Here we go again. I know I have posted a few Bears dynasties in my day, but I am here to say that this is the last thread you will see from me. I want this dynasty to be a great one and my plan is to not give up on this one. I will try to make this as enjoyable as my previous thread and have a lot of fun doing so. I will not rush anything and I think that will be the key to this dynasty's success. Bear with me as I get everything set up and get this thing going on a good level. Chicago shuffles roster as training camp gets underway

Bourbonnais, IL - Football is upon us and as the Chicago Bears begin training camp, the fate of four Bears came to an end as head coach Lovie Smith released his first round of cuts. A mere six days into training camp, Smith and general manager Jerry Angelo terminated the contracts of FS Craig Steltz, DT Marcus Harrison, WR Juaquin Iglesias, and HB Kahlil Bell.

The quick cutting of four Bears was driven by coach Smith's new 'play to win' philosophy. "We have to win football games," stated Smith. "In order to do that we have to field the best players we can. I mean no disrespect to Steltz, Harrison, Iglesias, and Bell, but it was in the team's best interest to let them go. We are taking things very seriously this year and we will do whatever it takes to play football in January."

Other roster moves have the Bears moving TE Brandon Manumaleuna to the fullback position and LE Corey Wootton to the defensive tackle position. Wootton, a rookie from Northwestern University, has shown a ton of promise with the first string defense at the defensive tackle position and is taking the move is stride. "I just want to help this team in any way that I can. To be apart of this great defense is an honor in itself, but if coach Smith wants me to change positions, I'm more than happy to."

Additions to the Bears' rosters include ex-Bear LG Terrence Metcalf and C Dan Santucci. Metcalf and Santucci each signed to a one year contract worth $1.05M and $1.02M respectively. Not slated to be in contention for a starting roll, Metcalf and Santucci might see time on special teams and will be relied on as substitutions and back-ups.

As training camp rolls on, the Bears are getting ready for their first preseason game against the San Diego Chargers in San Diego, California. The game is scheduled for Saturday, August 21st at 7:00 P.M. CST. Coach Smith said his starters are expected to only see two drives to a quarter of play at the most. Also, no injuries have been reported as of training camp's start about a week ago.

Fight leads to benching, depth chart revised

Bourbonnais, IL - Tensions were high at Bears' training camp this week as WR Devin Aromashodu and CB D.J. Moore engaged in a physical altercation at practice early Friday morning. While running a full contact drill, Moore slammed Aromashodu to the ground. When Aromashodu stood up, he charged Moore and tackled him to the ground. Moore then proceeded to swing at Aromashodu. Head coach Lovie Smith quickly intervened and the players were seperated.

"When your in a high energy environment, it's easy to get caught up in the moment," stated Smith. "We have a lot of competitive players on this team and no one wants to be made a fool. The altercation between Devin and D.J. is being dealt with. Both will sit out of our home opener against San Diego. They will still be allowed to practice, but will see no time come the 21st. They apologized to each other and the team and we can consider this matter dropped."

Smith has also made some moves on the depth chart, moving DE Israel Idonije above DE Mark Anderson. Idonije racked up 2.5 sacks last season with 1 forced fumble and 13 tackles, but has shown a lot of promise in the early goings of training camp. Also, OLB Nick Roach has moved above OLB Pisa Tinoisamoa. Roach gained 74 tackles last year with 1 sack and 3 forced fumbles.

Fourth Quarter Blues Send Bears to 0-1
Chicago give up 15 points in the fourth, lose to San Diego 22-17

San Diego, CA - The Chiacgo Bears (0-1) dropped their preseason opener to the San Diego Chargers (1-0) tonight after giving up 15 points in the fourth quarter, including a safety. However, the Bears' first string played solid through the first two quarters of play, taking a 14-7 lead into halftime. Head coach Lovie Smith was not disappointed with his teams performance aside from the collaspe in the final quarter.

"We just ran out of gas at the end," stated Smith. "Three solid quarters of football in a preseason opener is fine by me, but we need to finish games. Jay [Cutler] and Chester [Taylor] had great games and it was good to see the first team offense flowing like it did. We have some things to work on, but that's what preseason is all about; getting back to regluar season form. It's always tough to lose, but the good thing about this loss is that it goes away in three weeks. Now it's time to hit the practice field and get ready for the Raiders."

