and now in addition to the recruits they've been closing in on for months now, as per usual in recruiting, the post-bowl recruiting begins with a new batch of late blooming recruits bursting onto the scene, several of which have interest in the Ducks, and vice versa.

First, the recruits the Ducks are hoping to finish the deal with after weeks and months of courting:

4* WR Derrick Carter, Ruston (LA)
4* ATH Steven O'Donnell, Walnut Creek (CA)
3* TE Jason Gant, Lacey (WA)
3* JUCO TE Andrew Hall, South Gate (CA)
3* JUCO WR Dan Gilmore, Napa (CA)
3* DE Dion Bowling, Newark (CA)
3* LB Maurice McBride, Port Orchard (WA)

Other recruits the Ducks have been evaluating for some time now but haven't offered yet:

3* TE Alex Justice, Kingsbury (NV)
3* WR Michael Nicholson, Inglewood (CA)
3* WR Alex Joseph, El Cajon (CA)
3* LB Caleb Clayton, South Whittier (CA)
3* OT James Thompson, Newport (OR)

And finally, five newly minted recruits that the Ducks have initiated contact with and will no doubt pursue heavily in the final month leading up to National Signing Day:

4* SS Joel Little, Martinez (CA)
4* DE Lee Hickman, Canton (MI)
4* FS Sam McQueen, Hillsdale (MI)
4* OG Scott Lawrence, Shelbyville (TN)
4* CB Juan Grant, The Dalles (OR)
