Here is how the rating work so you can choose wisely. 20 point boost for strengths and 10 point reduced for weaknesses, things like injury and toughness get automatic 99's. Every rating starts at 65. So your strength ratings will be 85 and your weaknesses will be 55. If you choose speed as a weakness or strength, that counts for elusiveness,acceleration and speed. Same with catching(counts for spectacular catch and catch in traffic).
