ESPNU to Televise 2011 A-Day Game on April 16th
March 11, 2011
Tuscaloosa, Ala- The University of Alabama's annual A-Day Game will be televised live to a national audience by ESPNU on Saturday, April 16. A-Day is the 15th and final practice of the spring with kickoff from Bryant-Denny Stadium scheduled for 2 p.m. (CDT). As it is each year, admission is free to the public.
"We're pleased to televise Alabama's spring game and A-Day festivities as well as our SEC Thursday night baseball game on ESPNU," Dan Margulis, ESPNU director, programming, said. "We recognize the appetite college fans have for their teams and continue to look for ways to serve them."
Over the last four years, Alabama has totaled 345,700 fans at A-Day. UA established a college football record in the spring of 2007 as a capacity crowd of 92,138 watched head coach Nick Saban's first A-Day at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Last year's attendance of 91,312 led the country and an average of 86,425 have been on hand for the last four A-Day scrimmages at Alabama. With Bryant-Denny Stadium's expansion pushing capacity over 100,000, Alabama will once again have a chance to regain the spring game attendance record this year (Ohio State had 95,722 in 2009).
ESPNU is now available in 73 million households and the ESPN network has televised SEC sports for 28 years. On-air commentators for A-Day will be Dave Neal, Andre Ware and Tom Luginbill.
In addition to the game on Saturday, there will be plenty of activities going on at the Capstone A-Day weekend. ESPNU will televise Alabama's baseball game against Tennessee Thursday night and the baseball team hosts the Volunteers on Friday and Saturday as well. The softball team hosts Mississippi State April 15, 16 and 17, men's tennis hosts Auburn later in the day on April 16, and women's soccer has a spring game against Samford the evening of April 15.
Like the last two years, there will be a flag football game featuring former Alabama players Saturday morning in Bryant-Denny Stadium and the 2010 team captains will be honored at Denny Chimes prior to the game as well. A complete schedule of events will be available at a later date on RollTide.com.
Following spring break next week, the Crimson Tide starts spring practice on Monday, March 21, and will practice over the next four weeks culminating with A-Day on April 16.
