Something has to give Georgia Tech is #1 in rushing yards, Maryland is #4 in rushing yards allowed. Can Maryland's defense stop Georgia Tech's rushing attack led by the nation's #2 rusher Orwin Smith who has 631 yards for a 6.0 average? Or will Danny O'Brien lead the Terrapins against the #41 pass defense? If Maryland gets up by a few TDs early expect them to cruise to victory.
The Maryland Terrapins had many chances to win the game. If you were told that they would have the ball on the 12 yard line with a 1:50 to go in the game with Danny O達rien behind center all you would be thinking was here comes a touchdown can our defense get a stop afterwards. Not to mention that the NCAA痴 #2 rusher Orwin Smith was held to only 2 yards. Not so today. O達rien was intercepted in the end-zone looking for favorite target Kevin Dorsey. When Georgia Tech got the ball back they rushed 3 times for a first down and finished up the game in the victory formation. If you池e wondering how it even got to this point here痴 the rest of the game.
On the very first drive of the game Danny O達rien completed his first three passes for 24 yards but was then picked off trying to force the ball into a tight window. Georgia Tech took over and the offensive whirlwind that is the Yellow Jackets offense took over after rushing for 13 yards, 16 by the fullback, Tevin Washington threw a 17 yard pass to get another first down. They drove the ball further by running and ended up kicking a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. On the ensuing Maryland possession Danny O達rien completed 6 out of 7 passes and finally hit Kevin Dorsey for a 15 yard touchdown.
Georgia Tech once again took to their potent running game and after gains and losses with the Terrapin defense caught off guard Washington went to Tyler Melton for a 20 yard gain and then an 8 yard TD pass. The teams then traded field goals to end the half with Tech up 13-10.
Georgia Tech was moving the ball again rushing and then a surprise pass for a big gain before Maryland corner-back Trenton Hughes came up with a big interception, this would prove costly however for the Terps because he had to leave the game with a mild concussion after being hit hard while returning the ball. O達rien got to work quickly driving the ball 41 yards in three plays and hitting Ronnie Tyler for a 12 yard touchdown. Tevin Washington got the ball back and what was probably the best throw he痴 ever made beat back-up cornerback Dexter McDougle and hit Stephen Hill for a 70 yard strike to retake the lead 20-17. After a fumble by Danny O達rien, Tech once again hit a 31 yard field goal to lengthen the lead 23-17.
On the very first play of the fourth quarter O達rien found Quintin McCree for a 21 yard touchdown to take the lead 24-23. Georgia Tech then put together a methodical run the clock down, run the ball all over the Terps drive which saw Roddy Jones score on a 10 yard pitch play to make the lead 29-24. The Yellow Jackets then attempted a 2 point conversion which failed. Maryland got the ball back, Danny O達rien and Davin Meggett led them down the field on what many were sure would be a game-winning drive but not so O達rien is picked off by Jemea Thomas in the end-zone to seal the game for the Yellow Jackets.
Coach Lambright's Thoughts "Well we obviously made mistakes that cost us the game, I'm going to take full responsibility for that, my coaching staff and I did not do a good enough job getting our guys ready to go."
"Hopefully next week against Clemson we'll right the ship and keep this season going in a positive direction."

Without starting quarterback Tajh Boyd there is no way that Clemson will be able to keep up with the high-scoring Terrapins. Danny O'Brien looks to bounce back and get into form and cut down on the interceptions, one which costs Maryland a chance at a win.
