Re: Starting over: an Indianapolis Colts Franchise

Johnson, Vick, Garcon have big games to open season

Indianapolis, IN -- The Colts defense played great, and the offense flourished, as the Colts blew out the Minnesota Vikings, 48-21, to start the season.

After stopping the Vikings on their first drive, the Colts went to work, going on a long, methodical drive, that ended with a 1 yard burst by Michael Vick on a draw. The Colts answered Jake Locker's 50-yard bomb to Bernard Berrian with a 63-yard run by Chris Johnson, who missed the last 6 games of last season with a herniated disk. Johnson had a great return, rushing for 168 yards and 2 TD's.

Reggie Bush added a 79-yard punt return, but looks to be (literally) slipping out of the Colt's passing game. Bush was targeted 3 times during the game, and dropped all 3. Bush looks to be replaced by either Rookie Rueben Randle, 2nd-year pro Nick Toon, or recently signed Ted Ginn Jr.

The fates of Vick and Ponder are strangely intertwined. The Colts had strong interest in Ponder in the 2011 draft, but were foiled by the Vikings selection of him 5 picks before theirs. This led to poor QB play by other Colts QB's, which prompted Colts GM Bill Polian to put together a trade for Vick. Ponder performed average, throwing 3 touchdowns, but on only 13-31 passing.

WR Pierre Garcon got off to a good start, catching 4 passes for over 100 yards and a touchdown.

Stats:

Vick: 14-25, 260 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 4 car, 52 yards, TD

Johnson: 15 car, 168 yards, 2 TD, 4 rec, 45 yards

Garcon: 4 rec, 110 yards, TD

Austin Collie: 3 rec, 49 yards, TD

Jacob Tamme: 2 rec, 40 yards

Clint Session: 6 tackles, 2 TFL, forced fumble

Jerry Hughes: 2 tackles, 1 TFL, Sack

Fili Moala: 3 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks

Brandon Graham: 4 tackles, TFL, sack

Injury Report:

Did not play: LE William Hayes, broken thumb (will return next week)
DT Stephen Paea, broken collarbone
LG Carl Johnson, broken jaw- OUT FOR SEASON

The Colts travel to Green Bay next week to take on the Packers.

Indianapolis, IN -- Just 2 weeks before the training camp begins, the Indianapolis Colts have received the worst news in Franchise history: Peyton Manning will likely never play again. He was in a car accident this morning driving to the team's facility. Manning's injuries are not life threatening, but the accident snapped his tibia and tore his ACL, in addition to a broken clavicle. These injuries are severe enough that Manning will likely never play again.

The Colts are in a state of shock at this point in time, and have yet to release a statement on the situation. The only reaction from the organization concerning the leagues only 4-time MVP was Bob Irsay's tweet: Peyton in bad accident. On the way to the hospital. Praying for the best.

Stay tuned for more from Indianapolis.
I'm extremely late but I got a huge kick out of this story.
