Week 7 Matchup

Seattle Seahawks (3-3) at Baltimore Ravens (2-4)

After last week’s loss to the Bungholes, the Ravens will now need to run the table to win as many games as they did in 2010. Despite that, having to go back east for the second week in a row will make it no easy job for the Seahawks to give the Ravens more losses in seven weeks than they had in sixteen games a year ago. A win would be an important one for the Seahawks, who would go into their bye week a game over .500 before hosting the Steelers in Week 9.

Last Week:

Seahawks 56, Bengals 7

Cardinals 38, Eagles 31

Last Meeting: 12-23-07- Seahawks 27, Ravens 6

Series Record: Ravens lead 2-1

Key Injuries

SEA: DE Chris Clemons, (torn quad, 2 w)

Re: M2H's Alternate Reality Seattle Seahawks

Green's Gang Routs Ravens, 36-14

With 14 receptions, Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver A.J. Green came a catch short of tying the single-game franchise record established by Steve Largent in 1987. Along with the 14 catches came 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Green’s showcase performance propelled Carson Palmer to a 400 yard day, and it’s now safe to say that all of that late-start rust has been shaken off. With the tandem slicing and dicing, the Hawks overwhelmed the Baltimore Ravens, 36-14, giving Seattle its second win over one of 2010‘s playoff teams. With the Seahawks going into their bye week, Green leads the league in catches (47) and yards (856) and he is second to Reggie Wayne in TD receptions (8 and 10 respectively). The big aerial day overshadowed and rendered moot the Ravens’ shutdown of Seattle’s running game, and the Hawk D made it a miserable afternoon for Joe Faggo, who mostly couldn’t hit a mountainside, let alone the broad side of a barn. The Seahawks improved to 4-3, while the loss dropped the Ravens, who were 12-4 in 2010, to a head-scratching 2-5.

A holding call in the opening possession backed the Seahawks into a 2nd and 19 situation, which then became 3rd and 8 with Palmer’s 11 yard completion to Ronnie Brown. Palmer then connected with Deon Butler for a 54 yard touchdown, with Butler going the final 20 yards after breaking an attempted tackle by Tom Zbikowski. The Ravens returned the favor with Mike Sims-Walker eluding Nnamdi Asomugha to go 16 yards after the catch on a 35 yard score. After a Seattle punt, Flacco’s 41 yard completion to T.J. Hoozyerdaddy gave the Ravens a first and goal at the 4. Ray Rice got 3 of those 4 yards on first down, and punched it in on second, and Baltimore was now done scoring for the day as the Seahawks went on to put up the game’s last 29 points, starting with a 21 yard Olindo mare chip shot with 11:03 remaining in the half. Mare added on kicks of 38 and 39 yards to give Seattle a 16-14 halftime advantage.

Green’s first touchdown catch covered 26 yards and came at the 9 minute mark of the third quarter, and with a 34 yard kick by Mare, the Seahawks took a 26-14 lead into the fourth. With 13:03 to go, on the first play after Palmer converted a 4th and inches with a sneak for the second time in the series, Brown lost a fumble at the Baltimore 18. Terrell Suggs was credited with the force and Haloti Nagata got the recovery. The Ravens’ ensuing three and out included Brandon Mebane’s second sack, and after the punt Seattle was at the Baltimore 43. The short field was turned into Palmer’s 13 yard TD pass to Green, making the score 33-14. Jake Locker came in for mop-up duty after their Ravens turned the ball over on downs at their 39, and Mare finalized the score with a 38 yard boot with 1:11 to go.

L: Deon Butler leaves Baltimore’s safeties rolling on the ground as he heads for the end zone. R: Butler holds on to a
catch in traffic.

Not this time: Aso blows up Mike Sims-Walker, who earlier
beat him for a TD.

Week 9 Matchup

Seattle Seahawks (4-3) vs. Pittburgh Steelers (6-2)

The last time the Seahawks met the Steelers was also the last time the Hawks were shut out, far from what they were hoping for a season and a half after their dubious Super Bowl XL loss. Payback is past due, and Seattle needs a win to maintain a slim lead in the series.

Last Week:

Seahawks- bye week

Steelers

Last Meeting: 10-7-07- Steelers 21, Seahawks 0

Series Record: Seahawks lead 8-7

Key Injuries

PIT: WR Hines Ward - shoulder, 1 w
