Miami vs. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech Survived The Storm!

Virginia Tech proved why their #1 rushing offense

Blacksburg, VA -
We got to see the clash of top 25 teams here at lane stadium. This was the final road came for the canes before returning home after 6 weeks of grueling road games. The classic rivalry between Miami & Virginia Tech took place today and what a game it was for the fans but not so much for Miami. They had finally dropped the ball on this one losing their first game of the season and especially against a conference foe!

The stadium was filled to capacity and the crowd was even more loud then any other given night. The hokies were prepared for them canes' tonight and it was shown on the field. Logan Thomas went 16 for 29 for 214Yds and didn't even have to throw a touchdown! Virginia Tech showed why they are the #1 rushing offense in the nation tonight. David Wilson touched the ball 19 times for 91 Yds and 1 TD and Back up RB Tony Gregory touched the ball 3 times for 10 and a touchdown. The defense was on point tonight recording 6 sacks and 3 int to go along on the night. Talk about a defense going head hunting!

Hopkins was a pure monster on the defensive line!

Miami left the Virginia with a sour taste in their mouth after the lose to VT. Hopefully they can bounce back from this! Their offense look like it went backwards tonight jacory harris went 11-32 for 116 Yds with 1 TD and 3 int on the night. The rushing attack didn't really take off like it should have, as mike james touched the ball 16 times for 87 Yds and no touchdowns once again! Don't get me started on defense...only recording 1 sack on the night with no int but one fumble recover.

The hurricanes wanted to silence the crowd quick and fast. They wasted no time finding the endzone thanks to Ford who has been a reliable target for harris as of late. [7-0]

Other then that the first quarter was pretty quiet for both teams as they played their hardest each other. The second Qtr was abit more lively with VT trying not to fall behind so early in the game. It was VT defense that made sure they didn't loose this game. SR FS Eddie Whitley jump on the ball and pick it off returning it for a pick'6 and the hokies first TD of the night. [7-7]

The scoring didn't end their. On Virginia Tech next possession Logan Thomas tried an option play but backfired on them. Freshman CB Thomas finnie jumped in-between the pitch and returned it to the house. [14-7]

Thomas Finnie: "All About The U"

The second half was just pure dominance by the hokies. They didn't allow the hurricanes to score at all which is surprising in itself. They played shut down defense and was running all over the canes on offense. They scored twice in the third quarter one being a 40 Yd FG and the other a 9 Yd run by Back up RB Tony Gregory. [14-17] Miami could answer back with anything not even a simple FG. The fourth qtr was just the same VT defense was just smothering the hurricanes picking up 2 more INT on the night and just living in their backfield. It was just a disappointing showing by Miami as they could stop Virginia Tech running game which allowed them to move the ball at will scoring two more times and put up their scores out of reach. [14-16] Virginia Tech sealed the game with an INT and beat the undefeated the hurricanes!
Offense Player of the game
Chase Ford TE (SR)
3 Rec, 54Yds, TD

Defensive Player of the Game
Antoine Hopkins DT (JR)
2 Tkls, 2 TFL, 2 ATK, 2 Sks

Hello ladies and gentlemen! This is the "Sideline Wrap-up" we are talking coaches on the hot seat. This week topic is...Mike Riley HC of Oregon Beavers.

Currently sitting at 3-3 (1-1) in the PAC 12 (4h in the north). The beavers season isn't looking to great. They have lost to lower-tier teams such as, Duke, UCLA and BYU. If head coach Mike Riley don't find a way to pull things together and quick then he could be looking at another job.

Safe Jobs
Army Head Coach Rich Ellerson
Vanderbilt Defensive Coordinator Bob Shoop
Southern Miss. Offensive Coordinator Blake Anderson
Fresno State Offensive Coordinator Jeff Grady
Boston College Head Coach Frank Spaziani
Indiana Head Coach Kevin Wilson

A Polished route runner(B) who can get in and out of his runs with relative ease. Massey has great speed(A-) to stretch the field along with an good vertical(B-). He needs to work on his catching in traffic and knowing how to get open down and across the middle of the field.

Miami Notches a Conference Win At Home.

The man that makes this offense!

