BLAZERS ROAST 'EM

CODY GORE RUNS WILD AS BLAZERS KEEP UNDEFEATED SEASON ALIVE AGAINST UL-MONROE 49-6

================
ASSOCIATED PRESS
=============

Birmingham, Ala -
UAB improved to 8-0 for the third straight year with a convincing 49-6 victory over UL-Monroe at Legion Field. The Blazers over-whelmed UL- Monroe (4-3) both on the ground and in the air racking up 507 yards of offense.

In the last four games the Blazers (8-0, 5-0 SEC) have done nearly everything they could to build momentum. Now comes November and the prospect of facing #21 Georgia and Tennessee on the road before a Senior day match-up with the improving Gators.

An outing like Saturday afternoon would go a long way in helping.

The Blazers have used a perfect balance of quick, efficient offense and attacking defense, getting a 71-yard touchdown pass from Adam Dyks to Vincent Jackson, a Travis Jackson 37-yard score and Bill Cooley caught Dyks third score from 29-yards out. 59 and 74-yard runs by Cody Gore who also scored a 4-yard touchdown kept the Warhawks off balanced on defense. A 6-yard run by Luke Sullivan finished the scoring for the Blazers.,

The Warhawks received the opening kick off and immediately felt the nations no. 1 defense's presence. After the games first play saw Warhawk quarterback B. Taylor hit R. Stewart for a 38 yard gain, Linebacker Tom Cox introduced himself sacking Taylor for a loss of nine on the play two straight negative run plays saw ULM punting.
It didnt take UAB long to hit pay dirt, in just two plays Dyks would hit a streaking Vince Jackson for 71 yards and the route was on.
On ULM’s next possession, Vince Jones grabbed UAB's only turnover of the day when he intercepted Taylor. It took just one play for the Blazers to capitalize as Gore took the handoff right up the middle and raced 59-yards to put UAB up 14-0 just three minutes into the game.
" Ill tell you what, when our running game is clicking with the past we're one tough team to handle." Said Rhatigan

(EARLY SCORES FROM JACKSON AND GORE PROVED COSTLY FOR THE WARHAWK HOPES)

The Blazers defense stepped up again and forced a quick punt setting UAB up at the ULM 26 on its next drive. The next play Gore took it around the right side and sprinted to the end zone for a 21-0 lead. The stadium was rocking and the Warhawks looked confused to as what was going on.
The Blazers would take a 21-3 lead into the half. The Warhawks had only 88 yards of total offense in the half while the Blazers were already at 275 yards.
" Like coach tells us all the time, if we play our game we wont be beat." Quarterback Adam Dyks said. Dyks would go 11 of 19 for 288 yards and 3 touchdowns before getting pulled to start the fourth quarter. " I really liked our rhythm today, it was simple and we executed."

The Blazers opened the third quarter up just as the first quarter when Dyks hit Travis Jackson from 37-yards out. Gore would tack on his third and Dyks would throw his last past to Cooley for the score.
" They were scoring so quick it just seemed like we didnt have time to adjust or really know what defense to bring." Warhawks head coach McBride said. "Then add the crowd factor, this truley a tough place to play, I'd like to play them back at our place."

The Warhawks mounted some offense in the second half but continually stalled out kicking four field goals and making only two. The Blazers turned it up a notch as well. After only getting to him twice in the first half the Blazers sacked Taylor four more times in the second half as freshmen linebacker Bryan Ramsey grabbed two of them. Ramsey came in after Timi McCollum received a scare twisting his knee, but was able to return to the game, after returning Rhatigan quickly pulled him.

"Thats all we need is for our defensive leader to get a serious injury in a game we're dominating, I chose to sit him out the rest of the game and we'll take further evaluations as the week goes on."
--
(ALONG WITH THE NCAA'S SACK LEADER, FRESHMEN BRYAN RAMSEY AND THE BLAZERS HELD ULM OUT OF THE ENDZONE)

Overall the defense pitched its fourth offensive shut out of the season and continues to dominate the line of scrimmage as they hurried Taylor 17 times on 25 of his attempts as well as knocking him down 12 times and recording 6 sacks.
But the talk of the day went to Cody Gore, the Senior running back rushed for over 200 yards and three score's. He showed power and speed and proved to be just the weapon the Blazers need,
Next up for the Blazers is a trip "Between the Hedges" as they head to Athens to take on #21 Georgia.

RETURNIN' THE FAVOR
AUBURN HOLDS ON IN OT FOR WIN AT DEATH VALLEY
  • Baton Rouge, LA - Last season LSU went into the Hills of Auburn and pulled out a dominating 28-3 win. This was a different story. As Auburn inches closes to a SEC Championship game rematch with UAB, they hopped a huge hurdle. Eddie White rushed for 129 yards and quarterback J. Darby despite throwing for only 72 yards threw two touchdowns including the game winner in OT with no interceptions. Down 21-6 LSU stormed back with 15 fourth quarter points and after a 30 yard completion from Porter to Johnson LSU saw themselves on the 26 yard line with 10 seconds remaining in regulation, but mass confusion saw the Tigers snap the ball with 6 seconds instead of using their final timeout and a errant pass fell incomplete to send the game to over-time. In over time LSU would get a 27 yard field goal, but on Auburn's first play Darby found Warren for a 25 yard touchdown for the win.

