SOON TO BE FORGOTTEN
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ASPIRATIONS ARE NOW JUST TRYING TO FINISH THE SEASON STRONG:
Photobucket
  • Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners started the season of preseason #6, two good wins and the Sooners were up to 4th in the land. But very bad losses to Uconn at Home and then to #4 TCU on the road have the Sooners hoping to rebound and end on a good note. "Yea we're a bit disappointed." Head coach Bob Stoops said. The last two years the Sooners have been in BCS bowl games but its not looking to hot for another trip to one of four site. With Sophomore quarter once a top 5 recruit at quarterback struggling throwing 7 touchdowns as well as 7 interceptions the Sooners still have the Red River shootout game with the #1 Longhorns in two weeks. Bedlam at the end of the year too. This could be a long year for a team considered to be a contender.
AROUND THE NCAA:
  • Make or Break for Auburn as they face UAB
  • Iowa and Michigan State prepare for conference Match-up
  • #8 Gators back in the spotlight as they head to Tuscaloosa
  • Boise looks to get back on center stage with trip to Fresno
  • Houston's receiver A. Franks looks forward to matchup with Sooners
  • Big Red tussle: Stanford heads to Husker land for top 25 battle
  • Trojans know they need to contain Cal's Walter for chance

TOP GAMES FOR WEEK 5

#14 UAB (4-0) at #11 Auburn (2-2)
  • For Auburn its make or break, after starting the season #1 two losses have Auburn losing its grip on a SEC West Title. UAB has beaten Auburn four straight times including a SEC Championship thrashing, mediocre play as of late have the Blazers looking vulnerable
#18 Michigan State (3-1) at #16 Iowa (3-1)
  • With Michigan rolling a loss will more than likely hurt. For Michigan State they need to get over the Hawkeye hump. Holloway needs a good game on the ground to help out Anderson and the pass attack. For Iowa, Rhodes has been toating the rock (97.6) but Darby has been more than precise in the pass game (8-1 TD/INT) this will come down to who makes the least mistakes

GAME OF THE WEEK:
#8 Florida (4-0) at #6 Alabama (4-0)
  • The resurgence of both teams now meet. The Gators are now two years removed from the Muschamp era. A competitive team last year now has a chance to get ahead of the SEC. Waller has been throwing all over defenses and his favorite target J. Daniels is a threat. K. Alford leads a fast Dline with four sacks and prove to be a threat on the road at Bama. Bama has been led by a very tough defense. C. Williams (6.0) and J. Sowell (4.0) power this defensive line thats helped force 9 interceptions this season. Childress and Corbett help out the defense with a great ground game. If they can control the ball and keep the Gators off the field they have a chance.

Blazers Make Final Preparations For Tigers
UAB resumes SEC action at Auburn Saturday apart of CBS Double Header

Freshmen Defensive End Scott Gaither at Practice earlier this week, he leads the team with 4.5 sacks.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team continued its preparations for Auburn Thursday morning by working out for just over an hour in shorts and helmets at the UAB practice fields.
"Everything's been going well, yesterday's practice was good," UAB head coach Travis Rhatigan said. "Today's practice didn't have a lot to it, but overall the preparation for Auburn has been good."
With Saturday's nationally televised game slated for an 12:30 p.m. ET start, the Blazers will not make the trip to Auburn Hills., until Friday night.
"We want to let them go to class as much as we can," Rhatigan said.
The Blazers are 2-0 at Auburn winning 28-27 and 24-17 before blowing them out twice last season. "We know its gonna be tough there, they are kind of on the ropes and we're coming off a bye week. We need to make sure we come out forcused and ready to go."

UAB LOOKS TO CONTINUE ITS DOMINANCE OVER AUBURN
-
The Blazers are coming off a bye week and are healthy as they travel to Auburn Hills to take on Auburn. In a recent Slump Adam Dyks is licking his chops as he has had some success against Auburn's defense last year. With receivers Travis Jackson, Bill Cooley and Matt Ford the Blazers hope to continue dominance. Tailback Lawrence Long has been the secret weapon of this offense and and his 8.4 yards per carry will definitely be of note to the Tigers.
Auburn's Jeff Darby knows this defense very well getting sacked over 10 times in two games last season. In four games he's thrown 8 interceptions and needs to figure out how to attacked the blazer defense with a unit looking as if they are getting better by the game Auburn may be in trouble. If they can establish the run game tailback Mark Starks is the man to do it with, not as powerful as former Auburn backs but he may be the fastest. He's also averaging over 8 yards per carry and is fourth in conference in rushing yards with 378 yards. As has the previous match-ups this will come down to who get get the momentum early. The MO has been huge in this series, with the home crowd Auburn hopes to keep it.