Miami Garden. FL. -
Welcome to the "U". Fans are excited to finally see their canes' finally home! Miami look like they were gonna running away this easily but the Tar Heels gave them a run for their money. Miami claims their first home victory here tonight. [21- 31]

A nice brisk afternoon at sun life stadium. The crowd was roaring to see their team play after being on the road for so long as the canes' came out of the smoke all your hear was the screams from the fans echoing through out the stadium. Today is a good day to be a hurricane! Miami offense was decent at best with jacory harris making mistakes left and right all around the field. He completed 19 out of 30 passes for 247 Yds with 1 TDs and 4 INT. It wasn't the best night for Jacory but overall he made key plays that help them to the win. Mike James carried the load in the rushing game touching the ball 21 times for 153 Yds and a amazing 3 TDs. James had an amazing outing and should be able to do night after night. The defense played amazing the defensive line alone got 6 sacks by themselves. Spence and Futch each got into the action with a sack each. Jr Ray Ray Armstrong had the only 2 int on the team which was some key plays.

Miami's Defense play lights out at home (J. Futch get a Sack)

The Tar Heels showed why they had a top 10 offense on the field. So. QB Bryn Renner completed 8 out of 16 passes for 83 Yds and 1 TD along with 2 INT. Renner was running for his life all game as Miami defense was after him all night. The running game made things abit easier for Renner knowing that he had a great running-back in SR Ryan Houston who touched the ball 22 times for 126 Yds and 1 TD on the night. I believe if they gave him more touches they could have won the game! UNC only recorded 3 sacks but had 4 INT to back it up. The Tar Heels ranked #6 in pass defense and didn't shy away from INT the ball.

The Hurricanes offense exploded out of the gates. Jacory hooked up with Ford for two back to back 20+Yds which got them into tar heel territory. The drive stalled as the Tar Heels defense made a stop to force a FG. [0-3] Miami's defense made a huge play after the tar heels got passed their fifty yard line. [See Video Below]. After the big play by LE A. Ojomo Miami took advantage of the turnover by scoring a TD on their next couple of plays thanks in part to Travis Benjamin amazing play-making ability. [0-10]

Big Hit of the Game

The second quarter start and it was off to a slow start for Miami, as Harris through a pick which gave the Tar Heels excellent field position to put up some points. It was Renner who made a crucial mistake and the ball was int by JR SS Ray Ray Armstrong giving Miami the ball back at the 2 Yd line.

The hurricanes put together a nice drive resulting in a rushing TD thanks to Mike James. [0-17] Already looking bad for the tar heels, as they have yet to muster up a drive for points and just gave the ball back to Miami. Jacory wasn't on the ball at all in the first half of the game he might have made some key plays but then he would make a bone-head mistake. That is exactly what he did, as he through a pick 6' which gave the tar heels some life. [7-17] The Fans had hoped that the young quarterback had gotten all of his mistakes out of his system but he didn't. Yet again Harris throws another INT..3 in just the first half alone...

Not only that but the tar heels were able to come back and make this a game once again scoring their second touchdown of the night with a Renner to Jones TD pass. [14-17] If Miami wanted to win then they will have to do better!

The third quarter began and it was a deadlock between these teams. Both defense stood their ground forcing the punting unit on the field and also both of their offense could get anything going..until after 5 minutes of the Qtr went by the Tar Heels were able to get into the hurricanes end-zones and had to use all 4 downs to score in order to take the lead. [21-17] Miami wasn't gonna loose back to back games...especially not one at home. Miami was able to go down the field with just a minute left to score for the go ahead lead which happened to be mike james 2nd TD of the night. [21-24]The fourth began just like the third quarter did. Both team duking it out to see who will win this game. It was until after 2 long scoreless minutes that Miami broke one loose on UNC. An 80 Yd run to the pay dirt thanks once again to mike james who score his 3rd TD of the night all of them by the ground game. [21-31] Luckily for Miami their defense played their hearts out to make sure that they had won this game at home!

*Play of the Game*

Dual Offensive Player of the Game

Ryan Houston (SR)
22 Car, 126Yds, TD

Mike James (SR)
21 Car, 153 Yds, 3 TD

Next Week: Georgia Tech @ #17 Miami
