Re: The New Show On Turf - St. Louis Rams Franchise (Madden 12)
Giants win on last-second touchdown; Spagnuolo irate that no review was held
Mike Sando ESPN.com Monday night’s game between the Giants and the Rams certainly lived up to it’s Monday Night Football expectations, with a great game that wasn’t decided until a last second touchdown by Giants receiver Michael Clayton. Unless of course, you’re Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo. “They should have reviewed that catch,” he said in a postgame interview. “They should have reviewed it, cause he wasn’t inbounds. It was a hell of a catch, it was just on the sideline of the endzone.” The refs went with the call on the field, and the official booth said no review was necessary, but that has been questioned ever since, as after watching the video of the play, many have speculated that the receiver Clayton indeed did not get both of his feet down in bounds before hitting out of the endzone. It did not seem obvious that Clayton had both feet down in the endzone before touching the white line. Rams safety James Butler jumped up after the play yelling no catch and got into the face of the line judge. No word on whether the NFL will fine Butler. “I’m not making excuses,” Spagunolo said afterward. “We played a hell of a game, and we shouldn’t have allowed that catch to even happen. But after that catch, you’ve got James [Butler] jumping up and yelling ‘No catch! No catch!’ and the official getting in his face about it, and I yelled at the official and grabbed the challenge flag, and he said that the booth said it didn’t need to be reviewed. A questionable catch in the end zone as the last seconds of play expire? I can’t see how you don’t review that play.” The coach didn’t suspect foul play, but did have this to say before he left: “I wonder if the tables were turned, and we had made a touchdown catch like that in their endzone, if they would have been so quick to say ‘It’s ok. No review.’” Rams players after the game weren’t quite as livid as their coach. “We got beat,” said Steven Jackson. “That’s all there is to it.” “They put up a great fight, we couldn’t get to Eli all day,” said defensive end Chris Long. “I have to do a better job and our whole defense needs to get better at getting after the quarterback, then we can keep [Clayton’s endzone catch] from happening.” The fact remains, however, that the Rams have more to work on coming off of an impressive win against Philadelphia. The defense struggled to contain Eli Manning, who threw for over 300 yards, while Rams' quarterback Sam Bradford struggled in the hostile Meadowlands environment. Even though the Rams controlled the clock, they couldn't capitalize when they had the ball. The Rams have not been successful on the road as of late, after going 0-8 away from the dome last year, and Monday night's game extends their road losing streak. Quarterback Sam Bradford offered up no excuses for his poor outing (16 of 29 for 186 yards and 2 INTs): “I have to make better decisions out there and not get rattled. I need to be better and to slow down a bit, not rush my throws on the field.” “We have to get ready for Baltimore next week,” Bradford said. “Things don’t get any easier for us, but you’ve got to lick your wounds and get up and get to the next game.”

Coughlin Comments on Catch Controversy
Mike Sando Sept 21st, 2011 ESPN.com “I saw the replay. It looked like a catch to me. I understand Spags being upset after the game, his guys played well, it was a good game. But he lost, and I expected him to take it better than this. Get over it.” When questioned about going for the touchdown with only 5 seconds left in the game, despite having a chance at a field goal, Coughlin said, “I know that the Rams kicker [Josh Brown] made a couple of really long field goals when he had the wind at his back. We didn’t, in that situation. The wind was strong, and I didn’t think it would give us a good chance at converting. So we went for it.” Coughlin then refused to answer any more questions about the catch incident, stating that “There’s no use crying over spilled milk.”

Re: The New Show On Turf - St. Louis Rams Franchise (Madden 12)
Week 3 – Sunday, September 26th – 1:00 PM Sunday Afternoon Matchup VS BAL - (1-1, 1-0 away) STL - (1-1, 1-0 home) Injury Report: BAL - Doubtful: RG Marshal Yanda, DE Cory Redding, RT Ryan Bartholomew; Out: QB Joe Flacco, SS Marcus Paschal STL - Out: DT Justin Bannan, DE C.J. Ah You, LB Zac Diles, CB Jerome Murphy Keys to the Game: BAL – Force the Rams to throw the ball STL – Force the Ravens to throw the ball Chris Berman – Now, we’ve got the Ravens headed to the Show-Me State to take on the St. Louis Rams. Both teams love to run the ball, both teams having issues throwing it, with young Sam Bradford on the Rams, and the Ravens losing Flacco to injury for a few more weeks, both teams are 1-1. On paper, the big difference would seem to be the Ravens’ defense, but the Rams are no slouches, and they’re looking to prove that their Week 1 win over the Eagles was no fluke. Guys, whaddya say? Coach Ditka – I think both of these teams are more even than people would think on paper. Today, I’m going home team. RAMS Keyshawn Johnson – Well, the Rams fans better hope that Jackson can find a way to run against that defense. I’m not convinced. RAVENS Cris Carter – The Ravens definitely have a better defense, but the Rams certainly have a better quarterback than whoever Baltimore is going to run out there today. I say Bradford comes back with a big game at home. RAMS Tom Jackson – Tell you what though. As long as the Ravens have names like Reed, Suggs, and Lewis on it, their defense is going to come to play. I think it’s a close one, but Baltimore pulls it out. RAVENS Chris Berman – They say that defense wins championships, and it’s still pretty clear to me who has the better defense here. But something’s pulling me towards the quarterback, and without Flacco, I think the Ravens might be more one-dimensional then the Rams today. Back home in St. Louis. Show me what you can do. RAMS

