Re: Between the Hedges: A Georgia Bulldogs Dynasty (NCAA 12)

Bulldogs Jump Out Early, Hold on to Win

Carlton Thomas carried the Bulldogs to a statement win

Athens, GA -- Georgia looked good early, on both sides of the ball. Georgia drove the ball all the way to the Boise State one yard line on the opening drive, but stalled, after the Dawgs elected to go for the touchdown, only to be denied. The defense would reward Coach Mark Richt for going for it on the one. On third and long, DeAngelo Tyson got to Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore for the sack. The Dawgs would score a touchdown 27 seconds later, thanks to a Carlton Thomas twelve yard run, making it a 9-0 game. Then, the Bulldogs hung a 17 spot on the Broncos in the second quarter. With 54 seconds left in the second quarter Kellen Moore gave the Broncos a little momentum, driving the ball down field and setting up Boise kicker Michael Frisnia for a 29 yard field goal, making it a 26-3 game, in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Boise State defense tightened it up in the second half, only allowing three points in the third quarter. However, Boise State's offense could not figure out the Bulldogs defense. Kellen Moore finally found Chris Potter, on a 40 yard touchdown pass, in the fourth quarter with 7:45 left, making it a 29-10 game. Kellen Moore would then find another reciever, Aaron Burks, for a 34 yard touchdown pass, drawing within striking distance to make it a 29-17 game. Then the defense held strong again forcing a Georgia punt, but with so little time left, the Broncos had to air it out against a strong Georgia secondary, and would go 4 and out.
Coach Mark Richt had this to say after the game. "Carlton Thomas really responded well. He had to step in and fill the role of Washaun Ealy and Caleb King, and he did a great job. 200+ yards in his first game of the season, I'd say he is pretty satisfied with his showing. He really allowed us to get the play action game going. He was the reason Aaron (Murray) had all the passing yards he did, because the defenders had to freeze, and that gave time for Rantavious Wooten and Tavarres King to blow past their defenders. But, this Broncos team never threw in the towel. They have a lot of heart and passion, and showed tonight, why they are one of the best teams in college football."
Coach Chris Petersen had this to say in his interview with Erin Andrews after the game. "It hurts to lose the season opener, but these guys never quit, and i'm proud of them for that. We could have just gave up when we were down 26-3 at halftime, but we didn't. I think if Doug (Martin) hadn't of gone down for half of the game, and we didn't commit so many crucial penalties, we would have won this game, but we can't let this loss get to us. We have to prepare for our next game and keep our heads up."
Georgia will take on South Carolina at Sanford Stadium next week and Boise State will have the week off to prepare for Toledo, at Toledo.

Finally, a Dawgs one!

Tyson's a beast in mine. I start Samuel at RB, though.
