Preseason Report

Week 1: Packers 31 Browns 27
Week 2: Browns 23 Lions 6
Week 3: Eagles 31 Browns 10
Week 4: Bears 47 Browns 13

Notable Standouts

Peyton Hillis: 44 carries, 207 yards, 4.7 avg, 1 TD
Josh Cribbs: 14 catches, 106 yards, 2 TDs
Quinton Spears: 26 total tackles, 9 assisted

Notable Underachievers

Colt McCoy: 73.6 rating, 20 for 41, 224 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs
Montario Hardesty: 45 carries, 118 yards, 2.6 avg, 0 TDs
Carlton Mitchell: 1 catch, 8 yards, 0 TDs

Undrafted LT Dextrell Benion makes the team

After Eric Steinbach was lost for the season, the Browns tried out many different undrafted free agents to see if one could make an impression. With Jason Pinkston being moved to LG to help fill in for Steinbach, the backup tackle spot was there for the taking.

Undrafted LT Dextrell Benion, from Clemson, went out and took the backup LT spot with a very good training camp and preseason where he gave up 0 sacks and had some nice blocks with the second team offense.

"I feel like I really showed just how much potential I really have," said Benion. "I'm grateful for the Browns giving me a shot and I'll do my best to make the most of it."

Shane Vereen brought in after Hardesty goes down

After already losing backup RB Brandon Jackson for the season, the news on Monday that Montario Hardesty is out for three weeks with a dislocated ankle really is a big problem. The only current backup RB on the team is rookie Armond Smith.

Knowing that Hillis and Smith won't be enough for the first couple weeks, the Browns reached a one-year unguaranteed contract worth 310k with recently cut rookie Shane Vereen. Vereen was a second round pick but had a terrible training camp where he showed up out of shape.

"We know about the problems surrounding Vereen", said Team President Mike Holmgren. "But he has a lot of talent and is worth taking a chance on right now."

Week one the Cincinnati Bengals come to town as they prepare to move on from the Carson Palmer era Sunday, September 11th @ 1:00 PM EST.

Re: In Colt We Trust: A Cleveland Browns Franchise (Madden 12)

Season Goals, Preview

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Browns finished their final season under Eric Mangini at 5-11. The team fought hard in some games and almost won at least a few mroe games, but they just couldn't finish.

After hiring former Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur to lead the team, the team made some big moves in the draft to pick up more assets while picking up guys who can help contribute now and hopefully more in the future. Colt McCoy looks to be the franchise QB - something the Browns have been looking for for over a decade since coming back.

"Oh we definitely believe in Colt," said Shurmur. "The keys to the offense are in his hands now. He worked out with Brett Favre over the summer and seems to have really improved his game. I am just as excited as anybody to see how his season goes."

Once the long lockout finally ended, the Browns locked up Pro Bowl LT Joe Thomas to a 7-year deal worth $84 million to make sure Colt's blind side is always protected. Young and emerging TE Evan Moore was signed to a 3-year deal worh $9 million to keep one of Colt's favorite targets in town and happy.

The next guy the team is trying to work out a deal with is Peyton Hillis. The two sides are reportedly close to an agreement and could have it in ink by Week 5. Once that is done, the offense will have basically all of its main parts locked up for a few years.

"Keeping our home grown guys here has been our #1 priority," said Mike Homgren. "We believe in all of our guys and when they show they can produce we will reward them."

The Browns luckily dodge both the Ravens and Steelers until after Week 12, so if they can have a great start they can control their own destiny when it comes to making the playoffs. After the team did win 5 games last year, a goal is to at least split the season at 8-8 and try to split the games against Baltimore and Pittsburgh if possible.

The Browns are now a much different team when it comes to philosophy and hopefully all of the change are for the best. If not, it could be another long decade for the city of Cleveland.

Team Goals

-Win 8 games
-Have Colt McCoy show significant improvement
-Help Peyton Hillis make the Pro Bowl
-Sign Hillis to a long-term deal
-Make a deal for a veteran WR if possible

What to Watch for v. the Bengals

-A.J. Green is a very exciting rookie WR who will be a tough test for Joe Haden. This is a chance to prove why he is a top CB.
-The strength of the Bengals defense is their run defense. Will the early season Hillis or the beat up end of season Hillis show up?
-Mohammed Massauoi had a mediocre sophomore season but if he can perform well against Leon Hall it can only help his confidence level.
-Colt McCoy struggled with INTs in the last two games of his rookie season. Can he avoid those silly rookie mistakes?