Re: The New Show On Turf - St. Louis Rams Franchise (Madden 12)
Rams live dangerously as Bradford thrives under pressure; Leads Rams to unbelievable comeback victory as time expires.
Mike Sando ESPN.com Last week, the Rams were on the wrong end of a last second touchdown throw. This week, they found themselves on the winning side of it. In the first half, Baltimore dominated the game, but right after going up 24-10, the Rams started coming back. By the fourth quarter, the Rams had tied the game up at 24-24, but with 1:05 left in the game, Baltimore kicked a field goal to go up 27-24. Sam Bradford found himself with less than a minute to play, no time outs, and 75 yards to go. After throwing two incompletions, Bradford got a first down reception by tight end Lance Kendricks, who was able to get out of bounds. He was later able to complete another big gain to wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker, which got them into Baltimore territory around the 33. But the clock was still winding down, and Bradford was barely able to get everybody to the line. There was confusion along the Rams' bench, and Coach Spagunolo was trying to get Bradford to spike the ball. Sam, on the other hand, had been shouting to his players the audible, and quickly hiked the ball. The Ravens defenders were caught off guard just enough that Bradford was able to hit receiver Brandon Gibson in stride over the middle of the field for his second touchdown grab of the afternoon, one that put the Rams over the top for the win. “It was just a truly outstanding play, an outstanding throw by Sam [Bradford] and an outstanding catch by Gibby [Brandon Gibson],” said Coach Spags after the game, as he drank from a large glass of milk he brought in with him. “Just an outstanding play.” It was more than just one outstanding play, however. It was a truly dominant performance by the Rams QB Sam Bradford, as he went 22 for 34 for over 300 yards and 4 TDs to lead his Rams to victory. The game began quietly enough, as field goals were exchanged between the Ravens and Rams. But in the second quarter the offenses both came alive, as Ray Rice suddenly found holes in the Rams defense, exploiting them for runs of 32 and 37 yards on the same drive, the latter of which was the Raven’s first touchdown of the quarter. Rice feasted on the Rams defense, as he had over 130 yards in the first half, and if he had not been injured in the third quarter, it’s likely that the game would have gone differently. While you never hope for a player’s injury, it’s clear that after Rice went out, the Ravens offense sputtered and provided an opening for the Rams to come back. And in a moment where his team needed him, Bradford rose to the occasion. He certainly wasn’t perfect, and took a few too many sacks that cost his team position, but while Steven Jackson struggled to run against the Ravens’ stout front seven, Bradford continued to will his team back into the game. “I remember we were coming out onto the field after just going 3 and out,” said wide receiver Donnie Avery, who overcame a few dropped balls in the first half to pull in over 100 yards receiving and a TD on the day, “and [the Ravens] just scored, and we’re down 14 points and nothing seemed to go right. And Sam just said ‘Alright, come on. Let’s go do this, one play at a time.’ He wouldn’t let us quit, wouldn’t let us get down, and so we just went right at them.” When asked about his long 45-yard touchdown catch in the back of the endzone: “I broke away from the corner, and I caught Sam’s eye, and he lets this perfect spiral go, and all I can think is ‘I better f*$#ing catch this one.’ Get into the endzone, cradle it into my gut, drag my feet, it was a great throw, and one I’m glad I got to reel in.” “I just remember it was about halfway through the third, and we were down [14 points], and everyone was just looking kind of stunned,” said quarterback Sam Bradford after the game. “So we got into the huddle, and I just looked at them and said something like, ‘We can beat these guys. Now let’s go and do it.’ That first half was kind of rough for us, but in the second half, we really started to put it together. Donnie [Avery] and [Brandon] Gibson, and Danny [Amendola] and Mike [Sims-Walker], and Lance – he made some great catches. All of them did. Those first couple of games we were still kind of cautious with passing, but we really started turning it loose, got into a great rhythm out there. And S-Jax [Steven Jackson] was fighting all day for us, kept their defense honest, helped us to make the plays we did.” When asked about whether he thinks he proved his doubters wrong, he said, “There will always be people who doubt, and I can always improve. I can make better decisions, and I can hold onto the ball better [referencing a fumble he had in the 2nd quarter]. My focus is on helping this team to win games, and whatever I can do to help that, I want to do it.” “He’s a natural leader,” said Spagnuolo after the game, “On the field, in the locker room, the stuff that you guys don’t see. He’s young but I know he commands the respect of the rest of the guys, and of us on the staff. I think we knew he could play a game like this, but we’re still glad to see him actually do it.” It was not all good news for the Rams, as guard Harvey Dahl broke his collarbone and will miss the next 9 weeks, as will running back Ray Rice. Now having to face life without his star quarterback and running back, coach John Harbaugh said after the game, “We’re just going to have to regroup and move onto the next game. You can’t replace a guy like Ray, but this is still a good football team, and we’re going to fight hard to win.”
Ram’blings: -WR Brandon Gibson was player of the game with 4 catches for 79 yards and 2 TDs. -RG Harvey Dahl will miss 8 weeks with a broken collarbone.