The Bears scored on their second possession when QB Jay Cutler found FB Brandon Manumaleuna for a 7 yard touchdown pass as the first quarter of play. Manumaleuna, who saw time at both fullback and tight end, ended the game with 2 receptions for 13 yards and the one touchdown and Cutler, who saw only two drives, completed 3 of 5 passes for 28 yards and one touchdown.

After a 1 yard touchdown by San Diego's FB Jacob Hester, Chicago marched down the field and regain the lead on a QB Caleb Hanie 4 yard touchdown run of his own to take the 14-7 lead into halftime. Hanie finished the game with 4 of 6 completions for 24 yards and 1 rush attempt for 4 yards and a touchdown. "It felt good to help our team score," stated Hanie. "All of my receivers had defenders locking them down and I saw an opening. [Shawne] Merriman was closing in and let me tell you, that is a very scary sight. *laughs* I wish we could of pulled this one out, but we just have to focus on next week."

The fourth quarter was all Chargers as QB Billy Volek led the team to 15 points and the come from behind win. HB Darren Sproles started the assult with a 3 yard run to narrow the Bears lead, 17-10. MLB Brandon Siler then tackled Bears' HB Chester Taylor in their endzone for a safety to narrow the gap further, 17-12. On the ensuing Charger drive, Volek found a wide open WR Seyi Ajirotutu who took the ball 51 yards to the house and, after a failed two point conversion, took a 22-17 victory.

WR Earl Bennett suffered an injury in the third quarter after catching two passes for 35 yards. Bennett received x-rays and it was determined that he suffered a broken arm and is expected to miss 7-8 weeks. "It's always tough to lose a valuable part of an offense," stated QB Jay Cutler, who attended Vanderbilt University with Bennett. "I hope he makes a speedy recovery and gets back on the field to help us win some games."

The Bears will not head home to play host to the Oakland Raiders (0-0-1). The game is scheduled for Saturday, August 28 at 7:30 P.M. CST. Training camp will remain underway this week with the team receiving an off day tomorrow. Also, fans will be able to sit in on practice from 11:00 to 2:00 next Monday at Olivet Nazarene Universtiy.

- Six teams tied in the opening week of the preseason. Oakland Raiders 20 @ Dallas Cowboys 20, Detroit Lions 13 @ Pittsburgh Steelers 13, Minnesota Vikings 17 @ St. Louis Rams 17.

- Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick went 14 for 23 with 131 yards, 3 touchdowns in a 31-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

- Notable injuries in the first week of the 2010 preseason include, San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (Torn Rotator Cuff - Out for season), Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett (Broken Arm - Out 7-8 weeks), and Denver Broncos CB Champ Bailey (Herniated Disk - Out 6-7 weeks).

- The Miami Dolphins have signed FS O.J. Atogwe to a one year deal worth $9.13M and the Washington Redskins have signed DT John Henderson to a one year deal worth $6.69M.

Second round of cuts announced, injury report

Bourbonnais, IL - Head coach Lovie Smith released his next round of cuts this week after the Bears' 22-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Leaving the team this week are FB Eddie Williams and CB Joshua Moore. After FB Brandon Manumaleuna made the switch from tight end, Williams' depature was evident. CB Joshua Moore, the Bears' recent 5th round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, was rumored to be slow in picking up Chicago's defense, which resulted in a cut.

Due to the recent injury of WR Earl Bennett, the Bears' have announced the signing of WR Devard Darling to a one year, 1.01M deal. Darling spent four seasons (2004-2007) with the Baltimore Ravens, racking up 20 receptions and 3 touchdowns in limited playing time. His last season, in 2008 with the Kansas City Chiefs, Darling caught 17 passes for 247 yards and 1 touchdown. Although barely hanging on to the depth chart, Darling should be a big help this 2010 season.

The Bears have also announced the signing of RG Daniel Loper to a one year, $890K contract and DT Anthony Montgomery to a one year $970K contract. While Loper will serve as back up to RG Roberto Garza, Montgomery will see most of his playing on special teams.

