Re: Welcome to the Glass Bowl - Toledo Rockets Dynasty(NCAA 11)

Rockets Fall Short Against Northern Illinois

Kenny Stafford catches the lobbed pass in the corner of the end zone for 6
De Kalb, IL - It's been a rough year when it comes to road games for Toledo, even in their victories they have struggled far more than they have at home. But coming into a hostile stadium in De Kalb was maybe a little bit more confidence shaking than they had anticipated. From the start, the Toledo offense struggled to move the ball consistently and Austin Dantin failed to complete his first 7 passes, a trend that would continue the entire game as Dantin ended with 18/47, though he had 188 yards and 2 TDs, it was not enough to carry the Rockets to victory.
It was the third quarter, Toledo up 14-6, when NIU marches right down the field ending in a 7 yard TD pass. They go for two, but go for the end around and completely fake out the defense for the easy conversion. Tie ball game going into the fourth quarter of play. Both teams struggled to get a rhythm offensively, as they continued to punt back and forth, along with a good number of penalties. These two teams do not like each other, at all. When all looked well for the Toledo offense, backup QB Alex Pettee threw an interception and the defender was off to the races, untouched for a pick six and the lead.
NIU's Ward avoids being tackled by Pettee on his way to the game winning score

Toledo's final hopes were cut short on 4th down with :45 to go, around the 30 yard line in NIU territory when Austin Dantin was hit as he threw and the ball quickly hit the ground, a good 5 or 6 yards short of his intended target. Toledo suffers it's first conference loss of the year heading into the big rivalry game against 1-9 Bowling Green next week. Coach Sutton had little to say of the game except, "There are no words for what I am feeling right now from this loss. Completely speechless."
Meanwhile, in the face of defeat, Sophomore DE TJ Fatinikun broke the single season school record for number of sacks. The original record was 12.0, he recorded 2 sacks in this game to get him up to 13.0. He is a semi-finalist for the Nagurski Award and the Lombardi Award and is said to be the front runner in both by ESPN.

Re: Welcome to the Glass Bowl - Toledo Rockets Dynasty(NCAA 11)

Peace Pipe Returns to Toledo

Kenny Stafford evades a defender on his way to a 65 yard TD
Toledo, OH - Rivalries, what would college football be without them? The Battle of I-75, as they call it, is one rivalry filled with hate yet these two play for the Peace Pipe. The Peace Pipe trophy has spent the last three years at Bowling Green, Toledo was hoping to change that as they came in as 3 touchdown favorites against a 1-10, struggling Falcon team. This game was a lot closer than many had anticipated, especially with Toledo starting off on the wrong foot.
Early in the first, Austin Dantin is pressured out of the pocket where he throws a bad pass right to a defender who takes it to the house for six and the early lead for BG. Dantin would manage to recover later on with a few TD passes of his own, but the early struggles indicated this game was going to be close. Things became a lot tougher when BG executed a near perfect drive, wearing the Rockets defense thin with a no-huddle, quick passing attack. This made it 16-14 in the 4th, putting a lot of pressure on Toledo to get at least 3 to challenge the Falcons.
Only 25 seconds later, Dantin's favorite target Kenny Stafford ran a screen where he spun past a defender and was untouched the rest of the way for a 65 yard TD. Dantin surpassed 2,000 passing yards this season.
Toledo wins the Peace Pipe for the first time in over 3 years and improves to 8-3, 6-1 in the MAC. They also take the lead in the series, 16-15 since the beginning of the Peace Pipe trophy in 1980(the two have met on and off as rivals since 1919). DE A. Johnson for Toledo was named player of the game, with 4 TFL, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Toledo will play their final regular season game against Central Michigan, where all they have to do is win in order to put themselves in the MAC title game.
