Re: Hog Wild: Arkansas Razorback Dynasty
Arkansas Overcome Key Injuries, Win in Starkville Tyler Wilson came up big filling in for an injured Ryan Mallett Starkville, MS (AP) -- Although Arkansas left Starkville with a win, they also left with injuries to two key players. Quarterback Ryan Mallett was knocked out with a bruised shoulder after a long touchdown pass to Greg Childs in the first quarter. His status is uncertain for next week's game against LSU, but right now it looks like he will give it a go. The more critical injury came to star receiver Greg Childs in the fourth quarter. After making a catch Childs and being tackled Childs was slow to get up. X-rays showed Childs to have a broken elbow and will be out for the rest of the season. This touchdown pass came at a cost for Ryan Mallett, who was knocked out of the game after this play in the first quarter. The game was never really in doubt, though, as backup junior quarterback Tyler Wilson came in and torched the Mississippi State secondary. His favorite target on the day, tight end D.J. Williams, put up his 4th 200 yard game of the season, finding the endzone twice. Wilson was on the same page as his tight end all game long. Arkansas took a 24-10 lead into the locker room at halftime and never looked back. Wilson threw for 424 yards and 4 touchdowns in his first game seeing extensive playing time. Bobby Petrino "Losing Ryan stung, I'm not going to lie. But I'm really proud of Tyler and the way he kept the team in the game and didn't allow Mississippi State to come back. He showed a lot of poise tonight and it's nice to know we have a more than capable backup quarterback in case this happens again." Greg Childs will miss the rest of the season with a broken elbow, but was able to have a big game against Mississippi State.

Re: Hog Wild: Arkansas Razorback Dynasty
Mallett to Miss LSU Game Little Rock, AR (AP) -- If Arkansas wants to continue their bid to play for a national championship they will have to do so without their Heisman candidate quarterback Ryan Mallett. Mallett was knocked out of last week's game at Mississippi State with a strained shoulder and has not recovered enough to play this week against LSU. In his place will be junior quarterback Tyler Wilson who threw for 424 yards and 4 touchdowns in three quarters of action against Mississippi State. Arkansas will also be without their star wide receiver Greg Childs who broke his elbow against Mississippi State and will miss the rest of the season. Bobby Petrino: "Those are two big injuries to our two biggest playmakers on offense, but we feel like we still have players who can step in and fill in nicely for them. Things will be tougher but we still feel like we can win the game." Jake Bequette, arguably Arkansas' biggest playmaker on defense, who some thought would be back this week for the LSU game is also listed as doubtful and will not play this weekend. Yes, if Arkansas is going to win this Saturday, they are going to have to do so without all three of their impact players. It will truly be a test. Tale of the Tape Points Per Game: 49.4 (1st) Total Offense: 6,395 (1st) Rush Offense: 1,358 (39th) Pass Offense: 5,037 (1st) Total Defense: 3,603 (85th) Rush Defense: 1,062 (53rd) Pass Defense: 2,541 (90th) Turnover Diff: 5 (27th) Points Per Game: 18.3 (83rd) Total Offense: 2,940 (96th) Rush Offense: 1,194 (57th) Pass Offense: 1,746 (111th) Total Defense: 3,443 (72nd) Rush Defense: 1,193 (79th) Pass Defense: 2,250 (63rd) Turnover Diff: 1 (56th) "Arkansas will really miss Mallett and Childs. No team could sustain two injuries that big and not be hurt. However, this offense continued to roll last week after Mallett went down. LSU's defense has not been that great this year. While I think the game will be closer than it would be if Mallett was playing, I am still going with Arkansas in this one. "Listen up sweetheart. No Mallett, no Childs? No win for Arkansas. Arkansas is good, but losing two big playmakers like that right before their biggest rivalry game is going to be too much to overcome. Records never matter when these two get together and now the playing field is much more level. I'm going with the LSU Tigers to end Arkansas' national championship dreams! Re: Hog Wild: Arkansas Razorback Dynasty
Arkansas Outlasts LSU in OT EA Sports: NCAA Football 11 Photo Little Rock, AR (AP) -- Arkansas knew they would need to play well in order to win this game without their start quarterback Ryan Mallett. Filling in for Ryan Mallett was junior Tyler Wilson. Wilson had a rough game but did manage to pass for over 200 yards. Things started to look even more grim for Arkansas after Wilson went down with an injury in the second quarter and he would miss the rest of the game. Enter, Brandon Mitchell. Mitchell gave Arkansas an added dimension at the quarterback position as a threat to run the ball as well as throw it. Mitchell did not disappoint. While things did not look good early on for Arkansas, who trailed 31-20 in the fourth quarter, things started look up with this pass from Brandon Mitchell to Ben Cleveland in the fourth quarter. EA Sports: NCAA Football 11 Video Mitchell Hit Ben Cleveland for a 54 yard TD with 2:17 left in the 4th quarter. The touchdown and two point conversion gave Arkansas a 34-31 lead. LSU's next possession, trailing 34-31, would end after Jordan Jefferson was intercepted by Rudell Crim. However, the Tigers were not done yet. Knile Davis took a handoff from Mitchell with about 1:00 remaining in the game. Davis was able to bounce to the outside but that is when disaster struck. Cornerback Patrick Peterson would hit Davis, knock the ball lose, and scoop it up and take it to the house to give LSU a 37-34 lead after missing the extra point. Arkansas still had life. With 0:50 remaining, Mitchell would complete a series of long passes, and freshman kicker Z. Hocker kicked the game tying field goal to send it into overtime. EA Sports: NCAA Football 11 Photo Brandon Mitchell had no idea he would be called upon to lead Arkansas to a victory. Arkansas would get the ball first in overtime and only needed a few plays, and Brandon Mitchell gave Arkansas a 44-37 lead. LSU knew they needed a touchdown in order to keep their hopes alive. A nine yard screen pass on 1st down set up a 2nd and 1 on their next play. Jordan Jefferson lined up under center, took the snap, took a quick one step drop, threw to his left and... EA Sports: NCAA Football 11 Video Anthony Leon's pick-six in overtime sealed the game for Arkansas Leon: "I saw the quarterback get rid of it quick. He put some air under the pass and my eyes got wide as I ran under it. I adjusted to the ball and just made a play on it. I don't really remember much else, and before I knew it I was in the endzone celebrating with my team mates." Today the Razorbacks showed they can win, even with an injury depleted roster. Arkansas, a team who had not really been challenged this year, showed they could win ugly and they could win close. It truly is the mark of a great team. Player of the Game TE D.J. Re: Hog Wild: Arkansas Razorback Dynasty
Atlanta, GA (AP) -- Arkansas managed to escape their final game against LSU despite not having Ryan Mallett. This game, in their rematch with South Carolina, the Hogs will have their quarterback and be favored to win the first SEC Championship in school history. In their first matchup, a 62-27 drubbing by Arkansas, Mallett torched the Gamecock secondary for 563 yards and 3 touchdowns. In that game D.J. Williams caught 8 passes for 203 yards, and Jarius Wright caught 7 passes for 171 yards. Arkansas rolled up 739 yards of offense in their most explosive showing of the season. Steve Spurrier: "We threw everything in the book at them last time but it didn't matter. Our defense had a very poor showing but we hope we've fixed our problems. Arkansas has a great team and a great offense. We don't expect to shut them down but we are hoping we can slow them down this time."
