Re: Cincinnati Bearcats (NCAA 11)

Ring the Bell!
Cincinnati keeps Victory Bell as defense knocks-out Miami (OH).

Cincinnati, OH -- After the Fresno St. game, Cincinnati coach Butch Jones said that the defense would have to step up because the offense will one day have a bad game.

Today was that day, and the defense did their part.

Led by a defensive line that had 7 sacks total, the Cincinnati Bearcats (#15 ESPN/USA Today, #11 AP) beat the Miami (OH) Redhawks to move to 5-0 on the year.

The offense came out flat in the first half, only scoring 10 points, and couldn't get it's rhythm going. Thankfully for them, their defense showed up to play. Led by Brandon Mills and his 4 sacks, the defense kept getting stop after stop.

"We just felt that we were better than them, and with it being a rivaly game at home, we wanted to make sure they knew who was the boss." Mills said after the game.

The offense finally got it going in the 2nd half, scoring 5 times in the half. Zach Collaros led the way, going 11-23 for 319 yds and 4 TDs.

After the game, Collaros spoke on what changed between halftime. "We just needed to get use to the weather. We let the rain affect us in our minds, and it slowed us down. Coach Jones said at halftime that the weather wasn't going to change anytime soon, so get use to it and play like we should."

Cincinnati now heads into Big East play and start off at Louisville next week.

Re: Cincinnati Bearcats (NCAA 11)

Zero'n In
Cincinnati gets close to gaining more recruits.

Cincinnati, OH -- Last weekend's game against Miami (OH) just didn't benefit the Bearcats to move up into the top 10, but it also helped in recruiting. Cincinnati had 11 visitors in for the game, and while not all of them came away impressed (4* MLB Mark Johnson and 4* DT Antonio Smith committed to Florida State and Ohio State respectively), Cincinnati either closed the deal on some players, or came real close.

3* OLB Justin Newsome came away very impressed from the defensive showing enough that he let his intentions known that Cincinnati is the place for him. "I didn't even wait long after the game to tell the coaches. I pulled Coach Jones aside after he was done talking to the team and the press and just told him this is where I want to be." said Newsome, the #27 OLB in the 2011 class from Glenbard West High School in Lombard, IL. "Just seeing the plays Walt and Maalik were making made me feel like that could be me real soon."

Justin's real strength is his ablility to play sideline to sideline, which has helped Glenbard West in another run to the state title game. It does deguises the fact that he isn't the best play recognizer, but as he gets older that will develop.

Some other players feeling real high on the Bearcats, but want some more time to think about their decision are 4* QB Willie Woodard and 4* DT Lionel Francis. Woodard, the #12 QB in the 2011 class (#196 OVR) from Lake Catholic High School in Cleveland, knows that with his speed, the spread offense can take advantage of that. "The coaches were telling me that they are trying to become a more balanced team, and my speed could help them." Woodard told us over the phone Monday. Willie has made it known that he would love to play from the time he steps on campus, but sitting behind a Heisman candidate in Zach Collaros might not be a bad idea. "I would love to step in school and play for the start, but I am going to compete wherever I go, and sitting behind a player like Zach isn't such a bad thing."

Francis, the #11 DT in the nation from Finneytown, OH, was very impressed by the way the defensive line played. "Brandon played a great game, and I couldn't help but think me and him side by side would do some real damage." Lionel main concerns are staying close to home and playing for a contender, both of which UC can offer. "Cincinnati is in the thick of the title picture again, and I want to play somewhere where holding the crystal ball is a possibility. Plus my family can come and see me play, and Cincinnati sits at the top right now."

Cincinnati's game on Friday against Louisville is a big one. A win would probably seal the deal for some recruits that UC is the place to be. A loss though, and not only will the dreams of a national title go down the drain, but some players might feel another school is their right fit.

Re: Cincinnati Bearcats (NCAA 11)

Tough as Nails
Running game wakes up as Bearcats keep the Keg of Nails.

Louisville, KY -- All year, Isaiah Pead and Darrin Williams could not get the running game going. Every team found a way to stuff the pair of running backs before they could started.

They finally broke loose Friday night.

The pair combined for 287 yds rushing, and combined with 3 straight fumbles for Louisville in the rainy weather, and #9 Cincinnati won a dog fight 33-28.

Pead, who led the way with 186 yds, spoke on how it felt to finally break loose. "Zach wasn't feeling it today, and the boys up front gave us the time to get to the second level. They really made everything possible."

The defense played a step below average, but that was all they needed. It looks as if the bye week helped them out, and if this is a sign of things to come, Cincinnati is for real.
