Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

First weekend of October done

Not all the Top 25 action this weekend was as one sided as #2 Missouri's 52-point rout of long time rival Oklahoma. Ohio State, Kansas, and Boise State also won, which leaves the top 4 the same as last week, although in a slightly different order.

There are still 10 undefeated teams. In addition to the ranked teams there are Air Force and Nevada from the MWC, and Bowling Green from the MWC.

The new Top 25 rankings give us a #2 vs #5 matchup this weekend as Missouri takes on the undefeated Cowboys from Oklahoma State.

Game Notes
Oklahoma State looks to be the best team in the Big XII South this year, although Texas (4-1) also looks like a decent squad.

Missouri has dominated this series recently, and looks to continue. Oklahoma State and Missouri bring in great passing attacks, and both struggle against the pass defensively also. A 45-42 game is not out of the question, and one must wonder how long Missouri can keep this winning streak up against Big XII foes not named Kansas.

Projection: Missouri 45
Oklahoma State 35

Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

Is the Big XII truly strong? Arkansas looks to prove it..

Arkansas is currently 2-4 overall, with all 4 losses in conference play. They play #12 Auburn (3-1) this weekend, at Auburn. If Arkansas can overcome Auburn they will have taken down two of the SEC's powerhouses, and definitely cement in people's minds that the SEC is below the Big XII in capability this season.
With Missouri taking down SEC front runner LSU, and Arkansas taking down Alabama, if Arkansas holds down Auburn then there is no argument in fragile minds and the minds of the computers that the Big XII is heads and shoulders above the SEC.

Missouri Tigers rout Cowboys 62-16

Missouri has played 3 top 5 teams this year. Well at the time top 5, but all top 10 currently. They beat then #4 (#7) LSU 36-3, #4 (#8) Wisconsin 64-18, and now #5 Oklahoma State also went down.

The game started off promising, as Oklahoma State's defense came to play, preventing D. Steele from gaining anything on the ground which allowed the Cowboys to key in on the pass.

With Missouri ahead 3-0, J. Walsh was sacked on a 3rd and 10, which set up 4th and 17, and also put Walsh out of the game for a few moments. Missouri keyed in on the good field position and A. Harrell caught a 5 yard pass from N. Bailey to make it 10-0.

D. Steele ran it in to make it 17-0 early in the second quarter, but J. Walsh scrambled 1 yard to make it a 17-7 game. The touchdown was in doubt, as Walsh fumbled before he broke the endzone plane, but the call of the field stood and Oklahoma State broke the shutout just like Oklahoma did last week, very questionably.

Missouri fans are questioning the referees lately

Missouri poured it on after the questionable call, putting Walsh out until the half and opening up a 31-7 lead. They traded field goals in the third quarter, and the fourth quarter started with the Tigers up 34-10, a good lead but an Oklahoma State comeback seemed possible.

Bentley or Walsh, didn't matter. The Tigers were all over them all day

Missouri ran off 28 straight points in the fourth quarter, turning a 34-16 game into a 62-16 beatdown.

Caldwell collected his 1st career interception in the fourth quarter

Missouri POTG: N. Bailey 34 of 47 for 416 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
D. Steele 39 carries for 236 yards and 4 TD
M. Wilson had 9 tackles and 1 sack
T. Leach had 8 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 FF
J. George had 6 tackles, 6 solo, 1 FF, and 1 interception

8 Top 25 teams upset by unranked teams

#2 Missouri handling #5 Oklahoma State 62-16 was a big surprise, but not the biggest this weekend.

#19 Oregon seemed on their way to a 6-6 season, but took care of #6 Utah.

Air Force took #4 Boise State out of national title contention with a 45-39 come from behind hail mary victory.

The biggest upset? Arkansas (2-4) not only upset, but they destroyed #10 Auburn (3-2) by over twenty points. Obviously Arkansas is a great team, and their 2-4 record suggests the Big XII is one tough conference.

Game Notes
Texas is back baby!
The Longhorns, at 5-1, bring in an amazingly balanced offense.
Missouri also brings in a balanced offense, and just killed Oklahoma State 62-16. Texas is a pass second offense this year, but Missouri is killer against the run and so so against the pass. Although last week they absolutely stopped the pass against Oklahoma State.

Missouri's D. Steele and N. Bailey will run the offense just fine. Look for DE's Ray and Leach to create pressure on Texas's offensive line and for the Tigers to sack redshirt freshman G. Herring a few times.

Junior's Nick Robertson and Jeremy Ratliff have split rushing duties for the Longhorns all year. Robertson has 534 yards and 7 TD's while Ratliff has 685 yards and 7 TDs.

Prediction: Texas 45, Missouri 42

Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

Yeah it's crazy, the first couple drives are tough stops and then I sack the QB a time or two and it's over.

MTSU is such a good team, there is a glitch or something, they are still just a 2*, but they are loaded. They have 4 WR's with 85+ catch ratings, and 90+ speed. I can't believe how good they are, and am lucky my team has recruitied some offensive beasts like D. Steele & N. Bailey.