BALANCE HAS BIRMINGHAM THINKING ABOUT ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCE:
BLAZERS SURGE TO THE TWO SPOT IN THE LATEST BCS RANKINGS
  • As the teams hit the final stretch of the season, the Blazers find themselves in a familiar spot. They are now considered one of the two best teams in the land. Led by the Nations Top defensive unit and the second best pass offense UAB just may finally be the favorites to win the National title. NCAA sack leader Tom Cox knows the job still isn't complete. "We need to stay focus and stay out of the media and take care of our part." UAB has a tough one this weekend when they face #18 Georgia in Athens.
AROUND THE NCAA:
  • Week 11 dubbed Survival weekend
  • Georgia expects loud home crowd as they welcome #2 UAB
  • Husker hope to make it three in a row against ranked opponents
  • NCAA awards announce semi-finalist
  • Purdue's Hall hopes his magical arm throws Wisconsin the upset

  • Hawkeye's feel game at Michigan can put them back in the hunt
BCS TALK:
  • Not much movement this week in the BCS, although #8 Illinois took a bad lost to unranked Purdue opening the door for Auburn who was 11th to get in the top ten. The computers were impressed with UAB and allowed them to jumped #2 Cal. Wisconsin still holds firm at #1. Here are this weeks BCS Standings.

WEEK 11 TOP GAMES

#3 UAB (8-0, 5-0) at #17 Georgia (6-2, 5-1)
Ultimately for Georgia this is a chance to take first place of the SEC East. Georgia's Mark Richt is 0-2 versus Travis Rhatigan and the Blazers and the games weren't close. But this time around the the Bulldogs are the home team. A bad loss to Alabama earlier this year is Georgia's only blemish at home as they post a 4-1 record "Between the Hedges". UAB comes in with offensive power from just about every position. Quarterback Adam Dyks leads this balanced offenseive attack and the emergence of Cody Gore has UAB's ground game on point. Georgia will more worries as they need to find ways to get receiver Bryan Sanders the ball he's third in the conference in receptions and yards and is Georgia get out trouble guy. A balance of him and Norton on the ground could help stir the upset

#14 Stanford (7-1, 5-1) at #6 Oregon (7-1, 4-1)
As both teams chase #3 Cal in the very competitive Pac-12 North, who they both will play in the coming weeks this collision course is finally here. Upset loses to Arizona for Stanford and Utah for Oregon have only made this game that much bigger. Stanford comes into this game on paper with the better offense led by Pac-12 passing yeards leader Demarcus Paris. He has two formidable athletes to give the ball to in running back Christian Carter (7 Td's) and receiver Chad Coleman (10 Td's). However Oregon plays defense and theyre at home in the zoo. Oregon has the 10th best defense in the NCAA Linebacker Nick Kelly and a feisty defense, with Oregon's offense not as explosives as past teams this defense will need to carry thm this weekend

College Gameday Game of the Week

#7 Oklahoma State (7-1, 4-0) at #4 Texas (8-0, 5-0)
The experts feel this could be a game where you want to take the over. The Cowboys come into the game scoring 42 points per game, they average 490.3 per game.Quarterback Patrick Warren, a O'Brien semi finalist with time has destroyed opposing defenses. Even in their 20 point loss to Auburn earlier this year Warren did all he could do. But the Cowboys dont play defense. Not good when your playing a team averaging 39 points a game and 307.3 yards on the ground good for first in the NCAA. With the recent adoption of Georgia Techs option the Longhorns have caught the big 12 off guard. The tandem of Sam Pace and Ryan Russ could be dangerous to a Cowboy defense ranked 67th national against the run.

OTHER GAMES OF NOTE:
#15 Iowa (7-1) at #23 Michigan (6-2)
#22 Virginia Tech (6-2) at Miami (7-3)
#13 Florida State (8-1) at #25 Boston College (6-3)
#21 Penn State (7-1) at Nebraska (3-5)

ROAD WARRIORS:
BLAZERS LOOK FORWARD UPCOMING ROAD GAMES

Birmingham, Ala -
After a five week home stand comes the toughest part of the year for the now No. 2 ranked Blazers. A trip to both Athens, Georgia and Knoxville, Tennessee await the Blazers on a season where in their eight games they have only been on the road twice. As the season turns with the weather the Blazers know they need to bring their A-game. "No matter where you are on the road its always tough." Quarterback Adam Dyks stated earlier this week. "You have to get into a new rhythm, your not waking up in your own bed, your being heckled by fans. It definitely takes a real focus." In the two raod games the Blazers have played they definitely showed focus. In a trip to the Horseshoe in their second game they walloped Ohio State 40-14, then came right back and handled Arkansas 49-10. Both teams are currently 3-5 on the year. Defensive end Tom Cox understand the importance of focusing, well maybe not. " (Chuckling) it really doesnt matter when we're on the road as a defense because opposing fans are usually quiet when the offense is on the field, so we usually get all our plays and checks, we just cant over look these guys and play like we know how to play." You can catch the game at 6 pm eastern time on CBS.

Looks like a fairly easy matchup. Georgia is tough, but your team looks primed for the NC baby!

Something I enjoy, we are both in 2014 and fairly close, so it's nice to see how teams are doing in your dynasty compared to mine. UAB is a lot better in yours!

I think ima pump the cpu rb ability up and run blocking since georgia has a good tailback, I think my deense is just ready this year tho, my DE a former juco kid is balling and my secondary doesnt give up much...

But Im sure UAB is terrible their offense sucks I made my own playbook, also Mizzou is 3-5 right now In my dynasty the big 12 is pretty tough with Houston and TCU in it now... added with Ostate and Texas and OU.
