Yeah after the first game it gets pretty crazy with the schedule. I'd be thrilled if we come out of the LSU game 6-2.

Re: Auburn Tigers (NCAA '12)

Dyer, Trotter come through in clutch

AUBURN (AP) - For three and a half quarters, Barrett Trotter looked lost on the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium. But he made all the impact he needed in one drive.

Trotter went 5-5 on the final drive of the game, including a clutch fourth down conversion with eleven seconds left that directly led to Michael Dyer's two yard touchdown run to give Auburn a 28-24 win over Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs (1-1, 0-1) appeared to have the upper hand in the 4th quarter, when Trotter was picked off by Damien Anderson at the Auburn 20 yard line. But a holding call pushed Mississippi State back to the 30, and on 3rd and 21, Nosa Equae picked up his second sack of the game that drove the Bulldogs out of field goal range. The Tigers started a long 12 play, 93 yard drive that eventually led to the victory. The key plays were a 3rd and 11 draw play to little used back Anthony Morgan that went for a first down, and the aforementioned 4th and 7 conversion to Emory Blake that went for 24 yards and set up the win.

Morgan, who came into the season third on the depth chart at halfback for Auburn (2-0, 1-0), earned some more playing time after Onterio McCalebb went down with a serious elbow injury. Its believed the junior will be out for at least the rest of the regular season. Morgan had eleven carries for over 100 yards as his replacement, including an electric 65 yard touchdown in the second half.

Chris Relf couldn't match his 20/20 performance in the opener against Memphis, but he was effective, throwing for 168 yards and rushing for 64 more. However, he was unable to avoid the Auburn pressure, getting sacked five times during the game. His interception was also a key point in the game, as Morgan scored his touchdown on the first play after the turnover.

It doesn't get any easier for the Bulldogs as LSU comes into Starkville next week. The Tigers will take on their nickname counterpart in Clemson, in what will be the first of three key road tests in the next four weeks.

Re: Auburn Tigers (NCAA '12)

Auburn roars over turnover-prone Clemson

CLEMSON (AP) - Tajh Boyd threw four interceptions, and the Auburn defense forced six turnovers in total in a 24-17 win over Clemson.

Auburn (3-0, 1-0) was sloppy in their own right, giving the ball to Clemson four times. But the SEC Tiger defense was able to contain their nickname counterpart from the ACC, ensuring a 17th straight win for the defending national champs.

Clemson (2-1, 0-0) had prided themselves on ball protection heading into the game, only turning over the ball once in their two wins to start the year. But Auburn's defense forced Boyd to panic, as he threw four picks, fumbled once, and only completed 31% of his passes on the day.

Barrett Trotter had drawn some derision from the Auburn faithful for struggling in his first two games as the replacement for 2010 Heisman winner Cam Newton, but the junior looked better in his first road start. While he threw two interceptions, he also completed 55% of his passes and had two TD passes to Emory Blake.

Auburn also had a great contribution from the rushing attack, once again having two players pass the century mark. Michael Dyer continued his Heisman candidacy with a 25 carry, 105 yard day, and Anthony Morgan appears to have found his place on the Tiger roster, adding 104 yards and a sparkling 61 yard cutback touchdown. Andre Ellington rushed for 79 yards for Clemson, who now take on ranked Florida State and Virginia Tech in consecutive weeks.

Auburn never trailed in this game, although Clemson did have a chance to take the lead in the 4th quarter, with a 1st and 10 on the Auburn 27, down 14-10. But Boyd threw his third interception of the afternoon to T'Sharvan Bell, and Auburn followed with a 71 yard drive that was capped by the second Trotter to Blake touchdown connection of the game.

Auburn will take on Florida Atlantic next week before starting a hellacious four week stretch that includes trips to Columbia, Fayetteville and Baton Rouge with a home game against Florida squeezed in.
