Re: "Dragon Breath" A UAB Dynasty (NCAA12)
BLAZER WEEKLY
HIGH STEPPIN' EXPECTATIONS

UAB'S SCOTT MENTIONED WITH THE NATIONS BEST
After another 100+ yard performance, UAB sophomore running back Matthew Scott is now in the Heisman talks. Several media outlets and coaches around the country are impressed with what he has done so far this season. Through six games he has rushed for 898 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging 7.6 yards per carry.
"He's definitely coming into his own, the playing time he got last season was so important in his growth and his hard work is paying off."
HC Travis Rhatigan
The Blazers are 6-0 and ranked #12 in the country, as they continue to win his supporters will grow.
Slaughter named National Player of the Week!
Middle Linebacker Tom Slaughter rewarded for his performance against Conference foe ECU.

5 tackles, four for a loss, two fumble recoveries a forced fumble and oh yea, three sacks will get anybody a player of the week award. Slaughter has been very instrumental to this defense's success during his senior season. This is the second UAB player to get the award this season.
Head Coach Travis Rhatigan met with media on Tuesday to discuss the teams huge win over ECU as well as his thoughts on the first half of the season. He also talked about this upcoming match up with UTEP.
Opening Statement: First of I wanna congratulate our guys for the big win at home. We started this four game home stand off on the right note. Key players in the victory, obviously Slaughter and Bowser both setting examples as Seniors grabbing three sacks a piece. Our outstanding secondary play, they were all over everything. Offensively Scott with another big game on the ground, Smith threw the ball well, overall a great performance. We watched the film corrected a few things and now its behind us.
On his thoughts thus far: Im very pleased with our team right now, we're playing championship football, defense is lights out. Nobody is giving Wayne Smith the credit he deserves right now, through six games he has 20 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions and he's spreading the ball around to everybody. Scott has just went into another gear and when we need the tough yards he's able to get them. I think the win over Virginia Tech kinda boosted us to the mind set we're at right now, I mean we struggled heaviley in that game Smith had his worst game something like 5 for 20. But we showed that we can battle it out on the road in a tough environment and come out with the win. Dont get me wrong its just the mid way point, things will get tough down the stretch and we end the season on a four game road trip so, we'll have to stay focus and take it one game at a time.
On this weekend's game against UTEP: This is one of those trap games for us, its a home game but on film they're not to impressive. Meaning we may take them for granted. Their quarterback Castillo does everything for him so he will be our main focus, we stop him we stop them. I'm not to too worried from an athletic stand point but mentally we need to stay focused.

Game Notes | As Travis Rhatigan stated earlier this week, this could be a trap game for UAB. UTEP is a tricky team starting the season off 2-0 then losing three straight. UTEP is last in the conference in passing yards but quarterback Jeff Castillo will look to get back on the right track, he also leads the team in Rushing and is 5th overall in the conference. He'll have to try and sneak by the nations #1 rush defense as they will probably be licking their chops.
UAB may not need much in this game. Scott may be all they need and the starters can rest as I see the Blazers rolling in this one 60-10 |
