Re: --Prowl and Howl - An ESU Timberwolves Dynasty-

MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH
ESU nearly comes back on BC

Zeigler‘s 96 yard KR TD got ESU the momentum

Chestnut Hill, Boston, Massachusetts - BC was coming into the game off a 41-0 win over FCS West. ESU was coming off a 63-21 loss in Michigan. BC would be heavily favored in the game. ESU and Coach Winters new that if they were to have any chance at all they needed to run the football effectively, something they were not able to do at the Big House.

When BC had to settle for a field goal to cap their opening 15 play, 73 yard drive it was considered a win for the Twolves. ESU would lose 2 yards and go three and out. ESU would get the ball back on a Brady interception but the drive would stall and result in a punt. BC held a 3-0 lead after the first.

Harris added to the lead when he broke several tackles en route to a 37 yard TD run. On third down Bentley would throw a pick and give BC the ball at the ESU 25. After a pass to the 9 Harris would run to the goal line before Rettig hit Lee for a short TD and a 17-0 lead. After forcing a fumble on a punt return ESU would take possession at the BC 20 but on the first play Frederick, in for the struggling Bentley, was picked in the end zone to give it right back. BC would capitalize on the drive, going the full 80 yards in 10 plays and capping it with another Harris TD on the ground. Rich Zeigler would steal the momentum for ESU with a 97 yard kick off return TD. After a missed point after the Timberwolves would trail 24-6 at the half. ESU had amassed 22 yards of total offense compared to BC’s 297.

Frederick would fare just as poorly as Bentley had, throwing his second pick on ESU’s first second half possession. Rettig would find Pantale for a 20 yard TD to make BC’s lead 31-6. Morgan capped a 7 play 66 yard drive with a short TD run but the conversion attempt was stuffed and the scoreboard read 31-12. BC’s ensuing drive ended when they coughed up the ball and ESU recovered at their 19. Griffin would het a 34 yard field goal after Frederick lost yards on a third down sack. BC would lose the ball again and Mack recovered it at the Wolves 32. Bower would break free on a streak route and Frederick hit him in stride for a 68 yard TD. Griffin made it a 9 point game with the PAT.

Zeigler would bring a BC punt back to their 38 to start ESU’s first possession of the 4th quarter. Morgan would get several carries to get them to the 26 and then Barry would line up at QB and run down to the 5 on a keeper. Griffin would hit a field goal a few plays later to make it 31-25. Another BC punt would result in Zeigler returning it to the BC 29. ESU would turn it over on downs at the 19 with 2:48 left to play. BC would pick up a few first downs on the ground and run out the clock to escape with a narrow victory.

“Do we have a quarterback controversy? The only controversy is that we don’t have a quarterback.” Frederick outplayed Bentley but was just 2-7 for 96 yards and a TD with a pair of interceptions. The bulk of it coming on the 68 yard bomb to Bower for the TD. Bentley was 1-6 for 10 yards and an interception, recording a QB rating of 0.0. Bright spots for ESU were freshman HB Marcus Morgan, who rushed for 51 yards on 11 carries after replacing the ineffective Pressley, and return man Rich Zeigler who racked up 150 kick return yards and a TD as well as 73 yards in punt returns.

Re: --Prowl and Howl - An ESU Timberwolves Dynasty-

ESU News

Jacksonville, Florida - Despite the fact that the ESU Timberwolves return to the FBS is only two weeks in rumors have begun to circulate that the school's AD and some of it's top boosters are upset with the direction that Coach Winters has taken with the schedule.

Winters opted to schedule several top tier schools including Michigan, Texas, Iowa and Georgia Tech. So far ESU is 0-2 with a 63-21 loss in Michigan and a 31-25 defeat in Chapel Hill.

"We need a schedule that can build the confidence of the kids, help bring in top recruits and keep the fan base interested." stated one anonymous booster. With the current schedule most experts predict 2-4 wins for the Timberwolves. Coach Winters was not available for comment but an unnamed assistant was quoted as saying: "The tougher the talent you play the quicker you need to improve and execute. We're learning a lot about the players we have."

Despite the opinion of the ESU Coaching staff pressure from the boosters is likely to result in a softer schedule next season. It is not clear if any long term contracts have been signed with current opponents. Following a week off ESU will travel to face Iowa. Iowa is currently 2-0 and ranked #9.

Way to make a comeback in the 2nd half. Down 24-6, your team could've packed it in. At least you made things interesting. To bad you couldn't get more going in the 4th Q.
