Re: Parting the Red Sea of Arrowhead Stadium - A KC Chiefs Dynasty
The Kansas City Chiefs have released HB Johnathan Duncan and TE Brad Cottam. We wish them luck in their future endeavors.
The Kansas City Chiefs would like to announce a trade with the San Francisco 49ers sending WR Kevin Robinson to the 49ers for a 4th and 7th round pick.
The Kansas City Chiefs would like to announce the signings of:
CB Stanford Routt, 1 year
Rookie FB Paul Wilson, 1 year
FB Jon Bradley, 1 year
The Kansas City Star reports that the pickups of FBs Bradley and Wilson were to provide better run blocking for the running backs of the Chiefs. The signing of Stanford Routt was to add more speed to the secondary.
Coach Capers: "With Larry Johnson out, we need McAllister and Charles to step up to the occasion. However, with Johnson, we could afford to put a more recieving/carrying fullback in the backfield; with McAllister and Charles, we cannot and need a more dedicated run blocking full back. With Bradley and Wilson, we have two guys that can run block for our backs. Coach Heimerdinger is already looking at ways to get both of them into various formations. We do plan on remaining a primarily run-first team throughout the year."
Coordinator Heimerdinger: "LJ's injury certainly hurts our offense. He allowed us to threaten to run and hit with play action when needed. McAllister and Charles are solid backs, but we need both of them to preform at a high level in order for our offense to go. Paul Wilson and Jon Bradley give us a pair of guys that can be devastating lead blockers. I'd like to get both on the field from some formations as well, hopefully we can make that happen. It'll still be tough to get this team working, and until we can find exactly how to make our offense preform at the level we want it to, we'll need these guys to play well."
Coordinator Jauron: "The addition of Routt is one I like. He's a quick little bugger, and the lack of a quick guy killed us against the Skins. [Santana] Moss just went up and down the field on us all day. We couldn't catch him. Hopefully with Routt, we can slow these speedier recievers down."
