Re: Cincinnati Bearcats (NCAA 11)

Offense?
2 Defensive TDs helps Cincy squeak past Syracuse

Cincinnati, OH -- The main observation this season for the Bearcats has been the progression of the defense and the regression of the offense, and today's game couldn't have shown that any better.

Cincinnati won a closer-than-you-think game 35-14 in which 11 total turnovers were committed. Sloppy play all around plauged this game, and it took some defensive prowless to win the game.

Syracuse jumped out on UC first, with Torrey Ball scooping up an Isaiah Pead fumble and taking it back 28 yds to make it 7-0 for the Orange. Antwon Bailey then scored early in the 2nd to make it 14-0, and it looked like Cincinnati might not make it out alive.

Zach Collaros then hit Armon Binns for an 82 yd TD pass to shrink the lead to 7. About 40 seconds later, Collaros found Binns again on a slant and Binns took it 32 yds to tie the game and give UC all of the momentum.

That was the end of the good for Collaros. He went 12 for 26 for
224 yds and 2 TDs, but threw 3 interceptions. Head Coach Butch Jones at one point thought about pulling Collaros, but decided against it. Benched or not, Collaros' Heisman campaign is over for now, and his coach is very happy with that. saying after the game "Now he can focus fully on making decisions to win the game and not personal awards."

The turning point of the game was the 3rd quarter and how the defense stepped up. Midway through the quarter, Drey Frey tipped a ball and the intercepted it and took it back for a TD to make it 21-14. Then as the quarter was winding down, UC forced a fumble, and Camerron Cheatham took it 71 yds and make it 28-14. An Isaiah Pead TD run in the 4th put the game out the reach and Cincinnati continued it's perfect season.

Now is where the stretch is going to get tough. After the bye week, Cincy heads to Morgantown to face #21 West Virginia before games against Rutgers and UConn, before finishing up at home against #12 Pitt with what could be the de-facto Big East Championship game for a second straight year. If the Bearcats can somehow run the table, they might find theirselves in Glendale playing for a National Title.

Re: Cincinnati Bearcats (NCAA 11)

Mangum Makes It Eight!
West Virginia LB chooses Bearcats as they head to his home state.

Pinch, WV -- Leonard Mangum didn't want to waste any more time with the process, and the University of Cincinnati are delighted to have him on board.

In front of his high school peers in a special assembly, the 3* MLB committed to the Bearcats on Thursday. "I felt that Cincinnati gave me the love that I wanted, and at the end of the day that was my #1 concern." Mangum said as he answered questions from the press.

Only a few people can move like Mangum. At 6'3" 252 lbs, Mangum ran a 4.56 40 at Cincy's summer camp, and the coaches took notice. It's clear that he needs to work on his pursuit and the mental aspect of the game, but Mangum knows what he needs to do to improve.

"I just can't wait to get up there with Coach Jancek and pick his brain. I just want to learn as much as I can and improve my game."

Mangum will be at the game Saturday as the #4 Bearcats face the #19 Mountainneers, and it's been him vs his school since the decision.

"All my friends are like "You know they 'bout to lose on Saturday" and we just be going back and forth in good fun. It should be a great game."

Re: Cincinnati Bearcats (NCAA 11)

Climbing the Mountain
Last-second FG keeps Cincy's Dream Season Alive

Morgantown, WV -- The clock striked 0:00 and it sounded like a bomb had dropped on Milan Puskar Stadium. Players and fans just stood still in complete silence at what they had just witnessed. The only noise was coming from the away sideline and the one section in the stands with red and black on, and no one expected it to happen.

Despite a 292 yd performance from Noel Devine, #4 Cincinnati erased a 12-point 4th quarter deficit and Jake Rogers hit a 42 yd FG to win the game 39-36 and the Bearcats keep their chances of playing for a National Championship alive.

Cincinnati's defense had been giving up yards all year, but today they did not get those stops they were getting for the past month. After the game, Coach Butch Jones said the defense needs to go back to the drawing board. "Devine made us look silly today. No one could wrap him up. We are going to spend a lot of time this week hitting the sled and tackling dummy and hopefully show improvement for the rest of the year and not have this happen again."

Luckly, the Zach Collaros from the beginning of the year decided to show up. Collaros threw for 452 yds and 3 TDs, and it looks like a shootout is all it took for him to get his groove back. "I've let my teammates down the past couple of weeks, and I was pressing too much. Today I just played relaxed and it helped my performance."

The turning point of the game came in the 3rd quarter. After a Tyler Bitabcurt FG made it 26-14 WVU, the Mountaineer defense forced a quick 3 & Out and Cincy was forced to punt. Adrian Witty forced a fumble on the return though, and Camerron Cheatham scooped it up and scored to make it 26-21 and keep the game close.

DJ Woods finally returned from his PCL sprain and had 4 catches for 92 yds and a score, but it was clear he was slowed down by him injury still.

Now the Bearcats get ready to welcome Rutgers in their 2nd BlackOut game of the year.

Re: Cincinnati Bearcats (NCAA 11)

Good to see this going again.. That's a huge win for you guys. The only other team that could really make a run at you guys in your conference was West Virginia. Do you think you have the strength of schedule to make it to the BCS Championship or are you aiming for just a Big East championship and the Orange Bowl?