OLB Lance Briggs missed practice Monday and Tuesday due to soreness in his calf. After meeting with the team's doctors, Briggs was cleared to practice and play this week against the Oakland Raiders. Coach Lovie Smith is continuing to have Briggs take it easy. "Briggs' is obviously a big part of our defense," stated Smith. "We are going to have him take it easy and see how he plays throughout practice this week. Seeing as it's preseason, we need to make sure our top tiered players are in great shape as the season nears."

Oakland Offense No Match for Mosters of the Midway
Bears' defense shuts out Raiders en route to first preseason win

Chicago, IL - On a cold day in the Windy City, the Chicago Bears (1-1) earned their first win of the 2010 preseason against the Oakland Raiders (0-1-1) Saturday night, 13-0. The shut out by the Bears' defense greatly out shined the lack luster performance by Chicago's starting offense, who were not able to reach the end zone in the first half. Head coach Lovie Smith, however, was not concerned.

"Our defense deserve the game ball," stated Smith. "They really went out there and proved that last week's loss was a fluke. Jay [Culter] and the offense struggled in the first half, but our defense made sure we stayed in the game. It really says a lot about our players. If we're going to get hit, we will come back and hit harder. I'm happy with this win and now we just need to build upon it as we inch closer to opening week."

The Bears offense did struggle to reach the end zone in the first half, but K Robbie Gould connected on two field goal from 27 and 39 yards to give the Bears a 6-0 lead heading into half time. However their lack of scoring was not due to a lack of trying. QB Jay Cutler completed 12 of 19 passes for 124 yards, no touchdowns or interceptions. At the end of the second quarter, WR Johnny Knox dropped a fairly catchable pass in the end zone that would of given the Bears a 13-0 lead. Cutler did not blame his offense, however, with the lack of scoring.

"We just were not making the right plays," stated Cutler. "We put together a couple nice drives, but we really have to start finishing them. My receivers did a great job at getting open and making plays. We just need to do a better job next time."

DT Tommie Harris and the Bears' defense led the way all game, giving up 145 yards of total offense the entire game. Harris ended the game with 4 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 2 sacks. The team ended with 4 sacks (2 by Harris, 1 by MLB Tim Shaw and 1 by DE Israel Idonije), 2 forced fumbles (1 by DE Mark Anderson and 1 by OLB Nick Roach), and 1 fumble recovery by CB Corey Graham. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was very pleased with his defense's performace.

"The boys played great today," stated Marinelli. "It's all fun and games when your doing well and you could tell they were having fun out there today. Our secondary lead the way today. Giving up only 56 passing yards is an amazing feat. Granted the majority of Oakland's throws were panicked bombs, we still did a great job sticking to our assignments and stopping plays. We had good pressure on [Jason] Campbell and [Bruce] Gradkowski and we really forced them to make bad decisions. It was a good win, but now we need to focus on next week."

The only touchdown came on a 2 yard run by Bears' HB Chester Taylor. Chicago was able to march down the field 64 yards and punch it into the end zone for a 13-0 lead. Graham's fumble recovery late in the fourth capped the win for the Bears as they moved to 1-1 on the season.

After a big hit covering a Bears' kick off, S Josh Bullocks remained on the ground after the play was called dead. Bullocks was taken into the locker room where they determined he suffered a broken jaw. Bullocks is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Chicago will stay at home next week when they play host to the Arizona Cardinals (2-0). The game is scheduled to take place Saturday, September 4th at 7:30 CST.

- The Buffalo Bills (2-0) shocked the Indianapolis Colts (1-1) 20-17 in front of their home crowd. HB Marshawn Lynch rushed for 52 yards on 15 attempts for 1 touchdown. QB Peyton Manning completed 11 of 17 passes for 146 yards and 1 touchdown.

- Tampa Bay Buccaneers OLB Jon Alston leads the league with 5.0 sacks in two games. Philadelphia Eagles WR/PR DeSean Jackson has already returned 2 punts for touchdowns this season, leading the league.

- Notable injuries in the second week of the 2010 preseason include, Philadelphia Eagles QB Kevin Kolb (Dislocated Ankle - 2 weeks), Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice (Abdominal Tear - 2 weeks), and Kansas City Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle (Complete MCL Tear - Out for Season).