OWNED
BLAZERS MAKE IT SIX AGAINST AUBURN
AFTER A DOMINATING 41-14 PERFORMANCE

(SR. DEFEENSIVE END PHIL MASON AFTER HIS SECOND SACK ON JEFF DARBY)

Auburn, Ala - When the Blazers announced they'd be adding Auburn to the schedule a few years ago coach Travis Rhatigan knew that would be a great pitch to get recruits. Now the Blazers are in the SEC and have a protected rivalry against Auburn. "The pitch to recruits went from, we're playing Auburn, to we'll beat Auburn."
Well now they've beat Auburn six consecutive times thanks to the flawless play of quarterback Adam Dyks and a tough defense.

Adam Dyks was 12-15 for 230 yards and 3 touchdown passes. Running Back Lawrence Long ran for 92 yards on 9 carries and two scores including a 39-yard dazzling sprint that saw him show power, agility and speed on his way to his 7th touchdown of the season. Not a big stat day for the receivers led by Bill Cooler and Matt Ford's three receptions. Cooley and Travis Jackson grabbed touchdowns as well as freshmen Travis Barnes who went 68-yards on this Auburn seconday.

For Auburn, it was the same tune. Jeff Darby has not been successful against the Blazer defense in three outings. He was 9 of 17 for 187 and interception before dumping off a screen to Starks late in the fourth quarter for a 85 yard touchdown bringing his total to 272 yards. He was sacked 9-times on the day and hit more. Starks could only get 24-yards on the ground on 8 carries. He led the receivers with 132 yards and a score. Thomas grabbed 58 yards while Smith hauled in 68 yards.

UAB's Travis Barnes returned the opening kickoff 102-yards for the score but the play was called back due to a clipping penalty. Adam Dyks and UAB then engineered a 6-play 88 yard drive that saw tailback Lawrence Long run in a 1-yard touchdown putting UAB up 7-0. Auburn came out pumped up on office as well. They used a 5-play 80 yard drive for the score. The no huddle had UAB looking confused and back up tailback T. Thompson capped the drive with 8 yard scoring run.
The tables seemed to turn however on the next drive for UAB. Adam Dyks would go over 100 yards passing in the quarter when he found Travis Barnes down the sideline for the 68-yard touchdown pass.
"I just wanted to make a play." Said Barnes whose opening kickoff was called back.
--
(EARLY SUCCESS BY DYKS AND LONG OPENED THE DOOR FOR UAB)

The Blazers defense seemed to have it together after Auburn easily drove down the field. The defensive line turned it up a notch blowing Darby up on the read option plays whether he had the ball or not. Facing a third down and 3, Darby and the Auburn offense just avoided a interception by RS-Freshmen Matt Gatewood, the colision by strong safety Dominique Rhodes would be the reason. UAB would go on to grab two more Dyks touchdown passes to go into the half up 28-7.
--
(TOUCHDOWN RECEPTIONS BY JACKSON AND COOLEY HELPED UAB GO INTO THE HALF UP BIG)

The Blazers poured it on in the quarter. Auburn first drive saw the Blazers get two straight sacks, on third down defensive end Scott Gaither grabbed his 5th sack on the season when he hit Darby forcing a fumble that saw MLB Timi McCollum recover for the Blazers. A holding penalty backed UAB up but that didnt hurt as tailback Lawrence Long went in for his second touchdown of the day as he made an amazing 39-yard touchdown run. The next drive UAB's defense was not done harassing Darby, Auburn would have some success moving the ball but a blind side hit from defensive end Phil Mason forced a bad pass that strong safety Dominique Rhodes intercepted giving the ball back to the Blazers. Adam Dyks would get another good drive passing the ball but the Blazers would stall out and kick a field goal to go up 38-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
--
(THIRD QUARTER TURNOVERS SEALED THE DEAL FOR A BLAZERS WIN)

In the fourth the Blazers would bring in their two's working on running down the clock. Auburn would grab another score but by then it was too late as UAB players celebrated on the field after a dominating performance. Rhodes would lead the Blazers in tackles. Phil Mason, Scott Gaither and Marcus Leak all grabbed 2.0 sacks a piece. Rhoden and McCollum both had a sack. The Blazers held Auburn's Rushing attack that averaged 198 yards per game to just 16 yards. Auburn was just 5-14 on third downs while UAB was 6-9.
--
(TO THE TUNE OF 9-SACKS, UAB'S DEFENSIVE FRONT WAS UNSTOPPABLE)
The Blazers prepare to head to Clemson next week.
